2. Yep i Have tickets for the Mick Jagger center in Dartford... :)

I saw him in Berlin Last Year...JH on Bass and it was Fantastic.
We Hung out with the Whole band for about an hour after the gig In some tiny bar.
Jimmy Haslip did not stop going on about himself..

3.
"Oh, I have gigged it today and I have decided it is going nowhere..." "Oh, it was only a feeler, I was in two minds, so it is not up for sale anymore...." Nothing is more irritating than this!!! :)

Reading between the lines: nobody offered what I had in mind, so I 'll have to stick with it for the time being, but I will use a silly excuse... It's free!! I can!!

I would dare to suggest to moderators to charge a fee for putting a bass up for sale, e-bay style. No "feelers" allowed: either it is up for sale at a specific price or it is not. If you do not know what to charge, do some research first and avoid some embarrassment. I know this is a great community but the "For sale" section is the "For sale" section, not the smoochy-smoochy, "oh, lovely!!!! but I am skint " waste of bandwidth!!! Anywhere else you pay to advertise.

If you DEFINITELY want to sell it, be prepared and that's it!! Too many "I will try here, or it will go to e-bay" transformed into "... well, after all, I did not know what I was doing....". Very well, maybe there should be a charge upfront, to clear in advance the mind of people just testing the water. Attracted buyers will visit the site anyway.

In a few words: too many taking advantage of the (free) system.

Please do not flood my mail box with comments, I will not reply. If you want to add something, please do in the open thread. And before anybody asks: yes I have sold a bass here, a cheap one, and if I had known in advance about all the timewasters begging to reserve it for them for the next week/month, only to disappear in the blue yonder, I would have done otherwise. Surely not again.

All the best to convinced sellers that WANT a change and go for it!!

Thanx
Regards
Mike
Not Totally sure, I think about 3/4 years ago..
They were around the £1200.00 mark.
But for sure a different beast.. :)
Thats why they are real hard to get your hands on.
I have tried both, and for me it was a bit like the
Lakland Usa and Skyline thing.

Good luck with what ever you go with.

8. I have seen him live a couple of times over in Paris.
Just playing in a quintet doing standards.
He knows his way around changes very well, Not just noodling [No fusion licks there]
Not a fake book in sight [ Dont see that very often these days in small gigs] :)
I dont think a lot of the videos going around these days do him any justice.
He must be doing something right, gets a lot of work.
I can not see him doing a day job for a while..

10. Well if my wife finds the Paul Young CD....
I will try and do the whole thing tomorrow.
I think the intro section goes something like [Pic attachment]
Might have got some of the articulations wrong.
But without hearing i cant be sure.
Anyway should get you started.
I think the middle section is just around G minor, F and Eb...

11. All i know about this Bass,
3/4 size,
From China,
I have had it 7 years from new.

Issues

Neck has at somepoint has started to come away from Body.
This has not stopped me using it....
But of course has resulted in higher / heavier action..[ good for me , but not a novice ]
A couple of small chips on the body, but nothing major.
The neck could be reset by yourself if you know what you are doing.
But i would suggest going to a repairer, then you could have a good set up.
Not sure the cost of this, but not a major job.
This would be a good starter upright, or if you are still finding your way about.

£100.00 Can do Paypal.
And would have to be picked up...
Or maybe i could meet..[ not sure about that yet ]

Welcome to try at any time.
I am at Canvey Island, Near Benfleet Essex.

13.
With due respect to my esteemed colleagues who have uploaded transcriptions, the rhythmic structure of the bass line is a 3/2 Latin clave diminished to one bar. So each bar is based on:
dotted quaver, dotted quaver, crotchet, quaver, crotchet

Then there are embellishments on top of that (rests and extra notes) but that's more down to feeling it at the time, I would argue. I would wait and see what the drummer is up to before adding too much of that.

Lincoln Goines and Robby Ameen have put together a great book called "Funkifying the Clave" about the mechanics of afro-cuban rhythms, including how they influence rock and pop. You don't have to work your way through the book to play Valerie tonight but it's a good one to add to the collection and it is very relevant here so I couldn't resist a little plug :)
Yep that is a great Book and a must...... I have the first edition complete with Cassette tape...

My chart reference was to 'OTPJ', and that it was in 4/4.
It has a heavy snare back beat on 2 and 4 so being a pop/soul tune was in 4/4.
4 Stick counts at start , but of course that could be read as 'One two.two two'
Then making it.......................

I think you might be over complicating a p**s easy pop tune , sung by a raving
Drug ridden, Gin sodden old looking trout [ who sings great when she is sober.. ]

14.
Hi Garry, I think you're right there. It does vary a little in places. I was mainly going for the bones of the piece so that Mewsie could get through it for her audition. Not bad for a 30 minute takedown, though :)
Sorry mate, I was not bone picking...
As it happens its good to see people putting up charts...good one!
In fact it might be a good idea for a thread... [Like the groove loops thing]
Then we could all help each other out..
Might have to change the odd note though...
Not sure how you would stand with the copyright thing ?
