1. Root - Octave has always worked a treat. Bach liked to trip out with his Bass lines.
 2.
like i said, disco 2000
Oh dear, for a moment i thought Disco 2000 was going Into Gloria. Garry
 3.
I just bought the boxset on eBay. Brand new delivered from Irvine, California. Cost? £24.97 with free delivery -result!!! Here's a link to the seller: http://www.ebay.co.u...redirect=mobile
Good stuff Kevin - Thanks for the link. Garry
 4.
have we had 'stand by me' yet?
Not sure - but has to be a bump for it. Someone has put Nine to Five - It's just a few Bars of pumping 8's on one note, with an ascending 3 note chromatic line up to the target note. Not even Dolly would get that.... Garry

 6.
Although I was kind of hoping this thread would 't go into all this, I can't help but comment, having rather made a study of Jamerson and, to a lesser extent, Bob Babbit to play in my Motown band. There are habits and styles which, to me, clearly define these. I Was Made to Love Her is absolutely typical Jamerson, the slightly loose timing, slightly different each time, root for first beat and semi ad-lib there after, some ponderous gaps (listed to 'Once In My Life too') and a groove. Bob is a fine bass player, even if revered still under-estimated in my opinion. However he is way more disciplined than Jamerson and repeats will be just that. Listen to the 'UK' version of Tears of a Clown (and spot the mistake!). This and Signed Sealed are kind of Babbit signature tracks to me. I feel Jamerson plays with more finesse but Bob more solid. Carol plays with a pick, is probably more disciplined than either but, in my opinion, is more score orientated and, also in my opinion, plays with less of a groove, probably as a result, and sounds totally different to either Bob or Jamerson. I find it impossible to believe it's her playing on I Was Made To Love Her. She may well have played on versions of it etc but it will take a lot to convince me it's her on the track.
That's pretty much the way I view it all. But the more and more stories that seem to appear over the years still makes for Interesting reading, and listening. I suppose it all adds to the magic of it all. Garry
 7.
Any new technique can take a while to learn, and waaaaaaaayyyyyy longer to master. To play slap proficiently (I'm still no master) I find that I have to relax. Don't push it, just keep practicing and one day you'll have a "wow, that sounded pretty darn good" moment, so have a really wide grin at the ready. Also, as a beginner I would heartily recommend taking it slow and concentrating on getting the notes clean (2nd most important thing in slap playing) and IN TIME (single most important thing when playing slap bass) - so I'd go for a metronome every time. Slap bass technique can sometimes get a bit of a flaming on here, but if you're excited by the technique, and you really like the sound then go for it - don't feel that you shouldn't learn to slap, or that you are less of a 'musician' for slapping, because some internet people that you've never met tell you it's wrong.
The rule of thumb - and well Slapped that man ! Garry
 8.
It's that "Powerslave" album again.....
I just had to go and Google that.... Garry
 9.
She's friendly too, and has been gracious enough to reply to an e-mail with info on some songs she played on. Legend.
She replied to a couple of my Emails also. A very acid witted person and a top top player. There seems to be more and more [Google] Info popping up these days regarding the LA scoring stage Musician from that golden age. Max Bennett is worth checking out, seems he did his bit as well... 10. That Pilot track is still a fave of mine. This track for me, I was at Music Collage and had to take it down [It got in the way of drinking, and took me ages] And it also hit me that there was more to Disco than four to the floor and Pee souping. Another one for playing/arranging and harmony that I loved. Garry

 14. On the Conductors head - No reason other than it's fun. But not being speedily mobile, I am usually last in the queue. Hat side if possible [Unless the Drummer is a south paw] Garry
 15. That ain't high for me - more like a low action... Garry

 17.
Stevie Wonder on harmonica - instantly recognisable.
Yes of course - also on many films from the 60/70/80's Toots Thielemans is always lurking On some Music cue. Garry
 18. Apart from the many Bass players, David Sanborn and Dave Grusin for me, George Benson as well. Grusin for his notes and style, and Sanborn for his sound and old school R&B licks. Garry

 20.
Yes that's probably what it was called, I'm talking about early 1990s, I remember it was out of town on the way up East I think. Used to go & watch big screen sports at weekends with platters of burgers & ice cold beers, it was a hard job I've got some old maps & stuff I'll dig out. Have you been there?
If it is the same place [and it does sound like it] Yes in 1992. Garry
 21.
Dirty Reid's cafe
Is that the same place as the Old Durty Reid's Palace ? I think it got knocked down, or something rebuilt there. Sounds like fun with the sharks though. Garry
 22. Just a heads up for any one Interested. Had and Email from a very good Guitarist friend of mine who lives down in Brighton. I have done many many gigs and sessions with him over the years - and he is superb and well worth a listen. His new band has Guy on Bass - so if you are local get yourself down there if you fancy a good night.
