1. What's wrong with Band in the Box for Mac ?
2.
Mmm... Pot Noodle.
Is that Cambodian Fret wa#"ing ?
3. The only way I would have done that, was If there was absolutely no dep available. So top marks mate.
4. Some of the talk from this thread seems to be about 'making it', 'the dream'. Full time Musicians (mostly these days) make the bulk of their earnings from Professional pit/show west end/touring work (You can always dep it out to live your dream). Add on top of that, teaching (if you are good at it), any depping on other functions/gigs/cruise/acts etc, Sessions (they are still out there), media music work/library/production companies, Orchestrating, transcribing for midi file companies, copying (Sibelius/Finale etc) for show companies And school Orchestra/band parts. Music tech teaching/assisting..the list goes on and on. A lot of this of would need sight reading skills, good knowledge of theory, good ears etc, But that's why successful working musicians work, they have these skills (and contacts of course). You need to think out of the box, the work is there for freelancers, Bottom line, it can be hard work, but can/does have good financial rewards. Most of the people I know and work with/for have mortgages or houses paid for, Family's, holidays and don't live on Pot Noodles or eat their pets. Just my view from another corner. Carry on.
5. Or if you are using iPad..... Anytune Pro + (£10.50) There is free cut down version. Fantastic app, great for transcribing.
6. It's pretty much been summed up in the Dingus post But again,The Baked Potato really is worth a visit, usually some top, top Musicans on show. LA is my Lady...Love the place.
7. Hey mate, those two tracks sound great.... Enjoy the gig.
8. Just listened again (after a few months). Plenty of dynamics there, chorus and verse have light and shade. Arrangement has twist and turns. Great delivery from the players, who are right on it and in control. Busy? maybe....(for me it's great). But that's their style, and they are good at it. How much theory they know, or where they studied has feck all to do with it, There are influences from thirty years of music in the playing, Clearly they all have a good set of ears, they listen to each other, They bounce of each other - And seem to really enjoy it and are having fun. I really appreciate their energy and groove. My take on it - Does it for me.
9.
Is anyone here actually getting any money from the PPL as a performer?
I have been getting money from them (not large amounts). For recordings/sessions/promos for various show cast albums, Some dating back quite a while (upto around 14 years) Some of the recordings were also used on various TV stuff. Over the past 4/5 years I have had about £300. But I have started to think it is very hit and miss, because just before Xmas The MU contacted me to say that they had some payments for me that had Found their way to them via ITV (about £40, which I presume should have been collected by PPL).
10.
30% discount, just about to buy Albion II .
Great stuff - Make sure to check out the tutorial vids on setting up Articulations, some neat stuff. The Spitfire library sounds and plays great..... If I was you I would grab as much stuff from them as you can afford, While you get that student discount...LOL...
11. Good to know your key sigs, even if you don't sight read. If on a busking gig or Jazz gig, it's not uncommon for a band leader to Turn around and hold up three fingers (A) or three fingers down (Eb) etc for key reference. On the other hand, If you are a m***er at busking and find yourself on a dep gig And are having a nightmare, and the band leader holds up two fingers (D) Or thumb and first finger in the shape of (C) he might be suggesting something else.
12. No experience with the Hollywood library, but from what I have heard, it does sound convincing. I went for Symphobia 1 and Symphobia 2 (there was a big discount a couple of years back). This particular library is great for the big Symphonic/Cinematic sound. Legato is also very well catered for. There is also Plenty of very useful keystroke articulations, and some very nice section layerings. Plus a selection of bonus material, like clusters, risers, rips, big hits and extended slurs etc. However I have just started investing in The Spitfire Audio libraries, mixing and matching sections. Well worth checking out and seems to be popping up on a lot of TV drama/games and small film. The sounds are more intimate than the other major libraries (although they have now released Mural, which is Aimed at more Symphonic textures). Check out their website for demo scores (impressive). I am not sure what the score is with educational discount. https://www.spitfireaudio.com https://www.spitfireaudio.com/browse-all-2d
13. Thought this might be of interest. The guys over at the 'Films and Games Composers' ....... http://www.filmandgamecomposers.com/ Have put together (rounded up) a collection of various production videos on one YouTube page. https://www.youtube....campaign=buffer Garry
14.
Great to see that there might be some more 'authentic' bass playing in this months comp - I'm not a bass player but am a fan of the bass guitar. With the suggestion towards the HUGE subject of funk/70's/p-funk/disco/soul/jazz - I am sure it is gonna be a great comp!
Well..............There has been some of the Funkiest Bass Lines blowing out the bottom of peoples Hi-Fi's, played on...Er....... Bass Synth/Keyboards. If it's played on a 34" Bass spoon and Funky, It's all welcome. And that really would be a challenge.
15. Another side to Chaka that I love, She can sit back on it when required. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymuWb8xtCsc

If you use Cubase or Nuendo, this might be of interest. It works well. http://www.steinberg...nect/trial.html
17.
This might make your male member look longer though, which could be grounds for rejection in itself.
Start you own band......and call it 'Erection Rejection'.
18. We are talking about just trying to join a regular gigging (image) band? Doing studio/TV sessions of general freelancing/depping work, this would never arise, Unless you are auditioning for a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs gig/tour.
19.
It's OK, I got your reference! Not sure others would though...
Don't get 'Swept Away' with all the comedy - You need to be old enough. Too much 'Free Time' on our hands.
20.
do you you know you can show the vid/pic by deleting the S in the https in the start of the web address. just a thought buddy
For some reason when I post from my iPad, only the address link shows up. The deleting the 'S' don't seem to work. Maybe someone knows a way around this ?
21. Nicet Live Concert from the Java Jazz Festival last year. At 29:30 the Bass player shares melody duties with the Sax player, very nicely played as well. https://www.youtube....h?v=qLu_FOa1S_c
22. The Webmley gig. Nice Bass solo from NE at 03:25 in the first video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUdBihoqwBU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLG0qe1rffw
23.
Yep, I was there. My father was a jazz trumpet player so this was part of my education aged 12!!
He would have liked that 'Patches' Stewart was on Trumpet duty with AJ that night....
24.
I kind of meant on a score, so you can play cello music without having to transpose the notation up, assuming you have a low B.
You can play what's written, but on the Bass Gtr/ Double Bass it will sound an Octave lower. If you want to play that particular piece in the same register as the Cello, you would have to play your Bass part up an Octave. For chart reading purposes, The Cello sounds as written, Bass sounds an octave lower Than written. I think that's what you are saying.
