  1. “REASON FOR FAILURE OF YOUR PREVIOUS PROJECTS:”. I bet the band leaders wife/girl friend/partner might feature heavily in this. Well, it wouldn’t be Rock & Roll otherwise.
  2. The terrific Carles Benavent on Bass? Fantastic playing all round with a lovely style. Thanks for reminding me to save to Spotify. 👍
  3. His session CV was pretty impressive (quite heavyweight, indeed). Although he was 90, still sad when these characters leave us. Great player. R. I. P An audio interview with Max talking about his career....
  4. Of course, we all have plenty of favourites, but I like how Jimmy Haslip mixes it up in this track. As a bonus, Robben Forde on top of his game....
  5. More Randy Crawford, featuring a duet with Al Jarreau, from the superb album 'Casino Lights' (recorded live down at the Montreux Jazz Festival).
  6. Yep, love my Jazz (listening and playing). Today my ears have been taking in Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery, along with Dave Grusin's Big Band album, 'West Side Story', and Michel Camilo's Big Band album, 'Caribe'. I like it pretty varied really.
  7. Great stuff, 'OwnHeart'. PM will be coming your way later - My oldest will be interested in this. Nice gesture from all involved...👍 EDIT: PM sent...
  8. Ah, the Pipe!! Apparently he used to make his way to gigs in London on his bike, with his Double Bass strapped to his back. I know he backed various Folk singers and showbiz personalities, but he was a terrific Jazz player. He was certainly a well liked character and musician.
  9. If I wasn't gigging up and down the OKR back then, I would be in there, listening to Greg. Great times, I lived just up the road from 'The Old Cow' for about ten years. I once found £150.00 in there (under a table). I told the guv'. He said, "It's probably 'weed' money, no one has asked about it. Keep it mate and buy all your mates a few beers......in here"...
  10. Yeah, just had a look. Indeed, interesting. Does the iOS App alert you when you have zapped a mouse?
  11. Last Night at the Proms (although not really last night at the Proms, 'cause it's on every year). Always worth a watch for me. I couldn't even face the Waste Coat vs Spain last night.
  12. There is a nice little read here regarding 'Everlasting Love'. Three pages that ended up attracting some notable musicians and family members of Russ Stableford. http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2006/07/the-love-affair-everlasting-love/comment-page-1/#comments
  13. I noticed his son (Glyn Stableford) has been on various forums, trying to gather information on his dads session career. "Groovin' with Mr Bloe" is another one he played on as well.
  14. I am not sure what version of Cubase you are using, but if you have the latest (9.5), it has all the plugins you need including an Octave divider. Of course, there are a couple of duff ones in there, but mostly very good and a few that are excellent. https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/cubase_music_production_software/virtual_instruments_and_effect_plug_ins.html But, if you fancy some FREE 3rd party FX, there is a great little module worth grabbing below. Just need to provide an Email address. You can opt out of everything else and no credit card details needed - My son has been using it for a review and said It's a good 'un as well.👍 https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-page/2018/09/03/friday-free-plug-in-kilohearts-snapheap?mc_cid=e2c0cdf223&mc_eid=196a09f125
  15. Groove, Feel and Soul. Hamish Stuart's singing on this is terrific, with Alan Gorrie doing his bit as well on backing vocals.
  16. It was a master stroke hooking up with Arif Mardin in LA to record the AWB album, it really elevated them. (The Brecker Brothers are among the extra musicians on that album ). Below is one for the nerdy, Average White Bums (like me)... A rare AWB recording, it even has a slapped Musicman Bass on it.... It wasn't released at the time, because of copyright problems (just a demo I think). Of course, Boz Scaggs later recorded it (it was originally a Toto track/composition).
  17. Vince Mendoza. His arranging chops are just superb,
  18. Session Bassist, Russ Stableford. He also played Bass in 'The Muppets Band'.
  19. Absolutely fine. Like I said, I was just curious, that was all.👍
  20. Fiddle, I possibly understand, finish I totally understand - Fix is another matter for me. If I am asked to 'fix', or a suggested 'fix' from someone who is paying, or indeed if I have missed something that needs fixing, i am more than happy to go back and fix. Otherwise the deadline, is handed over to someone else, to become their deadline....
  21. Why do you not want to go back and fiddle and fix? Many Symphonies have evolved into top work this way, along with many other classics throughout history I should imagine. Just curious, really...
  22. I thought it was 1980, but I found this in among the reply posts. "This was in Oostende in Belgium in 1981. That is where he recorded a part of the album Midnight love (sexual healing). This rehearsal was for a concert at the casino in Oostende. He lived there for more than a year. Belgium ! Who could tell ?" Which ties in with the Wiki page... "On February 14, 1981, under the advice of music promoter Freddy Cousaert, Gaye relocated to Cousaert' apartment in Ostend, Belgium.[88] While there, Gaye shied away from heavy drug use and began exercising and attending a local Ostend church, regaining personal confidence.[89][90] Following several months of recovery, Gaye sought a comeback onstage, starting the short-lived Heavy Love Affair tour in England and Ostend in June–July 1981.[91] Gaye's personal attorney Curtis Shaw would later describe Gaye's Ostend period as "the best thing that ever happened to Marvin". When word got around that Gaye was planning a musical comeback and an exit from Motown, CBS Urban president Larkin Arnold eventually was able to convince Gaye to sign with CBS. On March 23, 1982, Motown and CBS Records negotiated Gaye's release from Motown. The details of the contract were not revealed due to a possible negative effect on the singer's settlement to creditors from the IRS."
