To me the arrangement sounds scored out for the full studio Orchestra, I doubt musicians were making up there own parts. Keith Mansfield was the Arranger and MD/Conductor. At the time he was a very busy guy, writing music for TV and arranging and MD'ing for a few various artists at the time. He was known for his very precise scoring of arrangements. But as you say, Dunrockin, maybe not altogether improbable, well at least for the Rhythm section. A great tune and very well played by all. EDIT - Sorry, just read your post again. Yep, I heard it all the first time around with these bands above mentioned, and indeed liked, and was into them. But I easily lose interest in them these days. Strangely enough, I will still listen regularly to Tower of Power, more than likely because I liked the tunes more, not to mention the superb brass and woodwind section writing. I think the guy in the OP video plays the track well, he is just jamming along and does a good job (IMO of course). Certainly heard a lot worse.

Lovely (Acoustic) Piano playing from Bobby Sparks, very similar in style to David Benoit. I have this album and there are some very nice tracks on it, with some great playing from all involved.

1972 - aged 15, very first paid gig for me (with an Irish Country band). My £4.00 wages were given to me in a little brown envelope. Dartford Social Club, a place in my heart. Actually, there were quite a few clubs in little old Dartford back then. WMC's, Conservative clubs, Irish clubs, all there with a selection of live music pubs in the area as well. You could go on month long tours around Dartford without playing the same sh*te hole twice...lol...

Yes the clip is doing damage. Although the demonstration outlines the whole concept of behind, in front and on it, the only part that actually swings is when the drums drop out at 03:16/17 and just leaves Bass and Guitar...lol...

Yep, he was great. Aside from the Brothers Johnson stuff, his contribution (Along with John Robinson) for Quincy Jones was outstanding. His very precise studio style and the tight in yer face sound was very hard to resist. Certainly didn't hold back and was a very forceful player.

I haven't seen the Jools Holland New Years Eve show, but I watched the trio on 'The One Show' last week and it was not very good at all (very loose and messy). Wilko was a guest for the chat section, and was good value for that.
