Ray Brown's line from Blue Monk is also good (Blues, Bb)
If i get time towards the end of the week i might start a new thread with some of the stuff from the link you provided. That will keep it all neat and tidy. Garry
even a behringer?youre having a laugh
Even a Behringer. I had to to use a hired one for a gig. The 2x10 combo. Worked a treat. If i was backed into a corner, and had to play with the Ashdown, the Behringer, or Posh Spice. The Behringer would win hands down. Garry
Why not just learn to read music ? Its not that hard ..... and it will open up so many more opportunities to play live music. The Thing with Norman is he is a Rock & Roller... He was born in the late 1940's... and he has never been to bed once! Garry -
with Louis Johnson, Bernard Edwards and Freddie Washington playing them almost exclusively on all the records they played on.
I know Louis Johnson used a precision in the early days, But i thought he and Bernard Edwards were Musicman guys for the most. Might be wrong, and usually i am. Garry
How close were you to the amp when you were playing? A lot of good amps won't sound good if you're stood right next to them, but will project a fantastic bass sound a couple of feet away, or more. Also the type of room you were in makes considerable difference, etc. etc.
Interesting points. But i think Bay Splayer is talking about 2 combos in the same room, same acoustics, same distance etc..more like an A/B test. [ i think ] And one out blew t'other.
If "cutting through the mix" is the bag you're into then Ashdown probably isn't for you.
So its good then for... I dont know what i am playing, having a fumble, And hope know one can hear me... sound? Thanks, one to look out for then. Garry
Bass Central is a bit further north in Orlando. Not exactly a stroll from the beach though.
It took me about 3 1/2 hours. [ driving, not walking ] But it is a great shop. Garry
But not shoes. Furniture. I can see it now in the For Sale forum... "Music Man SUB 4 FT... anyone got a nice English oak 2-over-3 chest of drawers?"
Garry

Good grief, Dont leave it to the wife... She will sell it all on Basschat, Then blow it all on shoes! Or trade for shoes. Garry

What about trying something musical. Forget pedals , loops and noise, everybody is doing that. Doing something musical might make someone sit up and listen, and think F**k, i like this guy, he is original... Garry
but if anyone is in the market for a high end Alembic then this is a good indication of what's available
Or not available. I still prefere myths, legends and folktales. It would be nice to come back to Basschat in ten years and see if the 'Alembic Stanley Clarke Deluxe' ever surfaced. Have a bump on me, or a bump in the night on me. Garry

Jake... I had a Deluxe Jazz 5 hired for me out in Berlin about a month ago. The B string was a bit floppy, and the whole thing was set to a no action. I Just got the tool kit out, [ take your keys and screw driver ] and it played fine. The active / pre amp sound is not that great, infact really honky. [ for me ] I just used my Sans Amp Di..and it all sounded cool. It wont play like other high end Jazz Basses but will do the job ok. You will walk away from Germany with a German Beer hangover and think... F**k, i am not gonna buy one of them... Personally i would be more worried about the German beer hangover than a 5 stg Fender Jazz. They can really hurt. Garry
I know that using a plectrum on a bass is generally a taboo amoungst pro bassists
Is it? The guy that played Bass on all the Hall & Oates stuff. Good tone. Who ever that was. Garry
Is that really necessary? I always thought it was the action of the thumb hitting the string itself that sounded the note...
I agree. Also bearing in mind open strings come into the equation. Garry
Wasn't it in The Bass Gallery a year or 2 back? Same description. I always thought it was Steve Pearce's old bass. Either way it was one of the nicest jazzes I've played- it just felt well bedded in.
Quite possible it was the same Bass. But i remember speaking to Steve Pearce and he said it was not his. I think it might have belonged to Steve Price originally. It had Bart pups when i got it, RS sent me some vintage pups over and it sound much better. Expensive phone call that, i ended up ordering another Sadie Jazz... So the green one had to go. Garry
To be really honest I don't think anyone in the audience is going to take much notice of what bass is being played. In fact most of them would only notice the bass if it wasn't there
Thats very true... I depped a lot on this show when it first toured then went into the West End about 10 years ago. Shane Ritchie was the main turn IIRC. Good fun show to play, i think it was all live at that time, just a few clix tracks with extra instruments etc. The guy i depped for used a Warcking thumb, And i used a Sadowsky nyc 5 stg jazz....Green! I sold it to a guy in Grantham. I have often wondered if anyone here on Basschat now owns it? Garry
