Apart from the traditional regimental Bb Bugles for military calls (notated in C). There is also a Soprano Bugle in G with a horizontal valve so it can be played in D as well. Drum & Bugle Corps use it. Which kind of falls into place with the Bass harmonics in 'G' version played by the Bassist above. I believe there are two and three valve Bugles also used in the Corps This chap below, explains the various Bugles very well.

It's just five notes around a Major Triad. From what I've heard the last couple of days, Bugle players have been playing it in Bb. I've also heard a Trumpet player playing it in Eb. The fellow below plays it in 'G' using harmonics.

Yes, his writing and arranging skills were terrific. His Big Band stuff was good too.... Oddly enough, at around 3:15 of that video, it sounds like the same Bass player in style and sound. If you listen through headphones you can quite clearly hear it is an Electric played with a pick. Very much the sound and style of that era. The more you listen to Piero Piccioni, the more you become a fan of his music and start hunting down more of him. His music was very catchy. Yeah, thanks for posting... To me, that sounds like a Pick and flats, played near the neck. The extra edge might be because it's a Jazz Bass? On another note, Piero Piccioni composed some great film scores back in the 60's and 70's. His string arranging was beautiful and very romantic. Great voicings..!!
