lowdown

Are you a light player by nature (you mentioned a 30 year problem)? Is turning up out of the question? Just asking, because back pup playing usually punches through quite easily, and Nuances and little subtle articulations should shine out. Someone above mentioned tipping the 2x10 on it's side (when stacked). I am 6'3" and I usually do that if struggling to hear myself when on a standing gig.

I have a 78 Stingray, had it for years but don't use it that much. But when I do take it out, I have no problem with it 'sitting in the mix'. Everything full up (Bass/Treble and Volume). I tend to have a high action, and it seems to have a rich throaty tone. Not really a tech freak, so I would like to know why my MM sounds quite different to the EB MM two band.

I think you are talking about punters, certainly most musicians I was working with wouldn't have classed the above as Jazz. Maybe, Groove, Funk Jazz, Jazz Funk, Fusion etc, and even the dreaded 'Smooth Jazz' term was starting to creep in. Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Grover Washington etc top of the list with that. All (most) of the above (and many others of course) had some kind of Jazz back ground. I was certainly scrambling up to Ronnies when those artists were turning up. It was interesting times with top players performing.

Keys/Piano have always been my go to for transcribing, just found it opened up my ears, and was easier for picking out stuff. I have been playing as long as I have been Bass, just went hand in hand for me. BB5, If you can grab the dots for "On Golden Pond", Dave Grusin, do so. It's an art in melody, feel and emotion. Great stuff Skol and well done mate. Very well put together. Interesting listen yesterday, and some good ideas. I was truly stuck between Bilbo and Skol. My usual criteria for voting went out the window this month, (Connection of music and picture). Bilbo just got my vote in the end, I liked the motifs/themes. (I'm kinda old skool/old git in that respect). Top job everyone.

Kate Bush was always doing something different, part (A lot) of the appeal for me. A very creative musician with good ideas always looking for something fresh, and I am glad that 30 odd years later she still operates in the same way.
