but not much point in me making the switch?
Not Really.. But try the Full working Demo..I thinks about a month... Even then it does not stop working, In theory you are then meant to buy a licence for commercial use. Garry

    Reaper DAW 3.2
I think it's just a matter of finding the sweet spot with a PC. Macs will come ready tuned, so that's why your teacher thought that!
I am Glad to say he was not my Teacher.. I was there at his Private School Networking up his Music PC's. He was Moaning about PC's not up to the standard of His Mac...they are slow.. I had to send him to Audio Tweeks for XP. How the F... do these People get these jobs.? Mac vs PC Arguments went with Dick Turpin. I use Both .Both have Faults,Both have great points. Its knowing your software. I am amazed at folks who dont,or can not be arsed , Then blame the programme. Garry

    Reaper DAW 3.2

Not sure that Cubase does fall down compared to others. They pretty much do the same these days. You will always get users saying this is better because..Blah Blah. Its just finding what works best for you. OT... I even had a Music Tech Teacher telling me the other day that Macs have a better sound than windows... [Not much hope for his pupils] We know that it is down to sound cards. And if the Audio is not even leaving the computor... That dont even come into play.. Garry

    Reaper DAW 3.2

I am a Nuendo user... But have given Reaper a Try.[you just have to, dont you.! ] And yep it is very good. For my own preferences i find it lacks a lot on the midi side of things, Compared to say , Cubase/Nuendo. But the Bussing side is geat. The plugs/Efx that come with it seem pretty good. I am really surprised that folks on a tight budget dont go for it, As opposed to the cut down versions of the major DAW's. Its pretty feature packed for the price to be honest. Good luck with it. Garry
  9. Jesus Bilbo..... Have you been sniffing glue...? Garry
  10. I quite fancy this one. Garry
  11. I Had a custom 6 string through neck , shaped a bit like a Wal. A guy called Jeff Finch made it for me in 1989. Emg soap bars and Eq. The Bass Gallery sold it for me in in 1999. I would like to know where it is , and if it is up for grabs. I will post some pics later if i can find any. Garry
  12. I've got rhythm... [Think The Flintstones Theme] Learn this chord sequence and it will set your ears up for a life time of Busking... Then you can do away with the books... As someone has said.. There is a PDF Disc around with tons of tunes. Or the Pocket books are a good start. Garry
  13.
Having played both i'd go for the Squier - felt a bit more solid and sounded nicer .
Having owned one and played the other ..I would say the other way around Me and Machines have been a real F.....g help...! Garry
  14.
Just a quick warning - I've been offered an ex-James Jamerson 1962 Precision by a very well known vintage guitar dealer. Suffice to say - this is a 100% scam. Just in case he, or any other dealers, contact anyone else on Basschat - please be advised to tell anyone offering to sell you anything like this that even if it was genuine it would have to be stolen property as Jamerson's 62 P Bass was stole from his house in 1983 whilst he was on his death bed. I'm sure that the vast majority of guys on here would know this anyway - but just in case, I'd hate to find out that somebody has been caught out by this.
Well i am not sure what to make of all this... Did this vintage dealer ring you and say 'pss..dont tell anyone ..i have the original...blah blah' Or did you walk into his/her shop/house and there it was hanging on the wall.? Or come into my backroom and have a look , but dont tell anyone? Or Replying to what ? , an advert in the paper...Ebay? I am not sure there would be anything wrong in naming the shop..surely..?? Sorry for probing , just curious Even so if it was genuine..buy it and give to the Jamerson family... You would get on there family photo's
  15. Last night..... Dorchester Hotel Ballroom.. Depping on the Motown 'Dancing in the Streets' Corporate show. 2 x 45 spots of pure Fun.... Used my old Precision [Flat wounds of course] Through a hired SWR rig...even made me smile.... Garry
  16. A big IF... But what if it is the real deal...? [I dont think for one moment it is] Have you thought about emailing the Jamerson estate ? Garry
  17.
It's a good point. If you're dependent on something for a living, you're then driven by financial motives rather than fun.
+1 Well there can be two sides to your Musical career... just another twist for this thread. The 9-5 or day job part or whatever you want to call it [shows /sessions/cruises or whatever you do] And the fun work..just dep out the 9-5 gig.... Then do the fun / Jazz or small paid gigs. You may well ask , why do the bread and butter gig if you dont like it , [if it is just driven by finance.] Simple.. Well paid , and you get to see the world as a bonus. And you can still do the fun gigs. And as Jakesbass has said.... Most full time Musicians i know , seem to have a good standard of living. And not live of cat litter and in a one bedroom pokehole . Garry
  18.
Garry - touche, my bad!
Bit of fun dont hurt anyone.... But your point about your shoulder injury is a great one... If you are going to be a self-employed musician , Its worth thinking about sickness and injury insurance schemes , And of course a pension scheme [not that they are worth much these days]. Garry
  19.
Lowdown, more great advice! But point's lost for misuse of apostrophe's...
I am really sorry about the shoulder , and hope its on the mend. But points lost for networking skills. Garry
  20.
I'm really, really sorry - I know grammar correcting is a hateful habit and I don't do it for anything else but I promised my English teacher mother I'd try never to let this one pass - if you're talking about more than one of something there is no apostrophe before the S. You only use an apostrophe if you want to indicate possession. Moles = more than one mole. Mole's = belonging to Mole. Please forgive this interruption. Apart from that, everything you said was very correct and useful Sorry again  Jon
Ok .... If your mum is happy...so am i But this does not help Gamble in anyway find out how i have made a very healthy living from playing Bass for the past 30 years... ...And still am... Not sure my wife and 3 year old son will be worried about MOLES and S'S , when my mortgage is finished on the 16th of July. Garry
  21.
One other thing that may not occur to people thinking about this - I've really enjoyed playing many different types of music, on many types of bass, but if someone gave me loads of ££ today to go and do "my thing" I wouldn't have a clue what I wanted to do. I don't even know what music to listen to for enjoyment anymore. I can appreciate most things (still don't get opera) but I've lost focus on "my music". Time for a holiday? BB
This is true for me also... But I think i get Opera , or is that a spelling mistake... And you mean Orphra w....? Garry
  22. Learn to sight read.... A big +.... This will open doors to show's / Turn's / Session's etc. This can bring in a good annual income. And also useful for depping.. [Some Function Bands Even have Pad's] If they have not... The second thing to do is get your ear's in shape.. By this i mean good busking skill's... or at least know plenty of tune's. Either way , if you are good at one or other [pref both] You will get the call's....In theory Networking skill's also a plus... You dont want to piss people off with hassle phone call's. [this is another art in itself] Plus all the other stuff above folk's have said. Garry
