1.
One of my favourite bass solos is in a track called Friends & Strangers by Dave Grusin. It is a fretless player (don't know who) but just a lovely solo. Would love to be able to play like that one day!!
+1...a very lyrical solo indeed. That player my friend was a very young Marcus Miller. Marcus never seems to get much of a mention for his fretless playing [F.O.R] But his fretless playing is up there for sure. Garry
2. Sounds a bit sim to my single cut five stg without the maple board that Robbie made for me about 3 years ago. My neck has the same dimensions as the Marcus Miller Jazz 5. Just fab to play. Good luck with the build. Garry
3. Have you tried this... http://www.propellerheads.se/substance/ind...ticle=tutorials Might be some... I use Cubase as the host then rewire Ableton into that, with no problems. I have in the past used Cubase as a host and rewired Reason into that, once again no problems. It could be a GB problem. Garry
4. Windows XP running Cubase SX3 / Ableton 8 / Sound Forge. PC 1 driving AVI's and Quicktime on a second desktop. And a Laptop for running Finale 2009. A couple of Delta 10/10's. M-patch 2 for monitoring. A pair of Mackie's. Avalon U5 and also a Phoenix Audio DRS-1 Class-A pre. [ Hired out to my mates studio at the moment ] Studio logic Keyboard. And various Basses [ always my Rim Jazz5] and Gtrs. Waves plugs amongst others / Kontakt 3 / Various VSTi's. VSL library and about another 700 gig of various samples and patches. Moving overseas at the end of the year... I will then be moving over to Mac so i can run Digital Performer [ Good for the video stuff] Will keep the PC stuff still. Garry
5. Good grief i think i remember playing this axe in the Bass centre [1989].. I practically lived in that place every day, and the pub around the corner.. Great Basses... Have a bump on me.... almost tempted myself but i am trying to unload stuff, not get more.! Garry
6. Of course locking in with the Drummer is important. But it is just as important you know what you doing on the Tune front. It might be worth contacting the guy in charge and getting a clue as to what you are jamming. An experienced guy would just erm..'Jam'. But if you are feeling vulnerable with that side of it and have trouble with busking... Then just locking in with the kit or watching various bits of the kit wont really help. [ unless you know the tunes] Its really just down to a bit of preparation.... i would think, Garry
7.
If she'd been playing the first beat on the 2nd beat that would be another matter...
Yep sure would - it would be 'one drop Reggae'... Well done Zoe. Garry
8.
Any suggestions? Cheers
Do you have a sequencer? If so... put your double stops into the sequencer. Then add a Bass note to the double stops. Your choice of note, I have just done this [ on your behalf... hope you dont mind] And some interesting things happen with your double stop's sequence. You really can make most things work with some experimenting using different inversions / moving Bass notes. Give it a go. Garry
9.
Cool, is that Computer Music Monthly or something like that?
Yep, sure is. Sorry about that. CM saves you spending money [well for the £6/7.00] Sound wise, they are the same [DAWS]...Just 0's and 1's... It's the sound/audio card that generates the sound, so you will need a reasonable sound card. Thats another thing ... Garry
10. And dont forget the Computor Magazine with a free DVD [Monthly] Comes with Sequencer, drum synths, a Sampler, all kinds of other free synths and FX plug ins, Tutorials, and tons of one hit samples and loops. About 6 or 7 squids. Well worth a punt. Garry
