I'm using Audacity 2.0.6; it has a 'preview' button for each of the effects, and a multi-level 'Undo' (not sure how many...). Reaper is not designed to do the same task. If one wants a DAW, I'd recommend Reaper. If one only wants to edit audio, I'd recommend Audacity. There's no downside to trying both, and choosing on the perceived merits of each.
Now at version 2.1.0, with real time preview and VST support, I believe. http://audacityteam.org I am not an Audacity user, but it seems it will do the job for the OP. .

Film Composer James Horner was killed in an accident yesterday. Fitting to put one of his themes in this thread. http://youtu.be/9AN04imFDK8
Really enjoyable tunes to play especially as the composition/arrangements were by people such as John Barry, Michel LeGrand, and Lalo Schifrin and recorded by top session players. I miss those days, playing 5 nights a week plus Sunday lunchtimes, how times have changed!
Indeed they have changed. I very much remember those gig schedules. Plus throw in the Monday lunch times 'Lovely Jubbly club', or packing up as quick as you could and go and do a gig in a late night hostess club in the West End...lol..
Apparently her favourite line is "Get on with it!" in between songs.
That's not heckling, she is just giving good old fashion professional advice.

Is this of any use? or worth investigating? http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=381092 Only three reviews regarding the chipset, but all good. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Siig-NN-E20012-S2-SIIG-Firewire-PCI-E/dp/B000G6U8VY

This library is being sold at a silly price. You can download the free Kontakt player, so no need for a full Kontakt purchase. Just about every thing you need, if you want to get into Orchestral writing. (26 gig download). Plenty of articulations in the library, and the demos sound very versatile. One of my boys has gone for it, and is downloading at the moment. http://vstbuzz.com/deals/50-off-complete-orchestral-collection-by-peter-siedlaczek/?mc_cid=3e0dcc6f4e&mc_eid=f0d895808a

After watching some of that OP video, I am surprised all their hair hasn't fallen out, after a performance like that.
They make a lovely noise, at least when I'm not playing them
Lol..... Whenever I hear 'Noise' mentioned, it always reminds me of this quote. "The English may not like music, but they absolutely love the noise it makes" Sir Thomas Beecham.

I have always been in and out with OC's stuff. Some (a lot), I was right up there with, other material I was left dazed and confused. But no doubting, he was an outstanding talent. RIP

W8.1 user here. I just use the anti-virus that comes with W8 (Windows defender). When using my DAW, I just turn off (disable) my WiFi, turn off anti virus and firewall. If I need to update any music software Apps (rarely, and I wait to I need a bunch of stuff), I just turn it all on again (less than a minute to do). I have set windows updates to let me know when windows needs updating, and let me choose when and what to download (again this only happens when I am on-line). So when off-line, not much running in the background, other than essential windows stuff. I have read folks on here saying there is no need to turn it all off with Quadcore i7's. But I have VSL VE5 Pro running as a server, and it certainly all interfered with that.

Yes, very nice indeed. Rick Kemp on Bass (If I remember right) on that track, and also an Upright player on the album as well. I am sure someone will be along who knows for sure.

A lot of outstanding Musicians played in his bands, and he treated them very well. The late great Derek Watkins did a stint with the JL Orchestra. Starts with Flugel then tears it up on Trumpet towards the end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOKZ5zSDaAA

Well, I suppose if you come across a joiner who has hung over ten thousand doors, it might be of interest over at joinerschat.co.uk, regarding the best ten doors that he has 'ever hung'. -
No redeeming feature? String arrangement (Morse code motif at the turnaround, and the sweeping lines at the end are both glorious.
Agreed. The arranging is top notch. Lush string themes, subtle low horn lines. It's all there. I think it's a great tune. -
Have you tried any of their other freebies? http://vstbuzz.com/freebies/
Feroyn's Flute is great for Fantasy time passages. Not tried the others, but I will down load them, these things always come in handy at some point. Cheers for the link.

Some more freebies here. Solo Viola Lite. It's ok and very usable. http://northernscoring.com/viola.html And a lite version of the Friedlander Solo Violin (part of a free bundle with some great sounds). It's also worth checking out the other freebies on the Embertone site (they do some very expressive Instruments, the full paid versions are excellent value). http://embertone.com/instruments/arcane.php

Well, with mod wheel use for dynamics, and the key switching (upper keyboard), it is a very responsive patch when played in. Very playable indeed. The character is great, some noises in there as well (sounds like the bow hitting the body).

Do a batch re-save, and it will then find it every time. Same with any vendor patch that does not load up in the libraries tab. Also, if you save as a pre- set it will do a quick load without asking for a location. Or of course, just save as a quick load patch (after the initial folder find, it will always locate it). To batch re-save. On the top bar in Kontakt, click on - Files - scroll to the bottom and click on batch re-save, Point to where the folder is placed. That's it. It's the same for any patch that Kontakt asks for location.
