1. I see this post is going well! Good prize as well. Garry
  2.
A new one to me. Pianist Eugene Maslov is a fiery player but the record is astonishing. Boris Koslov is the bass player and he is so on the money - I have never heard of him but WOW!!!!!. Think Michel Camilo and Anthony Jackson and then some!! Highly recommended.
Boris Koslov is a serious player.... Eugene Maslov aint arf bad himself. Great stuff.. Garry
  3.
Reminded me of HS too at first, but the longer I listened, the more I realised that she leaves that one-note honker drowning in her wake. Next to Dorsey, HS sounds like bleedin' foghorn. What a range!
Fantastic...... I could not agree more... GAD is superb. Garry
  4.
The tannoys are probably the best of the bunch you mention. But for just a little more you could get Adam A7s or Dynaudio BM5a which are a BIG step up from the ones you mention. As mentioned above dont leave room treatment out of the equation. You can buy a big bag of rockwool from Wickes and make some DIY panels for about £50. (believe me, it'll be the best 50 you ever spend.)
Big +1 for the Adam A7'S.A bit more above your budget, and as mentioned above..a step up. And the rockwool panels a must.Just google anything on home studios and there is plenty of Info on putting panels together. Its not hard at all. Garry
  5.
Loving the Brothers Johnson - been really digging 'Stomp!' recently. Massive tune. On a similar note, one of my favourites is Louis Johnson's line in 'Get on the Floor'
Yep, he is right on the nail with that groove. And another great Quincy Jones production. Garry

    Free VSTs
The folder you're looking for is probably something along the lines of C/Program files/Acid pro/VSTs then, assuming its installed on drive C on your PC. Cheers.
Or sometimes there is C/Programme files/Steinberg/VST's,or C/programmes/VST'S, and then you have to set the path within Acid Pro to scan, Pointing towards that folder. You had to do that with the older versions of Acid. The newer versions have a VST folder within the Sony/Acid folder. I do remember last year some time that there was a post started for free VST'S.Quite a few links within that. Garry
  7. Not sure what the best slap groove is. But Louis Johnson on 'Aint we Funkin now' is a great groove. A greasy funky 70's Stingray in all it's glory.... And as someone above said...all that Marcus stuff from LV. Garry
I use Acid Pro mate
Does that clear blocked drains? A couple of good one's in there. Garry
  9. For me it was some of the George Benson tracks, and a lot of the American soul stuff. And i did like Scritti Politti. Garry
  10.
I'd also be inclined to say, "Don't do it." Keep your favourite bass and save for a Wal. That give you a win-win scenario.
Seeing as he is House hunting - 1 wal wont be enough for a complete house.. He would need 4 Wal's and a roof to make a house.. Sorry...i will get me coat. Nice looking Bass.. Have a Bump. Garry
  11.
I'm laughing to myself because my poll questions were so ill thought out that I can't for the life of me extrapolate out a single conclusion
I was just thinking that myself... I just put it down to a spot of Monday morning glue sniffing! Playing for me - then again that might be the glue kicking in. Garry
  12.
I love this KingBass Mk-II 5-string...
Bit of an old slapper, that one... I can see that propped up in an Essex bus shelter and surrounded by chips, white shoes and rubbers. Garry
  13. Fantastic Bassist with a real feel for Music. He's done a bit, aint he?.. Garry
  14. Very sad indeed.... RIP Garry
  15. If i need anything Music related... I always ask my wife if she needs a new pair of shoes... Works a treat...... Have you seen the price of flip-flops these days? Garry
  16.
Very nice- if it exists? I say this as there is no "boombass76" on Talkbass, it's a newbie listing it and a foreign seller to boot?? No offence intended BTW. I hope I'm wrong and it's genuine, but you have to be sceptical in these scamming times... Cheers, Jon
Genuine...... Nice Looking Bass.. Good luck with the sale. Garry
  17.
anything I've missed? Alot I imagine
Has it been used? Garry
  18. Not sure what constitutes 'Best Bass Solo', but i like this one for being musical and melodic. Marcus Miller Fretless solo on 'Friends & Strangers'.. I believe he was in his late teens when he played it. Its from the Album 'Mountain Dance' with Dave Grusin. Not a hundred notes a minute, but it is incredibly Lyrical. Bass solo at about 02:50 Bit of a bum bandit album cover though. Garry
  19. Ahh... The Sound Of Philadelphia Big Disco city in the 70's. You tube it - tons of good stuff. The rumour had it that MFSB = Mother F##ker Sister Brother.. Or is that just Myth? Great track above. Garry
  20.
I can start off: An obvious one is Blockhead legend Norman Watt-Roy, who has been playing regularly with Wilko Johnson ( http://www.myspace.com/wilkojohnson ) for some years now. He's fantastic, so much energy, innovation, sweat, commitment, talent, all for a tenner!
I am sure you did not mean to say NWR is a small time Bass player... But i do understand your drift, and a good idea. A thread worth watching. Garry
  21. Same sort of sound and playing style as of Bob Glaub. He did the album with Hot Stuff and Bad Girls..so maybe him, just a guess though. Its really hard to track down the Musician credits on a lot of the 70's stuff. Garry
  22. Looks like you are sorted... There was a guy who used to set up Marcus Millers Basses, he could sing a bit as well - top guy.. His name was Luthier Vandross. There is always Robbie of RIM Basses.. He is in Luton. Garry
  23.
But I still don't like TK, too many notes. Just find a couple you like and play them well... like Guigsy.
Thats all very well. But would not work in 'All The Things You Are'... Garry
  24.
Overrated- Tom Kennedy, the only gig I have ever fallen asleep during. Although in Kennedy's defence it was mostly the 15 minute Dave Weckl drum solos that did for me.
Not sure TK is overated, And to be honest never seems to get a mention on Basschat. A fine Musician indeed. So out of curiosity who did make you fall asleep , DW or TK? Or the whole gig in general? Garry
