West Side Story, as some will know, Is a roast up of reading at the best of times, but this guy is a lunatic. The original score has three/four percussion players, so this one player is doing a terrific job of reading and combining all the rearranged parts. In London and the South East you could be out working seven nights and a couple of lunch times a week. This would be pubs, functions and small clubs, not Mecca or shows or any extra from recording dates, that all became the next stop after overseas hotels and Cruises. All you had to do was just own a Bass. Dep work was big business as well if you didn't want to be tied down.For most of us, this was a good period when all the contacts were made, and in a way made it easier for guys and girls to go on and sustain a long career as a musician. In short, there was plenty of money about. This to me, seems to be what Blue is looking for, but it's a different era, that side of the business has vanished. In a way it was an apprenticeship for getting your ears, reading and chops together, because it was constant playing and gaining experience.

My oldest is having a Jaco day. He just commented, that apart from his fabulous musicianship, Jaco was continually surrounded by high end players.(they must have enjoyed playing with him). How do you get to play in a great band ? Start one yourself and fill it with great players. Jaco certainly had an ear for wonderful players when putting together his band. The soloing on this track from Bob Mintzer and Randy Brecker is just top draw, and I love the Steelpan solo from Othello Molineaux (terrific). [media]http://youtu.be/TgntkGc5iBo[/media]

He also had good arranging chops and his Piano playing was pretty decent as well. The jamming album with Pat Metheny, Paul Bley and Bruce Ditmus is an interesting listen. When he burst onto the scene, it really was a case of wow! Only a handful of other Bassists have done that for me.

Possibly not as much as she thought, or hoped for. But still, a result. As far as my wife was concerned, eventually IC did what she hoped they would do, and what she paid for. We have just been looking over all the paper work. Just before the possible hearing (it didn’t actually happen in the end), the woman making the claim changed her statement. My wife received an ‘admended statement of truth’ court document from her. She dropped her claim for 35 hours per week as her husbands secretary. It was just for injury and money she had spent getting medical statements, and some other small items. Like I said earlier, my wife had heard that she been collecting invalidity benefits at the time of the alleged incident. I am not sure what the outcome would have been without the PLI, almost certainly court, but the amount awarded, if awarded, we will never know. My wife would have had to engage a solicitor or represent herself. Even to this day, we never got to the bottom of what really happened, the girls were backstage at the time. Another thing regarding the club landlord, his CCTV footage never materialised for the insurance companies (They asked several times). All in all, a strange ser of events all round.
