1.
Lol....yes, and if Stan takes a look at the clip he will find the irony!

2.
Are you serious
If you look back over every post in general discussions for the last couple of years, You will find the answer.
3. I like solo and virtuoso playing (any Instrument), but the OP video is just too messy and disjointed for me. I have seen VW a few times with the Flecktones, his grooving and timing in an ensemble/band situation is out there with the best of them. I understand maybe his solo performances ain't for everyone, but it is always confident and minus flaky clams. After seeing the OP video again, I think I will tacet on re evaluating my role as musician,
4. Thanks for he tip. Seems like it might be a good one - But I was counting out loud, and my wife thought I sounded like John (Joseph) Merrick.
5. They all sound an octave lower than written. The player for me.
6. I think the snake charmer spoils it.
7. I have been involved in many working situations, where additional enhancements have been used. For me it really depends on the quality of Instruments, and how they are blended in on the track/click track, Augmenting a track because of lack of musicians, like adding auxiliary percussion, adding extra blowing/string instruments to pad out or fill in harmony blanks can work well, Tucking in close harmony vocals, another winner. When this is all done with subtleness, good arranging, and not over exposing things, It can really polish a tune. The only problems for me, are when some folks have trouble playing in time with the click track. Solo singers who need to work with tracks, are a visual turn off (to me) however good, and I lose interest, but it don't seem to bother the paying Joe public, and I suppose, that's what matters.
8.
And bonus votes for anyone who successfully manages to incorporate this sound into their track: http://www.freesound.../sounds/202111/
I like the way they break out into a harmony every now and then.... It sounds like a couple of bedroom upright players practising their bowing technique without any Rosin... Garry
9. I believe Skol and Discreet have posted links (somewhere) for creative commons copyright licenses, maybe just use them to avoid any problems. Garry
10. No such story or sleepless nights for me, l just looked at the picture of a miserable git sitting in a chair, I then sat at the keyboard and pressed record in Cubase...Then cleaned the mess up afterwards... Good one Skol (well put together), and indeed everyone else. It was between Bilbo and Ambient for me (both hit the emotion of the picture really well imo) Then Dad's epic meandering drew my attention after another listen. In the end I voted for Dad - it intrigued me how it went from an Arabic version of the Hovis theme for the intro, Into some kind of Desert battle action from Lawrence of Arabia, skipped through a scene that vocally mimicked a cue from an Ennio Morricone Spaghetti western without the whip cracks, then finished with a snake charming theme in a market place !, The whole thing was totally bazaar, made little sense of the calm motionless aftermath of the picture (IMO), but was real out of the box thinking. Garry
11.
Do you use German grip or French when typing, then..? Can you recommend me rosin for my keyboard..? How do you rate the typing key response..? High tension or low..?
And you missed.... "Madam, you have between your legs an instrument capable of giving pleasure to thousands and all you can do is scratch it."
12.
folk think the cello in my piece was 'played'.
It was.....................From a member of the Miroslav Orchestra. And a very nice expressive sample it is.
13.
The modern single cut basses are closer to that Strat/P-bass descended shape, only with the space between the upper horn and the neck filled in.
Yep, quite a few designs like that. I have been using one for over eight years now, the only fretted Bass I have. It is just a five stg Jazz Bass design, with the top horn filled in (a coffee table type of course) Mine is certainly here to stay.
14.
Not the Chinese Elvish who used to have the restaurant the Old Kent Road ? ;-)
Good grief..Him..! God awful noise in there... Elvis in one ear, and dozens of one tit hanging out tanked up hen parties in the other. Great times......
15. Busy Bass ? Maybe.... But I do like the way all the tunes have been reharmonized and rearranged on this concert,
16. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for that. Garry
17. There could be a sticky on all things MIDI, Like tips on programming, what CC#'s do, and how to use them, what they mean etc. All the stuff people get hung up on regarding it. Good Libraries and Synths could be in there as well. Plenty of links out there that would be good stacked together in one place. Garry
18.
You should check out the Walter Piston book on orchestration if you can. In many ways it has superseded the RK
I have a Hard back copy of this (handed down) and yep it is great. I noticed a couple of times on Ebay in the past, that it fetched over 300 quid... Garry
19. Great playing from him, and the Voices of East Harlem sound stonking (as do the rest of the band) Nice post.
20. I also read something along those lines - Lead Violinist would see Tom & Jerry sessions approaching in the diary, and would start to get all tense and nervous days before. More than likely it was myth, but still funny to think about it.
21. I grew up with this stuff, and I am kinda remembering the scenes..
22. Brilliant stuff and superb musicianship, including plate smashing.... Published on Aug 30, 2013 A medley of the well-known energetic music by composer Scott Bradley from the 1940's and 1950's Tom and Jerry cartoons. Wonderfully performed live by the John Wilson Orchestra at the 2013 BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in London. Arranged by Peter Morris and John Wilson. Pete Morris, who worked on the arrangement with John Wilson, on 4 September wrote the following in response to questions about this video: "we wanted to create a score that wasn't too fragmented and that didn't rely on visuals so the music you hear is a compilation of some of the best bits of Scott Bradley's music. There is no single video for the music - it comes from eight different cartoons: Smitten Kitten, Sufferin' Cats, The Framed Cat, Cat Fishin' Just Ducky, Jerry and Jumbo, The Cat Comes to Dinner and Mouse for Sale". On 8 september Pete Morris added: "John is a dab hand at reconstructing scores from audio. Check his Wiki page for info. In this case, however, we used score fragments, archives and a lot of patience. I used FCP to extract candidate snippets of video and linked them to create a 3 candidate narratives which John and I then worked on. Copyright is a nightmare (MGM, Warner, Sony, Turner, EMI have all owned bits in the past) - only JW has the clout to cut though that quagmire. Scores are as rare as hens' teeth." On 16 September Pete added: "Bradley's original scores were played by typically 20 to 25 musos. In fact, if you look at the beginning of the performance there are only 3 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello and 1 bass, to start with the original MGM sound. However, more instruments are added as the piece progresses to the full 100-piece orchestra at the end. Scott Bradley also preferred orchestral sound effects to ones added by the sound department, hence the big "shock chords" that you find at various places". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYrUWfLlYI0 Garry
23.
"Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis" by Vaughan Williams
This is amazing, as is a lot of Vaughan Williams writing. Always loved the OP video, great post.
24. If you feel happy with what you got (any age) go with that. When you feel comfortable, you will play better. The thing to watch out for with older strings, is that it is more likely they can/will have intonation problems.
25. I have some (pdf) walking charts knocking around, Maybe I will try and start uploading some during the day if I get a chance. If you have Finale, I could just upload the Finale files and you can convert to PDF, Using the Finale files you can then Transpose to any key, which will be good practise anyway. I don't really have time at the moment to convert. Here are a few pdf's to get you going.
