Very sad news indeed..... http://www.radiofact...orge-duke-dies/ Still one of my favourite GD tracks. And another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gpRcPLnMoo Just so much material from him, also his contribution to other artists was immense. Great musician all round. R.I.P
I settled for a 'master' beat of 120, and went with the flow. It became very easy to 'line up' the transitions
Just been putting some markers in place for a template. And 120 Bpm seems pretty steady for me as well, although I will need a couple of 2/4 bars and a couple of 3/8 bars to link through the transitions. Some of the picture transitions are tight and link well, some splutter over a couple of beats. Oh well, I will look over it in anger next week sometime.

I am with Bilbo with this one - I am not going to revisit the older tracks and go over old ground, If I get time to do this, I am going to start from scratch, It will be more of a challenge (for me) The problem is getting the older tracks out of my head.

Hollow Sun do some great and very cheap stuff for Kontakt. They also have some very good Synth patches going free [The Bass Synths are excellent) Freebies........... http://www.hollowsun.com/HS2//freepacks/index.htm Garry
Well done, and against stiff competition, too. Maybe I should have (mis-...) spent a bit more of my distant youth in those great halls of [s]fire[/s] disco, it's a genre of which I know little. Never mind, onwards and upwards; on to the next challenge. Thumbs up for all entries, of course, especially that for which I voted..! (Potters off, mumbling... One day I'll have voted for the winner, one day..! I always knew my tastes were, comment dire, off-centre, but really... Disco, indeed..! These kids of today have lost their way, I fear. We are all doomed...)
Perhaps one month we could have a comp challenge related to a period of ones youth - Disco could be mine of course. I await your Viennese Waltz.
Well done Garry - about time you won it... good stuff mate
Thanks Mike. Well, that's my second win, and a first place tie..So I can hang up my DAW now (Along with Skol & You). Garry

Thanks for all the nice comments folks, It was a good month and some great tracks up there. It was a bit of a tough call voting, but I got there in the end, someone really surprised me with something out of the blue. 70's was a great time for clubs and tripping over handbags (not mine) in search of one night of beer goggled fumbles.
Rach had the temerity to die later than the featured composers, so it's probably a copyright thing.
Just been reading up on Rach, yep he died in the 40's,. Very, interesting read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Rachmaninoff

Thank's for that - I noticed there was no Rachmaninoff there ? Mind you, you would need hands like shovels (Left hand anyway) I also wish there was somewhere I could grab some Dave Grusin piano parts. Garry
Those settings map to the notches on the arm of a traditional mechanical metronome, so Korg are following that. My electronic metronome (also a Korg, I think) can flip between adjusting by these traditional steps or in increments of 1. As mentioned, unlike modern click tracks, those metronomes were never designed to be used in performance, and it was always implicit that a real-world performance of a piece marked as say MM=120 would be performed "somewhere in the region of" 120 bpm.
Spot on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metronome Garry
+1
Hey Simon, just been looking at your web pages and noticed the 'Carlsbro Cobra 90' Me and my brother used one as a shared second amp for years. It had fallen off the back of trucks, soaked in beer in dodgy pubs, been thrown off airplanes, nicked and recovered by the Police, seen action in Abbey Road studios, borrowed by several other Bass players It had a life of it's own - And it was second hand when we got it, also with some previous history....It had never let anyone down. Apparently it was twenty years old when it died. Garry
Is there any software which can simulate completely fresh material to read?
Not sure if you have any notation programmes or not ? But if not, download Finale notepad (free) There are a couple of others as well (Google] http://www.finalemus...finale-notepad/ Then Google for free MIDI files (there are thousands out there) You can then import the MIDI file into Finale, and you would have as much new material as you want, in various keys, time signatures, styles etc. And of course you can change into any key and tempo, also mute the Bass track so you can play along to/with the rest of the Instruments. You can also tidy up the part with articulations/repeats/codas etc. Garry
Off on a tangent somewhat, I thought this article on SoundCloud about creating music with constraints was quite interesting. And I think creative collaboration could be fun, too. Just a thought...
Gband is cool as long as its for home learning etc.
Actually you can do an awful lot with Garageband, if you get into it there is a lot under the hood with the instruments available. and I don't mean using (supplied] loops. Wow, a lot of white flags already.. You mission, if you choose to accept it.....six minutes of media music. The way i see it..... treat it just as that, six minutes of media music, not twelve 30 second songs stitched together Load the Video/slide show, put in markers on your time line/bar lines for the picture change so you know where you are, and make one picture flow into the next..be it, a mood change, style change, key change or a variation on a theme[s] or whatever. Out of your comfort zone...maybe...out of this world...no!!.... You ain't gonna die....
