1.
I've read the book and listened to the music... He seems to be in the right place at the right time and obviously is the sort of chap you like to hang out with, there's nothing wrong with that... I quite like this bass-line..
Seems to me like he always brings something to the party. Be it humour or Musicianship. Garry
 2.
" She's lying" haha! And I thought it was Nail's old mates from Newcastle that played that! As featured (mimed) on TOTP's. In that case, Guy Pratt more than cuts the mustard for me. Great stuff. Busy watching Pink Floyd 'Delicate sound of thunder" on youtube. Hard work! but Pratt's tone and execution are very impressive. thanks
Plenty here mate - take your pick. 3.
Can someone please point me to a couple of track that show Guy Pratt at his best? 4.
I don't get the James Taylor thing. Americans love that brand of mush.
I think with over 40 years worth of World wide sales & tours, It's likely that its more than an American thing. Written some top stuff for himself & others, and has used some tremendous Musicians live & in the Studio. Just my opinion of course. Garry
 5.
but it is a studio session and not a love show.
Yep..... Great stuff all round dude. Garry

 10.
Very nice! But why do people not include their heads in these playing vids?
Why ? Are you looking for on line Luuurv.. Very nice - playing that is. Garry
 11. I have done quite a few Big bands [ i am assuming you mean Jazz big band] Be prepared, to read dots a lot [to start with] Chords for the walking lines [so be prepared to ad lib lines], and there can be a lot of chord changes and substitutions, Fast swing written in cut common, latin and funk charts. You need to be all ears and eyes. You will need to be aware of key changes, coda's and round and round sections for soloists. Concentration, focus & discipline are the name of the game. Enjoy, it can be a great thrill. Garry
 12.
Nice spot Garry... although I was just looking froward to the Christian McBride solo
Yep, looks like someone chickened out... A Paul Chambers nice & relaxed solo here [scrolling] on 'I can't give you anything but lurvve' Garry

 14. Sorry, wrong area. Please delete mods. Garry
 15.
+1 for this, what an immense bassline on that track. I do believe that Chuck also contributed a number of tracks to the 'Nightfly' album by Donald Fagen, along with Marcus Miller and other luminaries.
Yep, he [they] did, along with Anthony Jackson & Will Lee. A superb album - very surprised it does not get much [if ever] mentioned here on Basschat. Garry
 16.
even twats like me get given peoples time
You are not a twat - the fact that you have taken the time to think about 'Theory', elevates you above twat. Learn some theory and leave the rest of your band looking like twats.. Garry
 17. I have seen him do his routine - great fun. Enjoy. Garry
 18. Before you go down the route of new DI boxes, mic's, stomp boxes, FX racks, re arranging the house and SSL desks, try changing the Strings first, much cheaper. The natural decay as you go up the neck on the D & g strings seems quite short and dead. [to me] I had this problem a few years ago when for some reason i was using lighter gauge strings and a lower action. Low action is not always desirable on Fretless, the higher notes won't sing out, and the low notes run into each other. [ Different for each player, and Bass set up of course ] I went back to cable gauge and all was fine again. Garry
 19.
I don't know who did the TV show
Carol Kaye. Garry
 20.
I'd strongly advise buying 'The Royal Scam' and 'Aja' by Steely Dan and listening to his playing on these albums.
And not just for the Bass playing. Great albums all round, with some fantastic writing. Garry
 21.
Maybe it was CR on the film and CK on the TV series?
Just been reading a few interviews and stuff on tinternet with CK. She keeps talking about her playing Bass on 'Mash' the TV dates, and no mention of the film, and also at a Bass clinic sometime ago, CR said he played on the Mash theme. So you may well have a point. To confuse matters, there seems to be two different Mash TV versions knocking about. And both sound very different in styles... Garry
 22.
Isn't Chuck playing the MASH theme?
I am afraid its another Carol Kaye v's Someone else. Carol Kaye says she was with the Wrecking Crew at the time and played Bass, But i read somewhere that Johnny Mandel [co writer] said it was CR. So who knows..... Talking of the Wrecking Crew. A clip from the film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-xs2kJn6PBE#! Garry
 23. CR played on a lot of 70's Film/TV themes that are worth checking out. A couple from Quincy Jones here.
