Off on a tangent somewhat, I thought this article on SoundCloud about creating music with constraints was quite interesting. And I think creative collaboration could be fun, too. Just a thought...
you should have been here when it was a 13 minute video
I was - And did the download, It came in at 100 meg, as an AVI HD... Took the time to eat my Frankfurter toasty while downloading.

Wow, a lot of white flags already.. You mission, if you choose to accept it.....six minutes of media music. The way i see it..... treat it just as that, six minutes of media music, not twelve 30 second songs stitched together Load the Video/slide show, put in markers on your time line/bar lines for the picture change so you know where you are, and make one picture flow into the next..be it, a mood change, style change, key change or a variation on a theme[s] or whatever. Out of your comfort zone...maybe...out of this world...no!!.... You ain't gonna die.... Twelve minutes is a lot of music - chances are some DAW's will freeze or fall over, depending on your computer spec of course. In real life scoring, video is cut down into sections/cues of maybe a minute or two, etc. It would have been better to have made it around six minutes long, say thirty second for each picture. And somewhere to host and download in Quicktime formate [smaller files]. Just throwing in some ideas (All IMO of course) and thinking of ways to make it easier for folks to get involved. I have downloaded the original video that was posted up on you tube, and it came in at about 100 meg AVI So I have converted into a Quicktime .Mov (A lot smaller file) and it works fine. But whatever is easiest for Charic, because it seems he has put some work into this. Garry

Why is there a lack of bass in traditional asian music
lowdown replied to mentalextra's topic in General Discussion
Quite a bit of Ethnic music is improvised, at times over a (Bass) drone, leaving plenty of freedom. Then there is Rhythm from percussion instruments (with various time sigs) and varying tunings/pitch from very low to quite high. Seems like they have everything covered to me, and without the aid of a twelve bar -
I suppose you could get an Amp that has less power than Terra Bass 500 head, then you could turn it up to eleven, that should impress the guys in your band. Garry

I think it's a classy, big occasion, American show business over the top arrangement, with plenty of passion and energy, and it came over that way. Top marks to the arranger, musicians and all the singers. Good stuff. -
That has got to be one of the worst "demos" I've ever seen. More than anything it proves the point that getting a realistic sound is all about the playing and less about the actual sound itself.
Yer, not the greatest, but easy to use. I am afraid Kontakt, and the many available libraries is the best way - But not the cheapest way.
...apart from Reason. Folks have been lobbying Propellerhead for video support for some time, but there's no way of integrating it at present. Still, no matter. I'm likely a minority in this regard and I'll find a workaround
Of course. I forgot that. Rewire Reason and Reaper together, maybe ? Just use Reaper to run the video. Reapers video support gets better and better all the time. Garry
Well , the thing is that Jaco and the other artists you mention were radical departures within their given discipline , and changed their medium forever . It is possible for all kinds of fancy Dan bass players to come along with amazing chops and technique , but so far most have struggled to make the impact that Jaco did . I wouldn't put Jaco in the same bracket as Mozart or Shakespear for various reasons ( I could explain why , if you like ) , but in his own modest way he was a genius of sorts , but not because of his technique . His gift was that he thought about and interpreted music differently to other people , and happened to do so via the medium of the bass guitar . Like just about every genius you can think of , Jaco was unconventional , a radical , and unlike anything that had come before him on the bass guitar . He wasn't alone in that by any means - there were other fantastically gifted players of that era - but at his best he was brilliant in his own right . He was versatile too , despite having such a distinctive signature style . He was a World- class jazz bassist and accomplished soloist , but his work as an accompanist in various genres is equally accomplished and shows great maturity and sensitivity to the overall musical picture rather than just his own role in it . Regardless of your own personal taste ( which you are fully entitled to , I hasten to add) Jaco was the real deal , the complete package . I am not one of Jaco's slavish followers by any means , and I couldn't even say he was the player I myself have enjoyed or or directly tried to emulate the most , but his stature on the instrument is undeniable .
Top of the class dude...
