Great playing from him, and the Voices of East Harlem sound stonking (as do the rest of the band) Nice post.

I also read something along those lines - Lead Violinist would see Tom & Jerry sessions approaching in the diary, and would start to get all tense and nervous days before. More than likely it was myth, but still funny to think about it.

I grew up with this stuff, and I am kinda remembering the scenes..

Brilliant stuff and superb musicianship, including plate smashing.... Published on Aug 30, 2013 A medley of the well-known energetic music by composer Scott Bradley from the 1940's and 1950's Tom and Jerry cartoons. Wonderfully performed live by the John Wilson Orchestra at the 2013 BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in London. Arranged by Peter Morris and John Wilson. Pete Morris, who worked on the arrangement with John Wilson, on 4 September wrote the following in response to questions about this video: "we wanted to create a score that wasn't too fragmented and that didn't rely on visuals so the music you hear is a compilation of some of the best bits of Scott Bradley's music. There is no single video for the music - it comes from eight different cartoons: Smitten Kitten, Sufferin' Cats, The Framed Cat, Cat Fishin' Just Ducky, Jerry and Jumbo, The Cat Comes to Dinner and Mouse for Sale". On 8 september Pete Morris added: "John is a dab hand at reconstructing scores from audio. Check his Wiki page for info. In this case, however, we used score fragments, archives and a lot of patience. I used FCP to extract candidate snippets of video and linked them to create a 3 candidate narratives which John and I then worked on. Copyright is a nightmare (MGM, Warner, Sony, Turner, EMI have all owned bits in the past) - only JW has the clout to cut though that quagmire. Scores are as rare as hens' teeth." On 16 September Pete added: "Bradley's original scores were played by typically 20 to 25 musos. In fact, if you look at the beginning of the performance there are only 3 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello and 1 bass, to start with the original MGM sound. However, more instruments are added as the piece progresses to the full 100-piece orchestra at the end. Scott Bradley also preferred orchestral sound effects to ones added by the sound department, hence the big "shock chords" that you find at various places". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYrUWfLlYI0 Garry
"Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis" by Vaughan Williams
This is amazing, as is a lot of Vaughan Williams writing. Always loved the OP video, great post.

If you feel happy with what you got (any age) go with that. When you feel comfortable, you will play better. The thing to watch out for with older strings, is that it is more likely they can/will have intonation problems.

I have some (pdf) walking charts knocking around, Maybe I will try and start uploading some during the day if I get a chance. If you have Finale, I could just upload the Finale files and you can convert to PDF, Using the Finale files you can then Transpose to any key, which will be good practise anyway. I don't really have time at the moment to convert. Here are a few pdf's to get you going.
It was an absolute pleasure to play, mostly because every detail of the orchestration had been thought about.... Makes all the difference even with that small an ensemble.
Great when that happens, you can play everything with solid confidence, and know everyone else will be 'on it' as well. Good one mate. Glad some folks might find the site useful.

What ho ! What's going on in the Jazz club then ? In the red corner, a German style bow, and in the blue corner, a French style bow. -

Just been doing some work for someone, and I had to revisit some Orchestration techniques before I made an Ass of myself, and thankfully this site came in useful. So if you want to do some serious Orchestral orchestration study - This site is for you. It's from the Rimsky Korsakov books, but it is laid out very well with all the Audio examples. Each section can be taken at your own pace, or just pick sections out at random. It's all pretty serious stuff. Sleeping is a complete waste of time, and is expensive. I was born in 1957 and have never been to bed to sleep. The money I have saved on beds, pyjamas and cornflakes is pretty amazing.

Electric bass in Jazz (as opposed to Fusion, Jazz Rock etc)
lowdown replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
In the 50/60's Monk Montgomery did ok (great) with it, he seemed to get that natural decay and lovely thick round tone of an Upright, he was also a good DB player that could swing nicely, which helped...but yep, they are few and far between. Garry -

Most freebies (not all) are usually just .dll files that don't need registration, and they can be dragged and dropped anywhere you want, but on a lot of 3rd party VST/VSTi's that come with libraries and presets, the .dll will only install from the original disc. Mainly because you have to do the serial number/challenge and response/iLok thing before it will go any further Or in the case of Native Instruments, the service centre thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZfT2T1wRzo

One will be 32 bit version plugs (x86) the other of course x64 versions. Some Vsts/Vsti's install a Vst3 version as well. If Reaper can handle VST3's, they will be in ..... C:\Program Files\Commonfiles\Vst3\ (for 64 bit) C:\Program Files(x86)\Commonfiles\Vst3\ (for 32 bit) But a DAW that can handle Vst3, usually locates the Vst3 folders/files automatically. Garry
C:\Program Files\VstPlugins is where the 64 bit plugins are installed by default. C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins are where the 32 bit plugins are installed by default. I'd highly recommend sticking to these locations.
It's worth a mention that sometimes... If a VST or VSTi has an installer, it will sometimes use or create a folder called Steinberg. So it would be... C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins (for 64 bit) Then direct your DAW to that folder as well as \VstPlugins, and scan/re-scan both folders. Garry
