Although i am a Kontakt 5 user, i thought i would give this a go for fun. It's pretty impressive, and there is also a x64 bit version. The CPU hit is very small, so the more RAM you have, you can load up tons of Audio/Wav files or Sound Fonts. There are dozens of really good free sound fonts on the net, just Google away. There are also 3 or 4 excellent Orchestral library collections out there in sound font form [Free - again Google is your friend] This is a great way of building up a good Software Instrument library at no cost. You can also do all the chopping/slicing etc, as well as just a play back engine. Unlimited Multi timbral, so you can run plenty of MIDI tracks. I have been testing this afternoon, with four instances of TX16W [using sound fonts] each running 16 MIDI tracks And it worked a dream with no drop outs or stuttering. Enjoy. Ha Ha - Just had a listen to that Angry Birds theme....very clever, and in at around one minute long. Bit like some kind of Klezmer/Bar Mitzvah tune with a comedy twist....... Garry

The big titles these days are very much Symphonic/Cinematic fused with Rock and Electronic. Of course the vintage vibe is still around, App games very much alive with this. Two great libs for the Cinematic sound come from Project Sam, just superb.... The Multi patches combine Winds/Brass and Strings right across the Keyboard, which saves using dozens of MIDI tracks - It saves a lot of time. All the Articulation Key strokes are down in the C0/-C0 range, and can be played in real time or written in after. Symphobia two and Symphobia one, along with True Strike[Their Percussion library]. Check out the Demo's. http://www.projectsam.com/Products/Feature-Products/ Garry
I can feel some chiptune coming on
After recent conversations of goliath bit rates, we are now talking 8 bit... That route did cross my mind. Should be some corkers in March. Garry

Wey Hey...A very, very big thanks for all that voted. Great turn out this month I think everyone that entered grabbed the 'Emotion' that was screaming out from that picture [in different wa\ys] One good thing about these comps [for me] is that i find myself wandering around folks 'Soundcloud' sites and listening to their other tracks. Otherwise i might not have bothered [Or had any links to get me there] So for March.........................................................................
It's Christmas/Easter/Valentine's Day/Mothers day/My wife's birthday
What a great tip of the day - When getting married, have the partner agree that these all fall on the same day for card purpose. Then that's only one day of the year to forget.

If you are talking about good value for money - Samplitude Music Studio 2013 [Smaller Brother of Samplitude Pro X ] Is well worth a look as well. A very, very stable DAW. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samplitude-Anniversary-Special-Independence-Library/dp/B008U1AY7K/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top VideoTutorials http://www.magix.com/int/samplitude-music-studio/detail/tutorials/ Garry
IMO unless your current DAW is missing a feature that you know is essential to your workflow you would be better off looking at improving your audio interface, getting some decent microphones and more accurate monitor speakers, and investing in some plugins instead.
All this is great advice, seriously worth thinking about.
Any thoughts on the move anyone?
If you use Ableton - whats missing that you need ? First you must think what you want from a DAW............ Do you want a x64 sequencer, gives you all the extra RAM in windows [Mac not a problem] Pro Tools is not x64 [will run on a x64 windows machine - but with limited RAM usage] Your work flow needs, what suits you Do you want bundled sounds ? The quality of the sounds - saves you shelling out later. How much MIDI work are you going to do. Drag and drop...etc Notation/Video... Plug ins.... Floating windows Docking List goes on and on and on. Most ofl the DAWS have fully [30 days ?] functioning Demo's - Try them all if you can, do a project in each. Everyone will chip in with this is better than that etc........But they are not sitting in your chair. [In no preference order by the way] Reaper Sonar X2 Cubase 7 [or Artist 7] Nuendo 6 Samplitude Pro/Samplitude Pro X Suite Presonus Studio One v2.5 Magix Samplitude Music Studio 2013 Reason Logic Digital Performer Pro Tools More than likely that there are more. Big selection.... They all do a fantastic job - Spend time and get to know your DAW. Jumping from one DAW to another in search of the holy grail of sound, is usually pilot error. Garry

Just started mine tonight, so will post up tomorrow afternoon. Had several false starts this evening I found it very hard to get away from the [my] typical Ambient approach that usually goes with this type of image. See you all at the other end..... Garry
wow... rec specs are scary for one plug!
Not really - high PC specs are the normal these days in Audio recording. i7 Quad Cores machines are reasonably priced, and quality RAM running in pretty cheap as well. Most DAW and plug in vendors would use the spec you quoted for their software, just to cover thier arse. Garry

Just a heads up for Nebula 3 from Acustica-Audio. I am not usually one for Gassing for FX, i usually just go with the Native DAW plugs, and freebies. But the free version of this is worth a try. There are two paid for versions and in the end i went for the 79 Euros version - The full server version is about 150 Euros i think. Company http://www.acustica-audio.com/ The Nebula 3 free bundle. [worth a go i think] http://www.acustica-audio.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=20&Itemid=101 Garry
