1. Another one here for the Roland Quad Capture - very solid while working at very low latency. The MIDI drivers are very stable and plenty of audio signal going in to. Garry
2. 'Wise Musicians are those who play what they can master' - Duke Ellington 'How do i get to the Festival Hall ?' - A cellist 'Practise ' - A tramp at Waterloo Station Garry
3. No real point in anyone winning this month then.... Only kidding - off to have a listen. Garry
4. There's no sound on those links, no idea what they sound like. Pics look good though. Garry
5.
Now all I need to do is buy Stylus and I'm sorted
Make sure you check out the demo's - Sound wise they will knock you out. http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/stylusrmx-audio.php You can also use Rex files in RMX - It comes with a converter for this. There are hundreds of free REX files on the net that kind folk upload. And dozens of RMX expansion libraries that are of a reasonable price. Garry And of course plenty of stuff on YouTube.
6. 'Do you know Giant Steps ?' 'What the Coltrane tune ?' 'No the Police song' 'Giant steps are what you take' Garry
7.
Look out for some news on Notion 4 soon. We are going to be having a look at it on the blog!
I hope it's not a discount - I just purchased and downloaded a few days ago.. Must say that it is great, very easy to use and the bundled sounds are very usable [Orchestral, Jazz and Rock] Easy to import Sibelius and Finale files using Music XML files with good results, leaving all the articulations intact. Nice clean PDF export as well. Has Sequencer style MIDI underlay, so you can do velocity style editing. You can also import Audio files into the project, and export the score as an Audio file as well as MIDI or XML. With Sibelius being up in the air at the moment after the takeover, i just went for it. Garry
8. Great stuff... But after that intro,I bet all the Snakes have left their baskets and done a runner. Garry
9.
'What Lies Beneath' http://soundcloud.co...at-lies-beneath
I like that Mike - Interesting sounds as well. Fits the picture nicely. Omnisphere is great, and not really that expensive for what's available in it. Have you had a look at Stylus RMX from the same company ? Grooves/Loops and beats ranging from straight Kits,Cinematic, huge Percussion right through to Insane out there mangles. Hundreds of add on expansions for it - worth a look. They both have eight outputs, so if you set up a project template with just those two Synths, You have Sixteen MIDI channels to play with, great for messing around for ideas. Garry
10. If you want to go to £83.00 [download price] new kid on the block 'Notion 4' It comes with a very nice sample library - And all the Instruments are mapped out to staffs, so no setting up. It is very easy to use and has Jazz fonts as well as all the usual engraving fonts. All dynamic and articulation markings are mapped to the samples, so you will get a great idea of how it will really sound. Especially useful on Orchestral or Big Band arranging. I have been using Sibelius up until now, but not sure where future upgrades are going now that the London office has been shut down. 11. I would not put the score to 'West Side Story' towards the worst in Music, opinions of course. Although i have spent most of my Musical career playing on shows, which has always been a good time, I find it impossible to watch them, Theatre or on film. Garry
12. Just a case of cloning tracks these days [if you want to go down that route, now that tape is very little used] Better recording to two tracks at once, one DI'ed and one using a mic. Garry
13. Top album - with all those early albums, he managed to bring something new to the table each time. Garry
14. Some good reading here, although aimed at general broadcast levels. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/post-production-forum/107770-film-broadcast-levels.html EBU recommended levels. http://tech.ebu.ch/docs/r/r128.pdf Of course, for just slinging stuff up on SoundCloud, no fecking use what so ever.... Garry
15. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding on K-Metering set up in this thread. Some folk using it [or intending to] might find it useful to go over the to website of Bob Katz. It is reasonably involved to work correctly if you don't know what you are doing [and i did not] I had a friend set it up for me - And i remember it involved downloading pink noise files, and monitor calibration. But i ain't no sound engineer, so might be talking bollox. Garry
16. I also use Predator for most of my Bass Synth stuff [mainly because it has a huge preset collection] Two good [free] Synths that are good for Bass. Charlatan 32 & 64 bit. http://www.kvraudio....ic.php?t=325499 And this one...Bassimo [ only x32, but i have never had a problem using it bit bridged] It's quite simple and basic, but a lot of good sounds can be manipulated from it. A short operation video and download here. http://myvst.com/vst...48-bassimo-free Garry

18.
Quite what? Or do you mean quiet?
Not sure why i was quoting you - It seems you were just the roadie for lurksalot. Garry
19.
Quite what? Or do you mean quiet?
Quite quiet.... My phone rang right in the middle of me typing the message... Garry
20.
Lets see if this works
That track is really quite quiet. Edit. Garry
21. Vintage one on da Bay as we speak. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970s-Japan-built-CSL-Jazz-Bass-Guitar-made-by-Ibanez-/221175574666?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item337f17708a Garry
22. Good stuff - The Video looked like it was a right hoot to be involved with. Kit has a good voice, good luck with it all. Garry
23.
Is this one of the ones in this years KVR developer challenge?
I believe it was - And i think it came second. Garry
24.
box.com
Wish i knew about that when i was single. Garry
25.
If you want it only for volume notching you may find it difficult to use.
The one i use [link in my first post] was the best one i tried regarding this, The LED markers can get you somewhere close. but you are right, it is a difficult operation. For pit /show work it helps for deps comming in with marked dynamic levels on various cues, you can mark on the part/score the LED number and it helps them get somewhere close on their first couple of shows, until they get used to the general band levels.
