  1. the "skirt" that goes down the side of the pickup, not to accurate at all. the key to a pickup cover is that it fits around the pole pieces tight enough to make it look tidy. therefore any variation in hole size/spacing is going to be a problem.
  2. never tried. But as long as the part dosent get too hot it shouldnt matter. 3D printing by its very nature uses thermoplastics that melt "controlably" with heat. but it should be able to take a polish. a common finnish on ABS is to give it an acetone vapour path that smoothes out the surface which is usefull, but you loose some dimensonal controll. i have used TPLA for the pickup cover however.
  3. Gotta ammend the hole size and print again tonight then ill get them in th post tomorrow. as i dont have the pickup to test fit, i imagine a small amount of "fettling" may be in order.
  4. Printed another. Right way up. Worked better. More consistent finnish on the visual side. Less processing required.
  5. Melted. (Over did it a bit. Oops) Still good for a test fit tho!
  6. Nice idea. But I'd need some pretty strong magnets on the other side of the 8mm aluminium to make that work as ally isn't magnetic. And I'm not sure how that would affect the pickups at all....
  7. Was looking for the oct2 delete mod and came across this.... Square wave!!
  8. Excellent desk. U use mine both live and in the studio. Excellent value imho. Glwts
  9. Got home. Had a glass of wine and upon reflection, I now think this pickup actuation design is overengineered. There is a far simpler solution. And it takes up less space. And it's cheaper. No vibrations, allows more movement. And quicker to move the pickup. A simple recessed thumb screw through the body, securing the shuttle from the back.
  10. Bearing? There are no loads involved so I think bearings are unnecessary. The shuttle actuates through a T slot in the front body panel. To stop it falling out but even that isn't strictly necessary. What isn't shown in those pics is a housing on the back of the shuttle that will encapsulate the nut that runs on the screw.
  11. some developments today in the moving pickup design... 2x Multi start screw with thumb wheel at each end to move pickup shuttle. 1 revolituon wil be 8mm travel. im considering moving the entire mechanism to be actuated from the back of the bass for better acces, however it then opens up the opsibility of it moving unintentionally.
  12. Parts starting to arrive now (Nordstrand 3band pre in the box)

  14. NEW BODY SHAPE! the idea was to give more access to the upper frets and make the lower horn more synpathetic to the shape of the upper horn which i like. (old one for comparison in lilac)

  18. I've seen Samsara a few times. We are very lucky here in brighton to have a few really great reggae bands on the circuit. Dub organiser are also well worth a look if you are local. They put on quality live dub nights in komedia. Also definitely check out the resonators, also from Brighton. I recently made enquiries into setting up another one so watch this space....
