That headstock logo is almost as unappealing as the Bass Collection headstock logo.

I’ve happily bought basses in all three scenarios, depends where / how / when what I’m after becomes available, and how much I’m prepared to pay at the time.

The Tube, for one. The White Room too. Both shows had the bands playing 2-3 song sets, like OGWT, which I prefer to the Later... format of ‘one song and move on’.

I doubt he has any input. When the show first started in the early nineties it felt like the lineup was at least curated, to some extent, but in recent years it just feels like another record company promotional tool. Like @chris_b I’m a ‘record it and watch it on fast forward’ viewer.

I’m a massive fan of Kraftwerk and would to see them live. A friend of mine saw them a few years ago with his girlfriend (she’s a fan, he’s not). When I asked him what he’d though of it he said it was like watching four old men giving a Powerpoint presentation. She can take me next time.

XTC spring to mind. Obviously they toured extensively in their early years but post 1982 and Andy Partridge’s problems they never played live again. Kate Bush too, thirty five years between live shows. Only a short career, but Nick Drake very rarely played live. I think today if you don’t play live you don’t make a living.

Same here. I can just get all my gear into my 1 Series, with the seats down, but it’s tight. If my amp failed at a gig I’d have to go through the PA I guess.

Indeed, whichever way it goes we’ll be riding off into the sunset with our biggest single payday of the year!

I never took a spare bass to a gig until around a year ago. I’ve never needed a spare before or since but I feel much more comfortable knowing I have a backup I can grab if necessary.

Well spotted! The bass came with black strap buttons but I always fit Schaller strap locks to my basses. I had some chrome ones lying around, and I was going to buy black ones, but then I thought ‘no one’s going to see them once the strap’s attached!’ so I fitted the chrome ones.

We’re doing a 40th birthday next weekend at a local golf club. It’s a decent room, I know it from my time as a wedding photographer, and it should be a fun evening. We don’t do private events very often, as we’re not what you’d traditionally expect at a wedding, birthday etc. Despite us being approached by the client, us sending links, mp3s, reiterating our repertoire repeatedly (try saying that after a couple of Stellas..) I’m still worried that the partygoers might be expecting a traditional function band. Only one way to find out...

I replaced the stock bridge, which I wasn’t totally happy with, with a Gotoh high mass bridge. Thought you’d be interested to see this @PlasmaZombies Easy fit, all the screw holes lined up perfectly. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade as far as I’m concerned; the notes have more clarity and attach than with the old bridge. I’m not bothered about increased sustain particularly but the new bridge has improved that too. It looks great as well 😉

Why not? Essentially we’re a hobby band that plays pubs in and pretty close to our home town. We have a bit of a local following, and we treat it seriously and with professionalism, but we’re not earning a living from it or anything 😊

A song by Kasabian that I’m learning for the band. I’ve had the damn thing on repeat in the car all week trying to learn the arrangement. I bloody can’t stand Kasabian and consequently am unfamiliar with their oeuvre. Listening to them on repeat reminds me why...

My band gigs roughly once a month. I find that I really look forward to gigging when it’s once a month, it keeps it fresh and every gig is an event rather than a chore. It’s perfect for me, as it allows me time to do my other musical projects (songwriting, solo acoustic gigs, home recording etc). I have a wife and two young children and it’s good that weekends and therefore family time aren’t always eaten up by gigs. Works for me. Our singer, however, is single, has no children and would gig every night of the week if he could. He’s been asked to join another band (on rhythm guitar) and he asked me and the man who hits drums if we were ok with this? It’s cool with me; as I said I do other stuff and am in fact considering doing an acoustic duo with a female singer for occasional gigs as a sideline. As long as our band remains the priority and his other band’s activities (if he joins) don’t interfere with our activities then no problem. The man who hits drums however took it pretty badly. ‘How dare they ask you to join another band? Trying to nick our singer? It’d be like cheating on your band mates! No, if you’re in a band that’s the band you’re in and you concentrate on that...’ etc. ad infinitum. Our drummer probably ‘needs’ our band more than any of us, but nevertheless I was surprised by his outburst. As I said it’s no issue for me, as long as there’s no conflict of interests. Does anyone else have a problem with one of your band’s members being in other bands? Is it ‘cheating’, as TMWHD puts it? I’m sure many of us who are in bands do other musical projects; are your fellow band members ok with that?

Makes me realise how lucky I am to be in a band with people I actually quite like, who learn the songs they’re supposed to learn, turn up on time, don’t miss rehearsals etc. Sure, there are things I’d change if I could, but no one’s perfect, and I’m sure they’d say the same about me.

It plays very well, is very light and sounds terrific, definitely worth grabbing one if you ever get the chance.

I’ve just binge listened to whole of Spotify’s ‘Stay Free’ podcast series, the story of one of my favourite bands of all time, The Clash. It’s superbly researched and put together, and while I didn’t really learn anything I didn’t already know, I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended if you love The Clash.

Like most Rick players I’d lusted after a 4003 since childhood. I was very happy with it when I finally got one. I didn’t experience the same ergonomic issues many other do. My attitude was to accept it for what it is and embrace it’s quirkiness. I gigged it for a while but gradually came to the conclusion it just didn’t sound right for me, it didn’t have the ‘woomth’ that I need, so I sold it on. No regrets; I’m glad I owned it and I’m also glad that I finally got owning a Rick out of my system.
