The opening comment on the YouTube link. "Redgremlin 2 years ago Any band with a pigeon bassist, is a good band".

Hang on, Hellzero. Didn't you once start a thread about not reading posts before commenting?

The tune is called 'Minneapolis 1987'...I think it is from a live gig earlier this year sometime, not live, 1987. Thanks for posting. It's amazing to think he is playing again after the terrible accident he had. A massive effort from him, mentally and physically. https://brianbromberg.net/bio

A bit tenuous, indeed. But a thumbs up and a 'post like' for a top tune. 👍 Beyond The Sea (La Mer), from the same album, is pretty special as well. That Big Band arrangement is terrific.

There are a few of the classics I like but, the Nat King Cole, 1961 version of 'The Christmas Song', is top of my list. Although arranged and conducted by the great Ralph Carmichael, it is pretty much the (terrific) Nelson Riddle arrangement from the early 50's... As for Nat and his voice...Well, not much to say really... 🎅

How many people really listen or care about lyrics?
lowdown replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Punters listen to and know the lyrics, no problem. But, they just can't get their head around song titles... "Can you play, go on now go"... "Do you know that one about the Cake in a park"... The comical song request list is endless, and I bet this musicians community must have some corkers. -
On the top drop down menus go to ...Studio One > Options. Or shortcut (Ctrl + ,) then tick 'Release Audio Device In Background'. (This is in ST1 Version 4.5 - I presume it's the same in Version 3).

Some of the Monk Brothers material with Bobby Thomas on Drums is really terrific.

1976 and I was 19 when it was released. At the time I thought it was pretty amazing, to a degree, I still do I suppose. It was certainly different and pretty fresh sounding at the time, and made me dive straight into Fretless playing (I never looked back). I was at college at the time and a few of us started transcribing the Bass lines - All the harmonics and chord stuff were a real revelation. Plus, he certainly grooved on 'Come on, Come Over'. I really liked the phrasing on the Bass solo on '(Used to Be A) Cha Cha'. His arranging chops were pretty decent as well, with some top, top players of the time performing on the album. He didn't play on the 'Forgotten Love' track, the Piano was played by the great Herbie Hancock, but his composing skills shine though. I liked him as a Musician.

How I saw it (or heard it) as well. 👍

A bloke in his underpants being encouraged by a Geezer who abandons his record player to join in the fun. The TV audience loved 'em...I hated 'em and laughed my nads off...But, that's what it's all about, opinions... init...

Any P bass people want to comment on this?
lowdown replied to Swaffle88's topic in General Discussion
I may be mistaken but, add a Jazz Pup to a Precision and it does 'One Trick Pony' rather well. I'm viewing on a phone screen, so it may well be another Bass. No worries, always a good reason to listen to Gadd, Levin and Co laying down a groove. 👍 -
If you can find a way to go back in time - Archer Street. You only needed to own an Instrument to get work on just about any musical situation. If you are not aware of the Archer Street history, the link below is a good read. https://www.muhistory.com/from-the-archive-4-archer-street-london/

Yeah, good stuff... I thought the Clive Chin story about Peter Tosh, in the New York Court, was funny.

One of my favourite musicians, Dave Grusin, was a master of the Rhodes. There are dozens of tunes with Dave playing Rhodes but, it's a good time to dig out Friends & Strangers... Even a (young) Marcus Fretless solo for good measure!!

Yeah, always hits the spot for me.

Thank you for the write up. A good read. 👍

I suppose with over 2.5 million YouTube subscribers and solid teaching commitments, he might be a tad too busy to come on here and engage with BB5 regarding his "Pet hate"...
