1.
12&4 going down, 3 going up.
Me to.. Danny Elfman & Homer like the Tritone Paradox. Garry
2.
Stravinsky was a big fan, plus everyone and anyone who came after him and took great influence from him. Leonard Bernstein, John Williams spring to mind.
Dominant 7th chord, minor 7th b5 chord, 7th b9 chord, and others. You hear these intervals all the time these days, well in Jazz and Cinematic film scores based on the big Symphony Orchestras, and of course wrong notes in Pub Rock Bands... Garry
3. Another vote for "Four Corners", great stuff. And of course you can't leave out the very first album "YellowJackets" Garry
4. Thanks for the link Laimis, good stuff. Garry
5. Dean Markley Mistfits [Skullbusters] 46/66/86/106/135 on my fretted and fretless. Although i have a high tight action they still sing out well, and they are still good on the old slap thing when needed. Garry
6. Presonus Studio one version 2 - its free, plenty of features, and if she wants to take it serious a good upgrade path for the three versions available. Totally gapless Audio and it really is the easiest DAW on the planet to learn - up and running in minutes. Everything is drag and drop. Incredibly stable as well. 7.
the author of that article needs to re educate himself musically
Has Anna Conrad had a sex change ? Sorry... Garry
8.
Walk on the wild side has a memorable "Walking" bassline?
Made me laugh to - Although it has a funky swing vibe about it, top stuff. Garry
9. Fever, including some of the other versions. Even played solo, just about everyone in the universe knows what it is, apart from Anna Conrad of course. To many for me to list. Garry
10. iLok account is just for storing licenses - nothing more or nothing less. From a $20.00 plug in to $2000.00 top end Orchestral sample library. You can transfer licenses between accounts, insure your software against theft or loss. Garry
11.
Also, if you're running your DAW on a laptop and need USB sockets then you could always get a hub - cheap as chips.
Yep, Hubs work fine for keys/dongles but not so good [sometimes] for running Audio interfaces. Garry
12. I have a Steinberg/Syncrosoft key for Nuendo 5.5 and an iLok account for a lot of other stuff. Both will take many licenses. [iLok over five hundred i think] If you run your DAW from a Laptop, i can understand some folk having a moan about using two USB ports for keys/dongles, but on a desktop with eight USB ports it's not a problem. Also with Steinberg/Syncrosoft you can transfer your licenses. Garry
13. What about Quincy Jones grooving out on Handel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkbuHu2D_Ro Garry
14. Mini Moog VSTi will be free for one day only on JUNE 21st. http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/products/minimoogv/minimoogv-original.html Garry
15.
head straight for the bar
And if the Bar is closed - hold your stomach in and look for the dancers. Garry
16. You are a real Musician When...... You're not a Drummer. Garry
17. Just been listening again to this album this morning. There is some fantastic arranging and Orchestrating going on. It seems there was amazing input from all involved. Garry
18. I know what you mean by it 'swings', and it does. Quincy Jones and his boys were 'on it' back in the days. I read somewhere that QJ thought 'Off the Wall' was a better album than 'Thriller' in his opinion. Garry
19.
It needs something playing 16ths whether it's the hi hat or maracas or wee shakey egg or something to bring the rhythm together.
That's the problem with the OP video. That type of groove is just not about 16th's, it's about 16th's that swing. The whole band have trouble with that - they are more square than square [or their version of that tune is] Or possibly it's just their [to fast] take on it. Garry
20. Are you sure it's not just the room & ambience mic ? Two sliders on the right of the interface. The help menu or Youtube has a lot of good tips. Garry
21.
try to work out the harmony of tunes using your ears and cunning. Be able to hear music as well as you see it on paper. Better even.
All very important stuff this, added with learning to sight read. Chops will always move along with your own requirements and needs in the early years [with regular practise and a good teacher] But many Musicians, which includes a lot of Bassists - leave their ears behind. Garry
22. Ok - i will help out. As long as you are not offering a Cruise gig as a prize. One of my Cruise ship jaunts cost me a lot of money, a wife and two kids. [not complaining though] Edit - I mean i ended up with a wife and two kids, and no money.... Well i was on 'The Love Boat' i should have expected it ! Garry

24. To be honest, that Video is nearly 20 years old - show boating is part of youth. Musical maturity don't slow you down - old age does jj1234, well played mate. Garry
25.
Whilst we're on the subject of Michael Manring, marvel at this cover of Pat Metheny's 'Bright Size Life', surely the best version of the song I have ever heard.:
I do like this version, but i find it a bit messy compared to the original. MM plays great though. Garry
