1.
I recently got a pair of PreSonus Eris E5s (£109 each), and I'm very pleased with them. I compared them with the Yamahas in the same price bracket and I thought the Yammies were harsh.
Just got a pair of these for my lad (next size up E4.5, extra £30.00 each speaker), We had a chance to compare with a pair of Equator D5's, and both sounded great (excellent), and to be honest very similar, My lad thought the PreSonus just had a slightly tighter bottom end. Both brands are in an affordable price range and well worth checking out. 2.
its worth it for the cost if nothing else!
There is that...lol.... As well as standing in the back garden in the rain and snow.
 3. Another great musician gone. Terrific musician/keys/composer. Played on so much great stuff. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-29197456 RIP http://youtu.be/j8PnDRAxI4A
 4. Yep, I use the palm mute version ( although not using the fingers as well). I tend to play the technique back towards the bridge so as to get a bit more clarity & bite, and also for the very quick decay, rather than a thud. Round wounds for me. Marcus Miller and Anthony Jackson are excellent with that style.
 5.
Wow, what a load of non-funk sh*te has been posted
Well.......OP did say Brit Funk......lol... It was a term that always baffled me.
 6.
Small world ,I remember .you played in theatres twas a lovely bass .but me and 5's.I parted it in the Bass Center when they had a shop in Brum..Essex boy now then
Yep, Essex for the time being. I went to Japan for a show just after that meet, I picked up another Sady, the 'Tokyo' version and still have it. Good luck with the sale, and happy birthday when it arrives.....
 7.
Yes I did /Bought it from a guy in Dartford.
Ha ha.....me....... Just out side Dartford, new estate near the river, you came to my house to collect.... What happened to it?
 8. Hi Richard....Lovely Bass.... Did you ever own the green 5 stg Sadowsky a few years back that was knocking around?
 9. Are you a light player by nature (you mentioned a 30 year problem)? Is turning up out of the question? Just asking, because back pup playing usually punches through quite easily, and Nuances and little subtle articulations should shine out. Someone above mentioned tipping the 2x10 on it's side (when stacked). I am 6'3" and I usually do that if struggling to hear myself when on a standing gig.
 10.
Absolutely, I'm a simple soul though and I need rules, boundaries as it were. Once the rules are established them there's always room for a little chaos but if chaos is the stepping stone then brimstone is surely the journeys end.
Lol......Could be some lyrics for one of your tunes there.
 11.
Strung through body, epoxy preamp with tantalum caps rather than electrolytic, slab body, larger pickup magnets and a dollop of 70s magic
Ah...So quite a difference, although I had to Google 'tantalum caps' and 'electrolytic'...lol... which in turn led me to the EBMM forum....ha ha..quite a place.
 12. I have a 78 Stingray, had it for years but don't use it that much. But when I do take it out, I have no problem with it 'sitting in the mix'. Everything full up (Bass/Treble and Volume). I tend to have a high action, and it seems to have a rich throaty tone. Not really a tech freak, so I would like to know why my MM sounds quite different to the EB MM two band.
 13.
Do people simply wade in with obscure choices on the hope that no one else knows their choice.
Apart from that Solo album by the Scandinavian Swedish Chef mentioned earlier, there will always be 'someone' who knows the album offered up. Some might take weeks, but we will get there in the end. Part of the fun.....innit bruv.
 14. I think you are talking about punters, certainly most musicians I was working with wouldn't have classed the above as Jazz. Maybe, Groove, Funk Jazz, Jazz Funk, Fusion etc, and even the dreaded 'Smooth Jazz' term was starting to creep in. Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Grover Washington etc top of the list with that. All (most) of the above (and many others of course) had some kind of Jazz back ground. I was certainly scrambling up to Ronnies when those artists were turning up. It was interesting times with top players performing.
 15.
"Migration" by Dave Grusin
Take it away Bert!! I am out of this madness.
 16.
On the nose. Take it away.
Off we go then........ 1. Punta Del Soul 2. Southwest Passage 3. First - Time Love 4. Western Women 5. Dancing in the Township 6. Old Bones 7. In the Middle of the Night 8. T.K.O. 9. Polina
 17.
Here's an easier one, more bass-centric this time. 1. *title track* 2. Back in the Beginning 3. Beard in the Letterbox 4. The Drowning Dream 5. The Sad Velvet Breath of Summer and Winter 6. Saday, Maday 7. Liver and Lungs 8. Bones of Mud
Bestial Cluster - Mick Karn Bones of Mud and Velvet Breath, great tracks
 18. Leaning more towards Jazz, but 'Morrissey-Mullen Band' were big on the pub scene, along with 'Paz' who were more Latin based. Heard them both play many times, always with a great selection of players. http://youtu.be/ahZXC8loOfA http://youtu.be/rLR-TrSGUF4
 19.
Yes, one of the best and really active on the London scene back then. Early 70s Gonzalez (before they went 'disco') where a great live band which i was fortunate to see many times.
Yep, and also a bit of a team with drummer Glen Le Flur for a while. Remember seeing the early Gonzalez a couple of times as well.
 20. Keys/Piano have always been my go to for transcribing, just found it opened up my ears, and was easier for picking out stuff. I have been playing as long as I have been Bass, just went hand in hand for me. BB5, If you can grab the dots for "On Golden Pond", Dave Grusin, do so. It's an art in melody, feel and emotion. It can be a bit of a handful, but with some work brings a real smile to your face. You have to make your own bird noises. http://youtu.be/Qml75qpmpSs
 21. Delisle Harper back in the 70's was a great player. Olympic Runners, Gonzalez and Freddie King plus a lot of session work. Still knocking around I believe. http://www.allmusic.com/artist/delisle-harper-mn0000052841/credits
 22.
They always turn out the same The last similar thread was about a month ago.
Yep, Round & Round with NO Coda.
 23.
Thanks for this Garry. Even more tempting goodies for my iPad.
Yep, tell me about it... Just downloaded Cubasis today. It's great, you can transfer Cubasis files over to a Cubase. When does it ever end?
 24. Yep, very sad. Good player. Isn't that second Bass player to die who played in the CR band?
 25. For those interested, a good 10 part series on all things recording related with the iPad. Enjoy. http://www.musicappblog.com/category/ipad-recording-studio-series/
