lowdown replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I have read a couple of times over the years that it was indeed Max Bennett. Max Bennett has had a fantastic career, and is a great player with a solid Jazz back ground. His web sites.... [Engage in converstion and ask him yourself, on his Guestbook] http://maxbennett.co...x.php/guestbook Home page.
If i can pull it off... it will be huge
You need to evidence this, not in public though. Perhaps Charic will take a look and post the result. Garry
IIRC there were more and longer tracks last month.
Fair enough - just a suggestion. Garry

I am finding it hard to find the time to wade through all the tracks in one hit. It seems to me that with more people having a knock each month, that it might worth putting a shorter track length in place for a still picture image - between 1 1/2 - 2 minutes maybe [videos different matter of course] That way more people might listen through and vote. Just a suggestion of course. Garry

Free Jam Track, made by me, tho not my compostion!
Don't know if anyone will be interested in this. Basically a friend who has restarted playing keyboard after a number of years asked me to make him a jam track so he could practise improvising in F-minor and D minor over it. It's essentially a really basic version Canteloupe island with the second chord being changed from a Db7 to Dbmaj7 to keep it diatonic, at his request. I made it and just thought i'd put it on here in case anyone fancied it. The chord sequence is 4 bars Fmin7, 4bars Dbmaj7, (f minor), 4 bars Dmin7, 4 bars Fmin7. then just looped a lot. It's really basic but it may be good for someone to use, knock yourself out. Cheers
Hope this helps some folk. I had to change the file extension from .ipb to .mp3 after download to get it to play on W7. Garry -
I voted a while back. I think Bilbo deserves a separate award for the best title. What is it with jazzers and weak puns? I recall an album by my erstwhile jazz-piano teacher Janette Mason called "Din and Tonic", which seems to be part of the same tradition.
Mike Bradley [Drummer] wrote a tune called "Stomping On The Saveloy" Garry
Think I've put it up before but have since added a load of tunes. Me on everything: soundcloud.com/natewilliamsmusic Hope you enjoy what you hear!
Yo Nate. Just just checked your page out - Fantastic stuff !! Really nice playing and singing, good tunes as well, nice and melodic. Garry

Chas n Dave, talented boys & another Yamaha BB player!
lowdown replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I was on a summer show with them two [Three - Mickey 'Take a back seat'] back in the 90's. Got quite friendly with them, and had a go on that P Bass a few times. Oh................and they taught my how to get pissed proper like. Dave is a very solid player. Great geezers and very charitable. Garry -

Thanks for that Rob - I love this trio. Remember getting 'Grasshopper' mid 80's and being knocked out. Superb playing and interacting all round. Great stuff. Garry -
Video - Awesome band, bassist and my God, the bass face!

Great stuff - very much in the early style of Tower of Power. And nobody complained about them [Rightly so ] Garry -
Carole Kaye has claimed she played bass on it....
Fantastic. Although CK is a great and well respected player, look's like she has tried to shaft someone else. Garry Garry

Good stuff, and a great tune and arrangement. Funny, it sounds really odd without the superb Orchestrations on top. Garry
On a practical note, I bet arranging their rehearsals is harder than arranging yours!
Great stuff and a nice arrangement. Garry
The one month were the picture really suits my influences (metal mainly) and I haven't had a chance to get anything recorded! ah well!! Looking forward to hearing all the entrys, gonna wait to listen to them all one by one.
I think the pictures can be open to any genre, it's just what you make of it. In all honesty, with out a brief it could be anything................ Fiddles and Banjo's, and you have a Rodeo impression...... Garry

Nearly forgot about this [link down at the moment] But i did listen a few days back. I really like it, and it's nice and polished [for me] Being a Jazzer at heart, anything that leans that way always tends to draw me in a some point. Great stuff Mike. Garry
Does that mean you can use samples that come with your software package i.e drum loops, electric piano chords etc?
They usually come as Royalty free, to do as you want with. Some [but not often] ask you to give them a credit on any work you do. But as said above just check the license agreement if not sure. Garry

Shall I sweep the floor with my a*se whilst I play bass?
lowdown replied to tonyclaret's topic in General Discussion
I'm wondering if the stipulation of 4 rehearsals is more a reflection of the band's confidence in themselves than in a dep bassist.
This for me. Any regular depping Bassist would know those tunes, and more than likely not need one rehearsal. The problem then is the 50 squids - if it's booked a few weeks in advance, the chances are another much better paying gig would come in and they are back to square one and in a panic - so i kinda see their point, get someone not so good who will rehearse and not run away if a better paying gig comes along. On another note, a bands promo website should really be selling them - a polished product....not sh*tty rehearsal videos. Garry -
fixed
Not exactly a "The Dorchester" or a "Mercedes" weekend gig in Monte Carlo function set list. Garry -
Just do your homework, and your ears will do the rest if there is no charts. Half my musical life has been depping - you would be amazed at what you walk into sometimes. Many a time i have known the tunes better than the band [well at least the correct chord changes] Don't worry, don't panic and just enjoy yourself. Good luck. Garry
Had a one hour window of opportunity to pen the lyrics, record it and make a start on the washing up.
Don't you mean the "Mother Fecking Washing Up" Garry
