1. Interesting thread, nine pages about a music stand....lol.... For those who like to stay faithful to not using a stand, how about letting you hair down and have a party night of debauchery. Have a One-Night Stand.
  2. Great Percussion Library for Kontakt (14 gigs download). Very Cinematic sounding. It's a minimum $25.00 donation. 60% goes towards refurbished Instruments for school programmes. Links over at V.I Control Forum (A great forum resource for composing and recording). NI Komplete
Bought it. Mind blowing. And we'll cheaper than a bass. Great value. This and Reaper are definitely floating my boat.
Great deal ain't it? Shame it was just about the only thing NI didn't do 50% off on Black Friday. Or did they? Enjoy, it's a great deal and bundle regardless.
  5. If it helps... I have done several theatre show tours, always work visas. On one occasion, a musician applying for a visa was declined a work visa because he had previously been caught working on a tourist visa. (He had to be replaced before the tour started). You may well get away with it, but if caught, it will more than likely mess you up in the future for a visa. Something to seriously think about.
  6.
Stand of Hope and Glory (I'm on a roll now!)
Well, I am enjoying them... So Seashell.....take to the stage....take it away...And Stand and Deliver!!
  7. Funny thread......lol.... Get a cheapy from cash converters, like you said, no one is that bothered. I have done a couple. On one, an Amp was provided, the other, I just took a spare combo along, and if that got nicked (it didn't), I would have just claimed through my insurance. Not sure what the problem is really. On the other hand, the OP can always make a Lego one.

    Mac vs pc
Yes, iPads do come with Garageband. I'm considering Cubasis for iPad, as it offers multiple simultaneous input channels (depending on the interface).
If you want a really in depth set up for iPad. Cubasis has a lot more features than GarageBand. MIDI is much more advanced, and is proberly the nearest full featured App close to a Desktop DAW that you will get. Two interfaces worth considering (both with Midi in/out).... Focusrite iTrack/Dock. http://uk.focusrite.com/ios-audio-interfaces/itrack-dock# And the Alesis iDock. http://www.alesis.com/iodock Although with Cubasis and one of the above, you are looking at just under £200. But would be a very good solid mobile set up.
  9.
Uh oh! http://www.thomann.d...a_guitarron.htm
A friend of mine has one, he is going to let me have it for a couple of days next week. So I might/will be pulling the trigger on one from Thomann.

    Mac vs pc

Windows 8.1 or 7 for that matter are reliable and rock solid regarding DAW's. Any problems are usually down to Audio card/USB Audio/Midi units or stuff running in the back ground, or even pilot error. As said above a cheap Laptop will have a budget CPU and Motherboard, limited Ram etc, ok for general use but will struggle with (certainly) VSTI's and have a limited track count, plus FX will start to grind your Laptop down. Does it have to be a Laptop? if not, spend a little bit more on a Desktop, you will get a better spec machine for DAW use. Before a Mac vs PC bun fight starts out, I use both in my Studio running various DAW and Sampler related Apps networked together. They both do the job equally as good. PC's have come along away and get just as much love these days in the Professional Audio world.
  11. Yep, real Rock & Roll legend. Someone somewhere said he was born in 1943 and never ever went to bed. RIP
  12.
Ironically, I have seen stereo widening discussed in that way in a magazine... I thought you may have read it... And not burnt it!
Lol....More than likely. Nice looking website (Submix), very easy to navigate around and plenty to keep one interested. Well presented...Good luck with it all.
  13.
Not strictly true.
Sorry, posted from a mobile, no smiley or tongue in cheek. Just a joke.....lol... And of course what you said is right.
  14. A Stereo widening device is a waste of money and a gimmick. You can do it yourself. Just move your monitor speakers an extra foot apart, job done.
  15. I really like "Imagine" by Randy Crawford & the Yellow Jackets. They made it their own and didn't crawl all over the original John Lennon version. http://youtu.be/bJViwpo0KlQ
  16.
Thankfully, none of the above are in our set..
So what's in your set then? When I'm cleaning Windows and Leaning on a Lamp post ? Only Kidding.

    NI Komplete

Funkle, although I haven't got any of the Komplete series 8/9/10 etc, I do have some of the modules, plus Kontakt 5 obviously. They are excellent, and do remember you also get 45 gigs of sounds with the Kontakt sampler. These cover everything from Jazz through to Orchestral and everything in between, World Ethnic, Pop etc. So with the library and all those extra modules and FX, It really is a good deal, outstanding in fact. If you have the budget, I would recommend that you go for it. You will not be disappointed.
  18. I knew that Lieber & Stoller wrote a lot of hits, but just been to Wiki and there are a few there I didn't realise were written by them, or at least collaborations.
  19.
http://youtu.be/CpANME0IS0o
Ah...yer, that's the one....lol....
  20. No, Dion's version of Ruby Baby wasn't the original, but it was the most known. Not sure who recorded the original, although I do remember Bobby Darin doing a version and before that, someone released a version in the 50's.
  21.
If your gonna cover a song make it your own , fantastic arrangement this compared to Dion's version Donald at his best
Agreed. In fact it's a great album all round. Terrific playing from everyone involved, with some really top arranging and lovely harmony structure.
  22. I wouldn't say better, but a cover I like is by Chaka Khan doing 'We Can Work It Out'. Great Intro. Terrific Bass Synth from Greg Phillinganes. http://youtu.be/lfa7NjQx5fk
  23.
Sorry I'm very tempted by a Session Horns + Session Strings combo, which probably suits my needs more than Miroslav (as discussed elsewhere...) I did wonder about the Vienna sounds though... it's not immediately apparent to me which instruments are included with the full Kontakt player....
You can download the full Instrument list here. http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/samplers/kontakt-5/library/ If you buy the combo you mentioned, you only get the Kontakt 5 player, which can be limited when buying 3rd party vendor libraries. (there are quite a lot of freebies out there as well, but only work with the full Kontakt version). And there are lots and lots of excellent 3rd party librariesabout at very reasonable prices. Personally I would go for the full Kontakt sampler, the supplied library alone is worth it, and of course bundled in is a VSL collection. Good hunting Ras.
  24.
...and Native Instruments: http://www.native-in.../special-offer/
Oh dear, I wished I hadn't seen that. Another Debit card bashing coming up..... For anyone who ain't got Kontakt 5 and is considering it, this is a no brainer, I haven't ever seen it as cheap as that. Just under £170 with over 40 gig of great sounds in the library, including about nine gigs of the VSL Orchestral sounds.
