1. An interesting (although long) read here. Talking about (in places) "Everlasting Love" and the general MU position towards use and payment for session musicians back then. http://www.muhistory.com/?p=1089 Slightly off topic, but regarding Russ Stableford. His son turned up on a thread regarding "Everlasting Love" a while back. http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2006/07/the-love-affair-everlasting-love/ He also posted up a YouTube link of his dad playing on "The Muppet Show". Bass comes in at 01:22. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UVAAgcjIgFA
2.
I'm struggling with getting Youtube videos to embed for some reason.
Delete the 's' from "https" at the front end of the address (http).
3. Yep, great stuff. I also have the Live in Cannes CD (I presume the same one). I believe Dave Brubeck and Pat Metheny, among others, featured on the same gig. Great music and playing in the South of France. Don't get any better than that!....lol..
4. Hey Nikos, good stuff. Lovely smooth, tight sound.
5. To me the arrangement sounds scored out for the full studio Orchestra, I doubt musicians were making up there own parts. Keith Mansfield was the Arranger and MD/Conductor. At the time he was a very busy guy, writing music for TV and arranging and MD'ing for a few various artists at the time. He was known for his very precise scoring of arrangements. But as you say, Dunrockin, maybe not altogether improbable, well at least for the Rhythm section. A great tune and very well played by all. EDIT - Sorry, just read your post again. I was talking about the Love Affair version.
6. My entry for 16th note machine gunning. http://youtu.be/UrxRJ9HlfZk
7. Yep, I heard it all the first time around with these bands above mentioned, and indeed liked, and was into them. But I easily lose interest in them these days. Strangely enough, I will still listen regularly to Tower of Power, more than likely because I liked the tunes more, not to mention the superb brass and woodwind section writing. I think the guy in the OP video plays the track well, he is just jamming along and does a good job (IMO of course). Certainly heard a lot worse.
8. This is the version he is playing over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fRiwMHp8Tw
9.
Jewish wedding tunes. Mind numbingly tedious root fifthing.
Ha, Ha...yep. On the up side, the high society gigs do pay really well. The down side is getting a good busking dep, very few seem to know the tunes these days.
10. A true (soulful) Icon RIP
11.
but the pending arrival of Skol Jnr The Second (working title) may put the kibosh on that. We'll see.
Ah..good news on the incoming. Make sure you are at home on delivery date, you don't want the Stalk leaving it behind the back gate.....
12.
Just as I read it I heard the bin being collected and had to chase the guy to the wagon to retrieve it.
If it was a Banjo, you would have just retrieved the bin, I presume?
13. The driver has to be a complete dork. If you had signed for it personally, why did he feel the need to leave the package behind the side gate? Unless you said "Sling it over the gate mate" Complain.
14.
You Folks Sure is Real nice around these parts
There needs to be an emoticon for spitting out tobacco while wearing a stetson.

16. I know ABBA were well known for double tracking everything, but surely, even as a mark of respect, this is taking things a bit far?
17. Lovely (Acoustic) Piano playing from Bobby Sparks, very similar in style to David Benoit. I have this album and there are some very nice tracks on it, with some great playing from all involved.
18.
I don't know if that is the look of concentration of fear
Ha ha, The Buddy Rich 'West Side Story' is concentration for Bass ( I have played the charts). However, the Dave Grusin version/charts for 'West Side Story' is absolute fear!! Two BB gigs this weekend, I am sure some photos will turn up after the weekend.
19. Yep, great player with a nice relaxed groove about him. Very lyrical player. Written stuff for other people, as well as some soundtrack writing, very talented guy. RIP.
20. An excellent-useful site for Orchestrating tips. http://orchestrasounds.com/ 51 blogs so far - If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will find all the older posts and blogs.
21. 1972 - aged 15, very first paid gig for me (with an Irish Country band). My £4.00 wages were given to me in a little brown envelope. Dartford Social Club, a place in my heart. Actually, there were quite a few clubs in little old Dartford back then. WMC's, Conservative clubs, Irish clubs, all there with a selection of live music pubs in the area as well. You could go on month long tours around Dartford without playing the same sh*te hole twice...lol...
22. There is no Coda on Basschat threads, it's round and round 'till fade or train crash. Welcome and enjoy.
23. Nothing sloppy or untight here. Quincy Jones didn't use him for a bet, that's for sure. http://youtu.be/fXmmWBzS-_o I think with the early Brothers Johnson stuff he was a bit raw, but working with Quincy Jones certainly lifted his game.
