....is driving me nuts. Trouble is, the customer support takes a minimum of 24 hours to respond to every question. I aks a question today, I get a response tomorrown that I cannot action until three days later which them doesn't work so I ask another question, wait another 24 hours and so on..... After this month's Composition competition, I realised I needed to up my game in terms of better VSTs. The thing is, I have a truckload on my PC that I have never even opened so I went back to IK Multimedia and the emailed me the Authohrisation Manager so I can access them but my PC just spits the damn thing out (my music PC is NOT on-line so I can't use the AM on-line, obviously but I also cannot open it in off line mode because it won't open. AAAAARGH!!) Another two hours of my life gone on uncooperative IT.
A no brainer deal going on for the next couple of days at Cakewalk. Easy installation, just a registration and a serial number. Seven gig of very, very useful all round sounds, and easy to work. Dimension Pro VSTi dropped to just fifthteen quid. Might be just what you need, rather than messing with the limited LE/Demo versions of the IK stuff.
Great suggestions Paul and Garry - I'll have a look at those myself - my sample library is groaning with stuff at the moment but one of the cool sources for me has been Future Music and Computer Music magazines as each month they come with a DVD with about 8GB of content on - admittedly it tends to be on the electronic side of things but it's worth a look once in a while: http://www.musicradar.com/futuremusic It's also costs money... but hey thought I'd mention it - they often have useful tutorials and other stuff like pesky gear reviews that make you spend more money
Mike, I mentioned earlier about the chopping and moving around in Stylus RMX. Small tutorial here - well worth a look. http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/stylusrmx-videos.php In fact 4 pages of RMX video tutorials here. RMX is such a powerful tool, and there is dozens of libraries out there.
So, does anyone know how it's played? The whole track is fine, it's just that one little bit right at the very start.
This might help...although it is a bit of a handfull, best done on keys - two hands needed, unless you sequence it.
Yes. Yes. Yes. I read a review which compared it to Hall & Oates but I heard it as Steely Dan. I have to say I LOVE this album I will be listening to this album for most of the summer but I reckon I'll be revisiting early Daft Punk, Donald Fagen and a whole host of goodies with John Robinson on :-)
My take as well.
Realistically, £800 - £1,000 per month.
Pro shows - you can earn between £600/£1,000 pw [company dependent], or course ex's on top of that to take off. Not the gig for everyone, but on the plus side you can dep out and do other stuff. Even a Full on Panto for a few weeks over the winter/xmas period can earn you between £400/£600.00 pw, again depending on the company you work for. All hard work but worth it, and you get to meet plenty of Musicians and MD's. Garry
Can't really figure out what Daft Punk are doing on most of the tracks on the album... guess they just sit and watch!
And learning. Great track, and Nile Rodgers still grooving away. Garry
Everyone judges by different criteria I reckon , the subtlety of whether there is too heavy compression or over aggressive gating will not even get recognised by some.
+1 If it comes over as Musical and pleasant to the ears, people will more than likely go for it. I for one always take great interest in Si's comments and summing up on these mix get togethers. A lot of you folk put plenty of time and effort into this, so i hope people vote for the right reasons. Garry
Thanks for that Garry , do you mean looser in the timing playing off the beat kind of thing , or varying the actual timing itself ? I might have half a chance of getting the sticks out again ,
Sorry mate - I missed this. More the actual drum fills are sounding straight 8's, rather than swing 8's or triplet feel. Like i said trying to make a MIDI part swing is very hard. Garry
I haven't had a chance to look at 500 Miles High yet but here is my take on week 1: http://snd.sc/15qOm6Q
Just picked one random link from this thread, it was yours..
Here you go, guys. My frustration is that, whatever the merits on my composition, the resulting sound of midi muck is suck city. It is my bass and (perfectly sh*te) guitar over a Band in the Box background. So it all sounds a bit cacky. The fade end is because BIAB just stops and, weak as it sounds, it was the lesser of two evils. I rest by my view that doing everything yourself in your home studio makes for really bad Jazz In short, judge the composition, not the performance! My thoughts were 'Blue Note' sessions are usually simple written heads over 32 bar sequences and 10 choruses of solos. The waltz idea was because the second image was a flower and a straight grooving blues didn't reflect the visual concept as well as a waltz. https://soundcloud.c...w-blossom-waltz
Hey Rob....Very nice tune on the head...And weh hey..!! some form changes.... Great stuff mate. Garry
