Some of the talk from this thread seems to be about 'making it', 'the dream'. Full time Musicians (mostly these days) make the bulk of their earnings from Professional pit/show west end/touring work (You can always dep it out to live your dream). Add on top of that, teaching (if you are good at it), any depping on other functions/gigs/cruise/acts etc, Sessions (they are still out there), media music work/library/production companies, Orchestrating, transcribing for midi file companies, copying (Sibelius/Finale etc) for show companies And school Orchestra/band parts. Music tech teaching/assisting..the list goes on and on. A lot of this of would need sight reading skills, good knowledge of theory, good ears etc, But that's why successful working musicians work, they have these skills (and contacts of course). You need to think out of the box, the work is there for freelancers, Bottom line, it can be hard work, but can/does have good financial rewards. Most of the people I know and work with/for have mortgages or houses paid for, Family's, holidays and don't live on Pot Noodles or eat their pets. Just my view from another corner. Carry on.

Just listened again (after a few months). Plenty of dynamics there, chorus and verse have light and shade. Arrangement has twist and turns. Great delivery from the players, who are right on it and in control. Busy? maybe....(for me it's great). But that's their style, and they are good at it. How much theory they know, or where they studied has feck all to do with it, There are influences from thirty years of music in the playing, Clearly they all have a good set of ears, they listen to each other, They bounce of each other - And seem to really enjoy it and are having fun. I really appreciate their energy and groove. My take on it - Does it for me.

Good to know your key sigs, even if you don't sight read. If on a busking gig or Jazz gig, it's not uncommon for a band leader to Turn around and hold up three fingers (A) or three fingers down (Eb) etc for key reference. On the other hand, If you are a m***er at busking and find yourself on a dep gig And are having a nightmare, and the band leader holds up two fingers (D) Or thumb and first finger in the shape of (C) he might be suggesting something else.

No experience with the Hollywood library, but from what I have heard, it does sound convincing. I went for Symphobia 1 and Symphobia 2 (there was a big discount a couple of years back). This particular library is great for the big Symphonic/Cinematic sound. Legato is also very well catered for. There is also Plenty of very useful keystroke articulations, and some very nice section layerings. Plus a selection of bonus material, like clusters, risers, rips, big hits and extended slurs etc. However I have just started investing in The Spitfire Audio libraries, mixing and matching sections. Well worth checking out and seems to be popping up on a lot of TV drama/games and small film. The sounds are more intimate than the other major libraries (although they have now released Mural, which is Aimed at more Symphonic textures). Check out their website for demo scores (impressive). If you want to play that particular piece in the same register as the Cello, you would have to play your Bass part up an Octave. For chart reading purposes, The Cello sounds as written, Bass sounds an octave lower Than written. I think that's what you are saying.
