2.
It is a very melodic 'head' but I can not remember the name , only can hum it !
Always a sign of a good tune. Some early Fretless from his younger years - The solo in the middle is a nice easy laid back affair [02.50] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W57v0t29_gw Garry
 3. Big MM fan, so will follow this thread with interest... Garry

 5.
I think he and Peter Hook should both be chucked down a well together
Nice thought - But all the wells are full up with Banjo & Viola players. Garry
 6.
How about this for an idea then....... Instead of doing a mix where every track is already there, do vocals, drums, guitar etc and leave the bass off. Were all bass players and could get some intesting different bass lines. Everyone who can mix should be able to lay a bass track down too
How about this for an idea then...... Why not add a tune/Instruments/harmony to your Bass line you laid down............................ And then enter the Composing Comp.... Sorry...... I think Si gave a good run down of what the comp is all about - although reading the posts, i can see where everyone is coming from, and BRX's first post had crossed my mind. Voted. Garry
 7.
So I've learnt the songs as best I can,
It's a bit late in the day i know - but learn them better than that. Know them inside out. It shows that you are prepared to put the time in. Homework is always a good sign. + a lot had already been said above. Good luck, relax and enjoy.
 8.
I could only remember the quote, not who actually said it...
If you like that one, you might find some of his other quotes amusing. A few here.... http://thinkexist.com/quotes/sir_thomas_beecham/ http://blog.gaiam.co...-thomas-beecham http://www.brainyquo...as_beecham.html Garry
 9.
Sort of 70s, sort of funk, but not obvious, "East River" by the Brecker Brothers...
Wey Hey - I love that tune. Not sure it's up the Strasse of a pissed up postman pat down the dog and f#5k on a Friday night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7l1zjp_wb4 Garry
 10.
Probably just me, but it's more logical and user friendly. I did a course a few years ago to get to understand Cubase, and still couldn't after 3 months. Logic and Garageband I picked up with no tuition, though I do use at Logic Pro at music college now. Garagband is basically a much stripped down version of Logic, but it does share some of the same instruments. Also if you decided that you wanted to get into recording and production more, then you're able to easily transfer ideas from Garageband on your Ipad into Logic on a laptop or iMac. Just me I guess, but it just makes more sense.
Sorry deleted my post.... I was talking about on the iPad [as OP] Cubasis on iPad has a lot going for it [and you can transfer as well] much more Audio & Midi tracks than Garageband [now't wrong with Garageband] With the Apogee jam, there is no MIDI in and out. Of course the RME UCX is great [ I did say starts to get expensive regarding the Alesis] but you are talking about a lot more dosh, if you need the extra in's & outs. The Alesis does more than a good job for iPad for home recording and practise - and more importantly it's stable. Garry
 11. Great stuff dude..! Well thought out arrangement, rather than just thrashing out for five minutes. Really good playing all round, no passengers, everyone doing their bit. Garry
 12. If you want to do it properly - it' starts to get expensive. Alesis i/o dock. http://www.alesis.com/iodock http://www.maplin.co.uk/alesis-io-dock-588940?_$ja=kw:alesis+io+dock|cgn:Product%7c%7cTablets%7c%7cAlesis+io+dock%7c%7cN36nk|cgid:5107437269|tsid:45627|cn:Computing%7c%7cProduct|cid:112182149|lid:27306797839|mt:Broad|nw:search|crid:17384260709&gclid=CMaWmamR77QCFQ7LtAod4EMAGw Recording wise, two very good apps, both about £35.00 If you want more virtual instruments. Cubasis http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/ios_apps/cubasis.html Or the Auria http://auriaapp.com/Products/auria Garry
 13. My link to the take on the picture for this month. http://soundcloud.com/garrycribb/sultans-mystery Garry
 14.
Orchestra conductor to cellist: [sub]this may be apocryphal[/sub]
I like to think of Sir Thomas Beecham as more than just 'Orchestra conductor'.... He just came up with so many funny, funny quotes. One of the best for silver tongued acid humour. Garry
 15.
Fair call. But the bass is definitely the icing on the cake!
Yep, nice and punchy. Garry
 16.
Another great sixties track which was made by the bassline (IMO)
We all hear it differently i suppose. For me [apart from a great tune and hook] it was the superb arrangement and great playing all round. Top song. Garry
 17. Not so much wisdom, but musicians humour. 'Can I have the strings in my cans a bit earlier' - UK session Drummer Clem Cattini. Garry
 18. Another one here for the Roland Quad Capture - very solid while working at very low latency. The MIDI drivers are very stable and plenty of audio signal going in to. Garry
 19. 'Wise Musicians are those who play what they can master' - Duke Ellington 'How do i get to the Festival Hall ?' - A cellist 'Practise ' - A tramp at Waterloo Station Garry
 20. No real point in anyone winning this month then.... Only kidding - off to have a listen. Garry
 21. There's no sound on those links, no idea what they sound like. Pics look good though. Garry
 22.
Now all I need to do is buy Stylus and I'm sorted
Make sure you check out the demo's - Sound wise they will knock you out. http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/stylusrmx-audio.php You can also use Rex files in RMX - It comes with a converter for this. There are hundreds of free REX files on the net that kind folk upload. And dozens of RMX expansion libraries that are of a reasonable price. Garry And of course plenty of stuff on YouTube.
 23. 'Do you know Giant Steps ?' 'What the Coltrane tune ?' 'No the Police song' 'Giant steps are what you take' Garry
 24.
Look out for some news on Notion 4 soon. We are going to be having a look at it on the blog!
I hope it's not a discount - I just purchased and downloaded a few days ago.. Must say that it is great, very easy to use and the bundled sounds are very usable [Orchestral, Jazz and Rock] Easy to import Sibelius and Finale files using Music XML files with good results, leaving all the articulations intact. Nice clean PDF export as well. Has Sequencer style MIDI underlay, so you can do velocity style editing. You can also import Audio files into the project, and export the score as an Audio file as well as MIDI or XML. With Sibelius being up in the air at the moment after the takeover, i just went for it. Garry
 25. Great stuff... But after that intro,I bet all the Snakes have left their baskets and done a runner. Garry
