Never liked Abe, I'm afraid, but I think its because I never really liked anything that he played on (its mostly fuzak).
You liked JJ but did not like any thing he played on. [MOTOWN] Not sure i understand that any Bass player can not like Abe. But hey, thats what the worlds about..opinions.. Garry

Abraham Laboriel -- He's Exalted Just a bit of fun, but i like it. Still fat and still knows his grooves, And his dance routines... Goes a bit wonky at the end.. BWGAF...its Abe... Garry
Lady In Red was Pino Palladino - he talks about the track in an interview in Bass Player in March 1992 (Vol 3, No 2). Of course, he could've been mistaken, and it might really have been Carol Kaye. (Looks over his shoulder and thinks to myself he's been here before.)
Yep...and there is a quote in my link above...same mag. Garry
It would appear so. Yawn-a-feckin-rama It was John Giblin... another brilliant, tasteful player.
Might be wrong, but i thought it was PP. I know John Giblin did a couple of tracks on the album though. [Great player] This might help... 3/4 of the way down... http://www.bassplayer.com/article/4-fantastic/Mar-04/622 Garry
Let's face it, even the 'hit singles' were just churned out by the Motown machine to a preset formula. They are to music what MacDonalds is to food, ie v. popular mass-produced crap.
You cant stop talking about it though... Must have worked... Must be the first time i have heard the likes of Stevie wonder and Marvin Gaye cited as Mass-Produced crap.... Or even Beefburgers come to think of it. Are you a drummer from birth? Garry
Carole Gaye? Nah, that's Marvin
What..Hamlisch? Garry
Years ago the (now late) bloke in the Bass Cellar told me when I enquired about availablity of the MIJ Fender Duck Bass, that Duck wasn't a very good player and Lewis Steinberg played on all the hits Mr Baldy was a cloth-eared miserable little cnut in a shtty bass shop.
Fancy going 6 feet under [or sitting on top of a fireplace] and thinking that!
I like loads of things that would clear a dance floor in seconds. Maybe I should have just said that!
What like your bunch of carrots. Me...it might be my big nose! Garry
I don't know... is it possible for a great song to have a poor bass line?
Like i said.. It is all individual taste.. A great song to you might not mean a great song to me. I do happen to like a lot of the Motown stuff. Over the years i have noticed how good [to me ] the arrangements are. Other than just listening to the great Jamerson. Garry

Individual musical taste will come into play here... So i look forward the forth comming list ... I have started to look from another side of this. Like some good songs i have heard... And what a f**ing piss poor Bass line. For someone to say 'yer but she/he played only what what was needed' Seems like creativity is starting to wain these days. And i am not talking about overplaying. I like TOP.. Great arrangements, more than tunes. Garry
Its not the bass playing you should be worried about. Best get practicing on the rollerskates should he feel a "Wired for Sound" moment coming on.

Not sure being single - technically or otherwise - has ever stopped a Stone from, err, knobbing.
Yer i know. Just did not want some do-gooder fish on the back of his car Bass chatter flaming me down.. Garry

You could always download reaper... All the tools you would need to do a good job. Its free... You are supposed to get a licence at some stage... "REAPER is available for download without technological limitations for evaluation purposes. Once you have evaluated REAPER, you should purchase a license." http://www.reaper.fm/ A few guys swear by it here at Bass chat. I have tried it, and it is great. Garry
I can think of worse gigs for a bassist. The Rolling Stones, for example. If I was going to do world tours with a bunch of old fogeys, I would want a bit more out of it than a paycheck...
I am not a great stones Fan...But they have made there mark on The Rock Industry Over the years. Playing in front of 40.000 or whatever at venues all over the world.. Great sound and lights... Treated like you should be treated.. Best Hotels... Eating king prawns every day. Getting your strings changed...and your battery. Not having to talk to anyone in the band. Knob anything that takes your fancy [if you are single] Is gonna be more than just a pay cheque..Regardless of there age. Dont you Like enjoying yourself.?.. Garry
What is the advantage of the single cut? Balance? Tone? Cosmetic? Other?
Not sure there is an advantage...[ some Techy Bassists might have another opion ] For me it was more cosmetic. Although mine does balance very well. Garry
the pickup is what makes the P so awful.
Funny that.. Wonder why so many top of the game producers over the years have taken a different approach to you.. And sound engineers come to think of it..... Not that i am a P bass lover myself. But awful is not a word that exists in the world of Rock & Roll and pop... Garry
The only change I'd like to make now is to swap the EMGs for Delanos... will probably get that done at some point. Apart from that... mmmm, perfect.
I have Delanos [MM/J] on my single cut, I quite often run the Bass in passive mode. [i have no passive tone control...so just flat] And they sound the dogs..really rich and creamy.. Cant understand why more people dont try them.. Garry

Had my dream Bass made for me a couple of years ago. [ see my pic to the left.. I wanted a single cut... with ebony board and profile of the Marcus Miller 5..got that. Agi 3 band pre-amp...got that. Through body Badass...got that. Something that sounded Musicman, and in single coil mode Jazz bass like...got that. Funny thing is that it has a massive out put..so i tend to use it in Passive mode. Had no more Gas since i got this... So one happy Bunny... Garry
