My oldest boy wants a set up for his bedroom. I showed him your post, he then searched for reviews and will now be ordering. He had a budget of £300 and was going to come to me for more money. It seems you have saved me some dosh!! £277, with those very favourable reviews, made it a no Brainer for him. Thanks for the heads up. 👍

Love 'em, or hate them. These two done well (chart wise).

Bert Kampfert's Bassist had a distinctive sound. His name was, Ladi Geisler. A link below for a decent, in-depth Wiki read about him and his 'Knack-Bass' style. You will need to click and open the sub sections. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladi_Geisler

Big Jim Sullivan was in his band for about ten years as well.

One of my favourite tunes. Very well played by all. 👍

I'm not sure what version of Cubase you have but, if it is the latest (10.5), you will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of VST FX and Virtual Instruments that comes bundled with it. https://new.steinberg.net/cubase/compare-editions/ https://new.steinberg.net/cubase/

Aaron Copland. Fanfare for the Common Man. -
Too many to mention, I love solos! Just before landing on Basschat tonight I was listening to 'Magnetic' by Steps Ahead. Michael Brecker's Tenor solo on 'Trains' is fantastic. A great lesson in solo building. He even overdubbed harmonies on the solo. Victor Bailey on Bass put in a great shift as well. Actually, the whole band did. Tenor solo starts at 02:18

The opening 8 bars with Joe Morello's head accents in unison with the bass drum accents is very amusing. -

I believe you can get your ears tested in Barnard Castle. -
Neil Jason is a great player!! I always thought him and Neil Stubenhaus flew under the radar a little when top US Bass players were discussed. Neil Jason: "Neil Jason is a professional bassist, producer and composer. He has worked with Paul McCartney, Pavorotti, Billy Joel, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Hall & Oats, Mick Jagger, Pete Townshend, Paul Simon, Kiss, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Brecker Brothers, Celine Dion, Brigitte Zarie ,Cindy Lauper, Dire Straits, Eddie Van Halen, and, John &Yoko to name a few. In addition, he was a member of the house band for Saturday Night Live from 1983 to 1985, and has over 100 appearances with Paul Shaffer and the Band on David Letterman". Neil Stubenhaus: "He's been around since the early 80's at least. He's played on hundreds of top 40 hits and is on many national commercial jingles, along with various TV themes and shows. He's (if hes still there) kind of the west coast version of Will Lee". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Stubenhaus

Someone in the YouTube reply posts added these names. "Alf Bigden on drums, Don Lusher on solo trombone, Tristan Fry on tympani, Roy Willox and Eddie Mordue on piccolos, Tony Fisher and Eddie Blair on trumpets, Laurie Holloway on piano, Dave Richmond on bass" .

My oldest boy has just upgraded from The Artist Version to the Pro version, I think there is some deal on at the moment. It's such an easy DAW to get up and running in no time. It's nearly all drag and drop, making for an easy work flow. I agree about the interface. You might have already been watching these tutorial videos from Marcus Huyskens, but if not, they are great. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrUjOjfA1tu30P3mTNXBoIQ

The competition this month was rigged... It seems the winner had already been chosen. Well done, Lenny.

I'm not that keen on the Drummer but, I like the Bassist though, a nice fluent solo.
-
Yes... I think the arrangement is great. Must of been a hell of a job getting all that together to sound so tight.

One of the better Lockdown offerings...

WDR Big Band featuring Richard Bona, with Vince Mendoza conducting. Vince Mendoza arrangements. A good 90 minutes listening. .
