Its a showcase for his expertise, no doubt he is a top player regarding other genres on the bass that would pluck up the ears of the critics on here. I thought he was Impressive.
I agree. It's not just an exercise, it's a toone from start to finish. The guys got chops/ears for a tune, and he is articulated musically. At 02:10 it gets a little sloppy for a few bars, although that might be that envelope filter not responding fast enough. But so what, he's doing his thing. It sounds like it has all come naturally. Someone above has said where's da funk gone ? The original was not funk, just a bit of Nu Disco [and great it was] with Nile doing his bit. Good stuff.
Changing keys is a bit X factor for me. Why do they always notch it up at the end. It does my head in.
Here is that Steps Ahead track I was talking about: Beirut.. Listen to Brecker's EWI solo at 3.40 and Manieri's synth vibe solo at 5.40. And Daryl Jones munching throughout.
This track still sounds great ! Victor Bailey on Bass though, and co wrote If I remember correctly [I need to check CD credits though] And the Mike Stern track is another favourite of mine.
That studio trainer site doesn't make any attempt to try and correct or mitigate those issues....
It was just a link for some tips, or something that might come in useful to some folks, or just to browse around. I would not get carried away with one gig, where the Guitarist does over the top solos. Does it work over a few gigs ? Or will it end up doing your head in ? Leave it as it is, you now have a couple of Guitarists to cover the gig.

No alcohol during Cruise Ship work at all? Is this the norm?
Indeed...
One persons few, is not another persons few. Regarding the OP - It does happen, but is not the norm [It's usually the Ferry Crossing gigs] Done many Cruise ship gigs around the World and there was never a zero no booze policy, and there are few others on this forum who have done the same cruises - folk tend to be responsible [full off the rails occasionally] However I did a couple of the short two week crossings, back and forth from Spain & France with a zero booze policy, and on both occasions a Muso was sent home for boozing. If you like a drink, stay away from the [OP] gig - There is always someone willing to grass you up. I ain't drunk booze for around ten years, so it would not bother me... However these days, the gig would.... Garry -
Didn't do anything for me musically or otherwise. She can certainly sing a lot better than she can play guitar. As for the drummer....meh!
Yep, I agree with that. -
Its natural to check out the opposite sex and if they are doing something that you have an interest in, all the better.
Sir Thomas Beecham thought so to. To a female cellist in rehearsal: "Madam, you have between your legs an instrument capable of giving pleasure to thousands - and all you can do is scratch it." Garry -
