1. I can see your point, it worked for Big Daddy. Shirley Crabtree Jr Garry
 2.
+1
And another +1. Also Bright Size Life for both Jaco & Metheny. Garry
 3.
Back when I started out there was no Internet forums ( Jasus I feel old now ) the only way to meet other musicians was at clubs and gigs and hope somewhere you might get a spot to play. Open mic nights where great My first gig came from a friend of mine, his dad played in a wedding band and I sat in for the bass player, I was 14 and was pretty sh1t. But word got around and by 16 I was gigging by 19 I was touring and by 23 I was driving a new car and living in my first new house. If its what you want you will find a way or it will find you. A lot is luck a lot is on that list and a lot is hard work.
Good grief, pretty much me summed up [with Music collage thrown in] You don't just walk into [Recording] sessions from scratch. Over time you get to meet MD's/Fixers/Supervisors - All the people that really count. Getting on dep lists for shows is a great thing to do, that will lead to you getting calls for your own show, Dep that out for other gigs/functions/recordings/tours, a good way to get to know other full time working Musicians/Bassists. The term 'Session Musician' is now the sort of thing you would hear from some pissed bloke in the pub............. 'Are you one of those Sessioneers?'....Lol........... Freelance/Freelance Musician is more apt these days, a bit of everything is involved [playing wise] Good reading chops, good ears and the ability to learn things fast are a must. The days of doing three MU rate three hour [plus overtime] sessions a day are well gone [In the UK anyway] Good luck with it all - It's worth it in the end. Garry
 4. Wey Hey - Great stuff ! Nicely articulated. Garry
 5. Yep, very sad. Very solid player in Elton's band. Garry
 6. Killer groove on this track - To be honest with all the ins and outs going on, its the sort of track that would be played slightly different each time. Its a great set of changes to player over, and its just Chuck R knowing his way around them like top player he is. Love the Piano intro chords, I also think its got a great hook to. A band I play with from time to time does this number, and i don't think I have never played the same thing twice. Do your own thing. Garry
 7. Well not quite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkcoHCnHI_M&feature=youtu.be Garry
 8. Judging by your good feedback list - they will BOTH be up for sale by Friday. Keep them both. Garry
 9. Be Bop Deluxe - I did like that band. Thanks for the reminder - off to Youtube. Garry

 11. One of my Lads is into everything but Bass at the moment. My wife said these are my two faces [Is she saying i am two faced ] Garry
 12.
Fixed. Thanks for the help Garry.
No problems. Back to your OP - Yep i found it strange that the album was not released. Garry
 13. Just copy and paste the address from Youtube straight into your post. I think you are allowed two videos in each post. Garry
 14. Do you mean this ? If so great stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htW4OPrqSQ4 Garry
 15. I said you would be fine, well done dude. Ella tunes badly arranged - that sounds like the norm When you hit the EB next, it will feel like you are playing cotton wool. Garry
 16.
Pre gig nerves never really get me. I sometimes wish they did. I think it'd give me a much needed boost up the arse! Day two in the woodshed: Half of the set is kind of cool. Half of my prep time has gone. I think that's kinda alright? Tomorrow I've got a rehearsal (not for this gig unfortunately - No rehearsal is being had for this one at all!) so will be against the clock then to get the db out when back in the house after the other rehearsal. I may take the db to the rehearsal just so I'm getting my hours up on the thing.
Go for It. I was in the same position some time ago. I had about three/four weeks to get it together. Although i did know all the tunes anyway [Medium Jazz Swing/Bossa's] it meant just concentrating On fingerings and Intonation. It was for an old dears end of Pier tea dance, So two in the bar all the way. It went ok and nobody died [not in the band anyway] Down side - I ended up doing every Wednesday afternoon for three months......... On an end of Pier tea dance for the old dears. Good luck, i am sure you will be fine. Garry
 17.
We didn't take it seriously, didn't expect anything and weren't disappointed

Nailed it!

we're really excited to be a part of it and it's something that's been sorely needed for a while.
I know the music business changes quickly......... but feck me, 30 hours ! These things always seem like a good Idea, but quite often just end up in the cyber skip. Hope it works out for you. Garry
 18.
just having an audacity moment and recording some old vinyl after clearing out the attic
Fantastic ! Post of the week [although it's only Monday] Garry
 19. Hey Ben - Thanks for this ! Great chart, and nice and clean. I love this track. Domo Arigato[u] Garry
 20. Bert Bacharach still conducting/MD'ing at his 70th birthday concert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kgw9alJBWI Garry
 21.
(I know this isnt a Bacharach love fest but what the hell)
Agreed I wish i could have a Burt Bacharach moment, the man is a song writing genius. [From the same film] Garry
 22.
This is the G&L Tribute L2000 that i just traded. Had to wait about 3 weeks for the new DR strings to lose their zippiness. Grabbed a midi file of Grover Washington Jnr track, Just The Two of Us, and played along to the keys and drums part. Only for a minute or so... http://soundcloud.co...wo-of-us-grover
The G&L sounds nice, always liked the sound of them [made a mistake in selling mine] I think the notes in the bridge section should be semitones descending from the Db, [That's what Marcus plays on the original] Tenths work nicely. Good stuff though. Garry
 23.
It's possible they both came up with it separately. Fender used to fit a tug bar to their basses, you'd hook your fingers under it and play the strings with your thumb. It's not such a big step to slap the strings occasionally, particularly since players have been doing it on upright basses for years.
I believe Colin Hodgkinson was also doing it about the same time as well. Garry
 24. They both have got different styles, and both great and on it. LJ's playing at the time he was working with Quincy Jones was just killer. LJ was more than just thunder thumbs. He had great tight finger style tone as well. [Oh well he has a slap up in the middle section ] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EvWkUuALGg Garry
 25.
Wouldnt want to split hairs, nor argue with wikipedia... which is always right But I clearly remember hearing Cyndi Lauper being interviewed on the radio, on a Saturday afternoon when the single was current. and stating how much she dug the Roy Orbison track, and reasons why she covered it etc etc Orbison was a little bit out of fashion at the time I think..
Well she must have heard it somewhere, but Orbison's version was released in the early 90's. Don't know about Wiki - but Disc dogs...which is always right.. Says................ http://www.discogs.com/Roy-Orbison-I-Drove-All-Night/release/949041# Both good versions IMO. Garry
