1.
I've used Steve as Dep a few times..... he is a stunning keys player. I remember the first time he played.... he turned up with this proper rubbish monitoring set up... and I thought oh god... but he absolutely blew me away with his playing and also his insight into using the correct settings for what was required on short notice.
Yer he is a great player, i used to work with him quite a lot on various things. But i have not seen him for about 5 years. Although he did contact me through linkedin not so long back. Quite a CV has Steve. [And quite a set of listening ears as well] http://www.myspace.com/steveturnerkeys Garry
 2.
"James, Andrew, Chris and Steve". I've checked Steve Lewison's credits, but he didnt seem to play on this.
A keyboard player i worked with a few times was MD and played keys for her on a few tours. His name was Steve Turner - so that might be the 'Steve' Yep, some good Synth/E Bass on the videos. Garry
 3.
This is one of my favourite Jamerson bass lines:
Great track... Just been reading some history with that track [urban myth has it that Stevie Wonder played kit on it] And the Detroit Spinners were called just 'The Spinners' before they left Motown. It was changed so as not to get confused with an English folk group called 'The Spinners' Garry
 4. The Sounds of Philadelphia or Philly sound. Some great tunes and superb Orchestrations & playing all round. The stable was a bit like the Motown label, with their own bunch of players most of the time [MSFB] Ronald Baker played Bass on loads of the stuff. Garry
 5. If you are having trouble writing it down Matt, Maybe play it into your DAW [even at the slowest speed you are comfortable with] And save as a midi file - that way its saved [Tempo matters not] You can then import the Midi file into any notation software [there are a couple of free one's out there] And it's then in dot form for you to see, and take in. Garry
 6.
I recently found a bunch of resources on the Philharmonia Orchestra website that might also prove handy: http://philharmonia....nge/make_music/
I have been using that site for a couple of years, some useful info there. Managed to get along to some of their free concerts & rehearsals. The samples are only Mp3, but some are very usable when layered with your own samples. Remix page is good fun with their on-line sequencer. Garry
 7. Scales/Intervals/Chord Cycles, related modes/ key sig's. Its all here on one page. The keyboard on the left hand side changes the key. Enjoy. 8.
*you're
the one that I want....... ooh ooh ooh...... Garry
 9.
WOw, thanks for the link, Garry, that Brecker solo is just out of control... And, is that Johnny P on bass? Really cool eitherway... Laimis
Hey Laimis. Complete Musician breakdown here. http://www.grusin.net/west_side_story.htm If you can find 'America' from the same album on Youtube - give it a listen, stonking stuff. John Patitucci swings great on this album. Well worth buying/Downloading. Garry
 10.
West Side Story. It is a masterpiece, a triumph of 20th century music from one of the greatest musical minds of all time as far as I'm concerned!
Have you listened to Dave Grusin's version/Album of West Side story ? Top arranging and playing all round. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xonj84qRk4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GrTr6KHkdo&feature=related Garry
 11.
How do you know him?
I would not say i know him - although i did meet him a few times. I used to spend a lot of time [quite a while back] up in Newcastle. Used to stay with a Guitarist called Paul Carr. So had many drink ups with a lot of the guys that were at Newcastle collage at the time - usually in 'Rockshots' and the 'Broken Doll' Garry
 12.
Is West Side Story not a musical these days?!
Hey Matt - any relation to Ken Potter ? Garry
 13.
2) Stupid time/key signatures WILL appear and you WILL sh!t yourself...
Not in Fame. West Side story - Maybe Garry
 14. Found a great site for full Orchestral sounds. They are in Sound Font format [Audio files] You will need a Sound font VST player to play them. 15. Can i give the Roland Octacapture a mention. It's about a ton above your budjet though. It is incredibly stable, and works at really really low latency with no problems, also zero latency hardwear monitoring. 16.
not being a synth exp but form my experience of previously owning a roland super jd it does sound like some of the fretless and acoustic bass patches in the roland. my ears (and the technology timeline) would suggest synth but my fingers are saying strings
I am sure someone will come along who knows for sure. The double stops and shakes do sound like mod wheel & pitch bends though. Garry
 17.
http://allmusic.com/...2093703/credits
Oh well - i got that wrong.. Although it does sound like the DX7 Fretless Bass patch, The same one as 'Take My Breath away' - Berlin. And just about every Pub Duo using Backing tracks. Garry
 18. I have just been listening to that.Great Tune. It sounds like Keyboard Bass, Garry

 21. If you are after some Dance type ducking/Sidechaining or over the top rhythmic gating effect. This little freebie is just fantastic. You can pencil the gating patterns in by hand. Pretty much any Rhythm you want or can think of. Info here - http://www.araldfx.com/sg1/ Download Here - http://www.araldfx.com/downloads.php Enjoy Garry
 22.
Play, play some more and play again! By far the best way to exercise the hand and build up stamina and dexterity is to simply play. It's all about muscle memory and repetition is the key.
This above for me. Throw in something musical why you are doing it, thus helping with ear training, and it becomes enjoyable even more. I agree with JH. Garry
 23.
The recording... LOL, I just noodled around on a blues for ages, 1 take, no prisoners taken so warts and all.
Hey Jake, nice sound on the Bass. The natural decay of the instrument is lovely and it sounds like its not set up silly and very low, action wise. Nice full and articulate sound. Solid consistent intonation makes it much easier to listen to solo Bass for six minutes.... Garry
 24. Yep another one here to hear some harmony. Good stuff though dude. Looks like i live just up the road from you [Canvey] Garry
 25.
unless I was going to take up tap dancing, is just used for low bass notes on hold. I do find that it is safer to play in socks as there is more chance of accuracy. With shoes on - unless they were winkle pickers - I just end up triggering the wrong note.
So you are saying that you play a Synth with your feet ? Garry
