Slap may be out of fashion but the snobbery it evokes will never die.
Yep, along with fun poking, and p*ss taking from the opposite corner.. Like this thread for instance. Still plenty of slapping going on if you search it out. This year I have seen Marcus Miller, Will Lee, Melvin Davies and Nathan East, all still slapping away and very good too.
That's the biggest saxophone I've seen in my life. Nice vid though.
That’s Marcus & his Bass Clarinet. Some heavy weights on that stage (apart from Clapton & Miller or course). Steve Gadd, Dave Sanborn and Joe Sample (I think). Nice laid back groove...
Greg Lake's xmas song is excellent. Saw Mostly Autumn do a belting version of it a year or two ago.

'Driving home for Christmas' is a lovely song.
Agreed, nothing wrong with these two, especially compared to that drivel above from "The Showcase Showdown". ..... (IMO of course).
Swap the fedora for a fodera to be even more uncool!
I know he is from down under, but surely, even he doesn't want to walk around with a Bass Guitar on his head..... I suppose if he hangs cork from it, it would then look Australian cool.
True dat. (61 and bald... and fat)
Thank you for coming in, Mr Jenkins. You don't mind me practising while we discuss your ridiculous overdraft, do you ?
A bassist on a Dutch forum made this..excellent imo http://youtu.be/dPl6j9vv13s
Agreed, excellent. He plays well with good musicianship.

West Side Story, as some will know, Is a roast up of reading at the best of times, but this guy is a lunatic. The original score has three/four percussion players, so this one player is doing a terrific job of reading and combining all the rearranged parts. A very much condensed Am Dram band & score, struggling at times (by the sound of it), yet he marches on regardless.

Guitar Players Who Don't Get Their Due Respect
But nice to hear Vince Gill laying down some white boy blues as well... another hugely underrated guitarist, singer and writer. Damn, I hate both of them!!
Strangely enough, I was listening to Vince Gills' album 'These Days' during the week. Top, top stuff, with a lot of very nice playing all round. -
Guitar Players Who Don't Get Their Due Respect

In the UK, ‘Brent Mason’ generally slips under the radar (although there are a couple of fans here on BC). http://youtu.be/oeJHnkUKg_M -
Hi guys, I was bought a sax a number of years ago by my parents, i gave it my best shot but still couldn't play it even after everything i tried. I was wondering what it would be worth as it has not scratches or dings and has been used very little. All i can tell you about the sax is it was made by a company called focus and its a beginner saxophone. If its not worth much then ill probably just hang on to it but if its worth more than 300 or so pounds then i would be inclined to sell it. Thanks, Ben
Must be worth a Tenor ?

Voted. Well done all.
Voting closes this evening, at midnight, so there's still time to use your influence and declare your preferences.
Dad: pretty much self-explanatory 33: Country code for France, where I live 53: County code for Mayenne, where I live There were already quite a few 'Dad's of various sorts when I started out on t'web, so this was my 'claim' on uniqueness. S'been going for quite a long time now...
I remember a few years back, asking you the question. I thought it was because you had three Gibsons..
The days of lots of gigs without much travelling are long gone in the UK.
I don't think a lot of younger musicians realise or believe how much work used to be around (up until about the 90's). In London and the South East you could be out working seven nights and a couple of lunch times a week. This would be pubs, functions and small clubs, not Mecca or shows or any extra from recording dates, that all became the next stop after overseas hotels and Cruises. All you had to do was just own a Bass. Dep work was big business as well if you didn't want to be tied down. For most of us, this was a good period when all the contacts were made, and in a way made it easier for guys and girls to go on and sustain a long career as a musician. In short, there was plenty of money about. This to me, seems to be what Blue is looking for, but it's a different era, that side of the business has vanished. In a way it was an apprenticeship for getting your ears, reading and chops together, because it was constant playing and gaining experience.
Los Angeles
Correct, and Stevie Wonder wrote a song about it. "La la la la la la lala la La la la la la la lala la La la la la la la lala la La la la la la la lala la".
Not that that takes away from his talent or his untimely death, although it seems he partially brought that on himself.
Sorry dude, No one deserves to be beaten to death, because a meat head decides he ain't letting an individual into his club.

What forum do you go to first when you log on?

Recording first, then drop down to Theory & Technique, before dropping down even further to General Discussions, so I can see what strings Chuck Berry uses. -
There's so much more to sounding like someone than using the same guitar, strings, amp etc.
Or Banjo strings.... Not sure if this is true or not ? "Here’s another mind- blower: until guys like Ernie Ball came around, aspiring string-benders like Chuck Berry found a secret weapon—banjo strings. Yes, that ultimate rock tone that Chuck Berry got on songs like “Johnny B. Goode,” “School Days,” and “Sweet Little 16” was derived from 8-gauge or lower banjo strings."
Getting back to the OP, overrated by who, the public, personnel opinion or the Media? most of the answers on here seem to be personnel opinion
Agreed . I would be really interested to know how 'The Clash' changed the World though. That has made me curious, even though I am old enough to remember their popular beat combo.
You can never have too much JP.

I can.
And yet, of all the threads in the Internet world, you turn up at a Jaco thread. That's fine, as long as you don't start Wolf whistling.

My oldest is having a Jaco day. He just commented, that apart from his fabulous musicianship, Jaco was continually surrounded by high end players.(they must have enjoyed playing with him). How do you get to play in a great band ? Start one yourself and fill it with great players. Jaco certainly had an ear for wonderful players when putting together his band. The soloing on this track from Bob Mintzer and Randy Brecker is just top draw, and I love the Steelpan solo from Othello Molineaux (terrific).

He also had good arranging chops and his Piano playing was pretty decent as well. The jamming album with Pat Metheny, Paul Bley and Bruce Ditmus is an interesting listen. When he burst onto the scene, it really was a case of wow! Only a handful of other Bassists have done that for me.
