1. I was under the impression, regardless of registering a cover with a collection agency, that you will still need permission. I.E. You will need a "mechanical license". Some tunes (or their publishers) will not grant this. "The mechanical licence; To be able to release your song, you’l need something called a Mechanical Licence. This is the permission you need from the publisher for you to record and distribute the song that they own the rights to". If in doubt, always contact the publisher. In this day and age it just a simple Email.
 2. Yep, us Cubase/Steinberg/Yamaha users have the same problem. Middle C. "According to Roland it is C4, according to Yamaha it is C3, according to International Scientific Pitch it is C4." It all goes back a few years when Roland and Yamaha were competing for Midi supremacy.
 3.
From there on the trumpet player took over the horn part and "Big Band" was discovered... not a a lot of people know that.
That story about teeth and a music stand, is it a film myth or is it really true ? The Big Band had been around for a while (although in various sizes). Also, the Glenn Miller 'Signature' sound was Clarinet leading over two Altos and two Tenors. Short demonstration here, complete with music stands (they must all be deps). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf-Zj59vL5E
 4. ∆∆∆ I think you will always need permission to record other folks published music, live is different of course. Adam, some excellent info here. http://www.makeitinm...nce-cover-song/
 5.
Didn't stop him coming in too early for the middle 8 of Respect😅
6. Are you in the MU ? Maybe call them. Of course, if you know the name of the publisher, or can find out, call or Email them. After all, a lot of the Jazz standards are just covers of old show tunes which would have been cleared through publishers. Depending on how old the tune is, it might now be in the public domain (although highly unlikely, but you never know).
 7. If he has been playing the same, exact chart for 50 years, I can understand why you think you might need to ask him. But, different bands, different horn lines ups, playing different harmonies or lead parts, could mean he has played dozens of different arrangements for different size sections over 50 years. I have depped in a few pub bands over the years where the horns have never played the Otis Reading version right, then claimed to be just "doing their own thing", Perhaps your player has a thing about not messing it up.
 8.
Nope. Can listen to that for about 30 seconds. Bass players that video from the 12th feet upwards are missing the point imo.
And what point is that ? Just curious really. The guy has a few decent melodic ideas in there (playing up above the Bass Synth/lower Bass), but doesn't seem to be able to take them anywhere (as a musical piece from beginning to end).
 9.
That bass line was written by Martin Lavender
10.
Once you've learned a tune in one key it can be difficult to un-learn it.
Stay away from 'Mack The Knife'.
 11.
- This thread has gone soooo far off topic.
Yep, my fault.
 12.
Last year I learned Wichita Lineman, as it's such a nice song. Tip - it has great chords, but if you want to play along to the original, tune the whole thing down a semitone. It make the chords SO much easier to play! I found out Glen Cambell tuned down, and it makes sense from a guitar player's perspective, as everything suddenly falls under the fingers. Or just sing it in the higher key.
Great tune. Something about it that really gets me.
 13.
"Over the Rainbow" (often referred to as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow") is a ballad, with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by Yip Harburg.
I was just jesting, hence the "I will Survive" (often referred to as "Go on now go") is a Disco Tune, written by Freddie and....whoever....
 14. It's called 'Over The Rainbow'. This tune is fast becoming the new "Oi Luv, Do you know....Go On Now.....Go..?"
 15.
I've yet to hear anyone top Streisand's interpretation.
Yes, excellent. But then again, she is absolute class.
 16.

I must admit that I was slightly mythed. Just hope Ambient doesn't write anything around a noisy Cannon, because volume would be needed. But if he does, there is a man who could help.... "On the full score, I always place my cannon between the first violins and the bass drum. Since it is a "fulminating" part, the "F" clef is the most desirable for cannon notation." ~P. Tchaikovsky
 17. Stevie Wonder was using/playing an 'Harpejji'. http://www.marcodi.com I should think there is a Video of Stevie on YouTube somewhere from last night. This guy really has it nailed. It's like playing a Keyboard with vibrato... http://youtu.be/pv0q6oBmZxo
 18. I like it very much, although for me it is more of an underscore, but that doesn't distract from being well written. One thing, it is very quite, but from previous posts (IIRC if was you, or maybe I am wrong?) you like to keep it on the quite side? But that is for another thread. Good stuff.
 19. I thought the house band were excellent. Some highs and some lows and a few with tuning issues. But that is usual with these type of concerts that are thrown together at the last moment. Some manage it really well, some struggle a bit. (Imogen Heap really struggled for me). Hats off to all involved for a pretty smooth running show.
 20.
Anyone know if it's sampled or original?
Reminds me of those 80's Bass lines from the band 'Imagination'. Fretless doubling Bass Synth. http://youtu.be/d7Kl7gm3O5U http://youtu.be/CQQ2-D0eu_g
 21.
Hi Garry, i might of known you would have this here is a nice treat for you... enjoy https://www.youtube....h?v=8WbOQcSokAY
Hiya mate... Well, not seen that and yes, excellent stuff. I also just seen this from the same concert, a couple of Donald Fagen tunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH4x6ijy4fQ
 22.
Timothee http://www.youtube....h?v=nSk_dkjy3oM
I have this album...Really, really nice. Yes, Bireli Lagrene playing (brilliant) Bass and a great solo on 'Timothee'. Although, Jeff Andrews is pretty impressive on the rest of the album. Thanks for posting, I ain't heard it in ages.
 23.
Wow, that's some cracking voices they've got.
Yes, great vocals all round. Sean Kingsley is top draw. Just watched the OP video again, it's so well done.
 24. Why did you tell him ? Did the rest of the band have stick on ears as well ? Just curious really.
 25. It happens to the best of them. This must be one of the coolest recoveries ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmlYz7db-gE
