Fantastic. Making music out of trash, as opposed to music that is trash... Garry

I have been using The Quad Capture for about a year - And love it. The on board Compressor/Iimiter does what it says pretty well. It runs at very very low latency, the Midi drivers are rock solid, and plenty of signal going in. The only thing[s] that i gripe with is - no separate volume controls for speakers and head phones, just the one volume out knob. so when using headphones you need to power off your monitors. The pre amps sound great for Bass and Gtr and do a decent job for Vocal Mic as well. We have a Babyface on our other Computer, which my partner says she prefer's for Mic recording. And of course has the more I/O's, plus the total mix FX's. More dosh though. The Quad does a great job and is good value. Garry

I posted this in the free VST section a couple of weeks ago. MeldaProductions. Everything you need for clean up Audio, and of course some standard plugs. - and they are very good. Well worth checking out. http://www.meldaprod...freevstplugins/ Garry

Do you tell your work colleagues that you play bass?
lowdown replied to mentalextra's topic in General Discussion
If you are sitting in a Show/Orchestra pit most nights of the week, with a Bass guitar hanging around your neck, and maybe another one on a stand, It is a bit of a give away to the rest of your surrounding work mates - or maybe not ! Garry -
Are there basslines that only a stand up bass can play

If you are interested in some free on-line study in production, this might help. Looks quite basic - but hey, it's free. Hope this helps some folk. https://www.coursera.org/course/musicproduction Garry

I liked/voted the other day - No big deal, Some folk on this forum over the past year or so have come and asked for similar 'Like/vote' promoting their band or services, or on behalf of friends.. Although it might have been a better deal all round if Joe had signed into Basschat himself and asked, and possibly chatted a little [The man is a Bass player legend after all] I am sure more people might have helped out that way. Anyway good luck to the kid. Garry -
Those who dismiss Sanborn as being merely a smooth jazz player would do well to listen to his playing on Tim Bern's tribute album to Julius Hemphill. The album is called "Diminutive Mysteries". Sanborn is no slouch !! http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/B0000046M9
That's a great album !! Garry

The quality seems to be not so good on this, but if you can get a copy of this there is some great playing all round. I only have a VHS, not sure there is a DVD out there [might be] Sanborn seems to get a terrible panning in this country, I have seen him a few times [once with MM at Wembley] And him and his band have always been right on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKNjKBszLA8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC5s88Tvmxc&playnext=1&list=AL94UKMTqg-9DTKAfZ3jbTSN62KdKQViC0 Garry
Where did you get the bargain on Miroslav software, Walman? I have looked at that before. I currently use a really old version of Edirol (I think? It was written before Bach died) and it is ok but I know the Miroslav stuff is better. I am also thinking of working on full orhestral composing in future but it is hard, not only because of the complexity of the arranging but because getting the software to work is a nightmare.
If you are on a budget - The Garritan Orchestral library is well worth a punt [$149.99] Plenty of articulations, correct panning placement of the Instruments, and some Instrument divi combinations. It's all in one 16 channel multi timbral VSTi, so you can use as many instances as your computer can handle. Quite a lot of the Orchestral training collages use this. Here you go, price, info and demo's. http://www.garritan....d=154&Itemid=54 Instrument list. http://www.garritan....=125&Itemid=138 They also have the free Korsakov on line training, well worth looking at. http://www.garritan....apper&Itemid=34 A very, very useful forum. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/39-Garritan-Libraries Their own free Video training on the software. http://www.garritan.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=159&Itemid=120 In short - just about everything you will need for Midi Orchestral writing. And software with incredible support. Garry
Evidence suggests otherwise, police have acknowledged this and if someone doesnt like my track they dont vote for it, sorry if language offends you but i come from the punk era and say it how i feel it is, like i said earlier just being honest, this has f..kd me right up as people seem to have got the hump now, opinions where asked for and given, its ok to disagree, we can agree to disagree, not having a go, like i said just being honest. Anyone ever started a music publishing company?
lowdown replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
You can register works with the PRS/MCPS without having a publishing deal simply by becoming a writer member. from the mid 80s onwards as pop songs started to appear in film and TV soundtracks, to the present day where pretty much any genre of music can crop up in the background of a TV soap or the latest blockbuster. I would suggest that now (for the songwriters in a band at least) a good publishing deal is probably more valuable that a recording contract. A good publisher will be working their contacts in the film and TV production companies as well as anywhere else that uses recorded music to get your songs in there. Personally I can't see the point of starting your own music publishing company. It doesn't give your compositions any extra protection over what is already available to you a writer anyway, and unless you have a great list of up-to-date industry contacts who'll give you the time of day it won't be able to do any of the things that a "real" music publisher can.
This. Also if you are involved with any worth while Library/Production company they would publish your material. If you are just putting up tracks on websites and feel concerned, just join PRS/MCPS and register your tracks. Garry -
