  1. Marcus Miller still uses his '77 Jazz Bass (around forty years ?).
  2. This may be of use to someone looking for a decent Orchestral library. One of my boys just grabbed the 'Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Ensemble' deal. He was going to use it for Orchestral layering, but a lot of the sounds hold up on their own. Hard to beat the quality sampling at this price. Check out the demos. 👍 https://audioplugin.deals/virtuoso-ensemble-kirk-hunter-studios/
  3. Not strictly true. In musical theatre, vocalists and choirs will do breathing exercises and then scale warm ups with a rehearsal Pianist or the MD, then onto any rehearsing or top and tailing. The band/Orchestra will be rehearsing elsewhere away from the vocalists. Then, everybody is grouped together for a Sitzprobe. This happens in Opera as well. So perhaps the band leader was referring to this, maybe? Although it seems a tad dramatic for the situation the OP had found himself in. The band could have arrived a bit later maybe?
  4. 👍 There is also a Kontakt version of this on their site.
  5. Good stuff....👍 I have the album that this track is from. The album is a very nice listen (Digor - Ouvert).
  6. Maybe you have just been unlucky. Are you using an Audio interface that's really not up to the job? Or possibly, you are struggling with the onboard sound card? Windows 10 and DAW's, along with VST's, is an extremely stable working environment these days.
  7. Says the man with a 'toneKnob'. I've never had any commissions for a porn film, but I have had three tracks synced from a library company for some horizontal jogging cues. (All EDM as well, not a Wah Wah in sight). Good luck with it all.
  8. Yeah, interview here, which is quite interesting. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/toto-xiv-steve-lukather-joseph-williams-interview/ He did seem to keep himself busy outside of Toto though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Williams_(musician)
  9. Both great during the early years. But Joe managed to look after himself with his voice still intact. (Dad, John, probably told him off if he didn't ). Joe is great on this (well they all are) - The band really rocks and Luke's solo is terrific.
  10. Yeah, just seen that on Facebook. Awful...
  11. Oh dear, look how the simple things in lyric writing have changed. Once upon a time, you just needed to wake up in the morning.
  12. Garage band. Open App, select an Audio track, press the record button and off you go. For field recordings, or any quick recording of Ambient sounds, conversations and general messing around, Acoustic ideas etc; It does the job for me with minimal fuss. Also it's easy to go into the timeline and cut the Audio up into smaller Audio events, along with tidy up/get rid of anything I don't need. And of course I can add FX if needed. If I have been depping on any shows, It has been perfect for recording in the pit for my notes and getting a general feel for the show while going over/reading through the charts at home. It's pretty easy really. https://support.apple.com/kb/PH24832?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
  13. Amazing that you can get a Bassline out of sampled Copper & Zinc...
  14. Chevy Chase looking like a big Paul Simon, the little Paul Simon looking a bit like Keith Moon...and a P Bass with a Badass Bridge? Loads Of funny things going on and Chevy clearly having a great laugh. I like the tune and the stonking groove, so it all kinda goes hand in hand for me.
  15. I think it is just a good old Eb major (three flats), with the C minor being the relative minor. I am not sure there is a Db anywhere in the tune/chords. If the key was Ab major there would be Db’s in the key sig. Chord three is used a lot (G minor - natural D’s). The verse starts on chord IV (Ab major 7th). Just my opinion of course.
  16. Intro to the original Doctor Who theme; a lovely bit of Phrygian.
  17. Not sure if it is humble, but the Theremin ? Maybe there should be a weird thread for some of these Instruments?
  18. The good ol' 'Finger Snap'...Who needs snare drums ?
  19. Yeah, I have the album. Most of the tracks have some creative/unusual arrangements. Quite a lot of vocal tech fx going on as well.
  20. I think mine was about that, or maybe a little bit more.
  21. Loved the place (and the pub around the corner - The White Swan?). Early days all Basses and Amps were downstairs. Mid 80's (when it opened) through to the early 90's I purchased a lot from them. '88, I got my first Wal from them (five string). A Sadowsky five string, and a couple of Fenders. The usual Trace Elliot stuff as well, along with their own brand of strings ? They used to have some great clinics/demo nights there as well with some top players. I used to live just over the other side of the river, near Tower Bridge, so walked over there quite often. It was a good social gathering as well, always lots of players to talk music with.
