  1. ‘Modern Alternative Rock and Indie Covers’ is the official line, which for us spans late ‘90s through to present day, although there are a handful of older songs in the set.
  2. Our man who hits drums has difficulty playing in the correct tempo, he always plays slightly too slow, which makes everything drag. Even the songs that start with bass, I’ll lead off at the correct speed but when he comes in he’ll be too slow which just kills the momentum. Also he has a tendency to speed up during a drum fill, so that by the time we hit the next bar he’s slightly ahead of everyone else. Very annoying.
  3. I see they’re currently offering a Precision for £55...
  4. I’ve been using a Samson USB mic for recording into GarageBand on my iPad Mini. I chose the mic because it was able to draw it’s power from the iPad - great for recording ‘in the field’. I recently updated the IOS on my iPad and guess what, the mic won’t work with it anymore. I guess the update has changed the voltage or something. So, I want to find a way to continue using my mic and iPad. I assume some kind of powered interface is required (which means no more field recordings I guess...) Can anyone recommend such an interface please?
  5. Man, these are some good looking basses. I’d never heard of Diemel before, but I stumbled across their Instagram account earlier. Serious GAS that, at that price, is unlikely to ever be fulfilled... anyone played / own one? http://deimelguitarworks.com/basses/?v=79cba1185463
  6. I’ve noticed this with my new Epiphone Dove; it sounds markedly different, better, since I bought it, brand new, four days ago. My twenty five year old Yamaha sounds amazing and is still improving all these years on. Fascinating.
  7. To save me trawling through the entire thread, has anyone from Bass Direct ever commented here on any of the posts?
  8. When I’m not playing bass I’m writing and recording songs and playing them at open mics, acoustic nights etc. The band / bass takes up most of my time so I don’t do my own stuff as often as I’d like, but I’m making a concerted effort to do more this year. I’ve started making YouTube videos too, on bass / guitar / camera subjects, which although basic is good fun.
  9. I really like Ernie Ball Earthwoods, lovely warm tone. In fact I’ve just put a set on my new Epiphone Dove, bought today 😁
  10. There’s some YouTube footage of FGTH on ‘The Tube’ circa 1984, Mark O’Toole on a Sabre if memory serves, and very decent he is too. Worth checking out.
  11. Agreed, although their quality control has taken a dive. My recent purchase was pretty shoddy, if I’m honest.
  12. I tried a Squier Affinity P Bass in GuitarGuitar Birmingham yesterday and was knocked out by it, so much so that I decided to buy it on the spot, as I’ve been looking for a cheap Precision beater for rowdy gigs and for my boy to use with his mates. Unfortunately their system was down so they couldn’t accept payments... PJ configuration, striking colour (Race Red) which might not be to everyone’s taste but I liked it; white and black also available. Slim neck too, somewhere between a P and a J. I also own a J&D Vintage 1963 Precision (just a tad over £100 from DV247) which is excellent and a worthy back up bass. Mine’s currently on long term loan with my daughters band, I might get it back one day... (J&D instruments are amazing for the price, I regularly gig my J&D Jazz alongside my Fender Jazz Deluxe, I rate them highly).
  13. I was only listening to ‘Tin Drum’ in the car today. Agreed, an exceptionally gifted and original musician.
  14. I had a little noodle on one of these in GuitarGuitar Birmingham yesterday. Sounded great, looked very cool, and I liked the very sensible pickup pan pot (the way I have my Jazzes wired). The neck wasn’t for me, but still I really liked it.
  15. Anyone listening to these guys? I’m not usually a fan of this sort of stuff, I’m usually more of a song guy, but I think this is pretty special. Amazing players all round, and Kevin Scott’s tone...
  16. One of the bands we sometimes cross paths with lost a Gibson 335 between sets. The CCTV showed someone walk into pub, lift it off the stand and walk out with it, while they were out the back having a fag. The bar staff said they’d assumed the perpetrator was with the band. I don’t think they ever got it back either.
  17. Here’s ours: https://www.tildawn.co.uk/ Our guitarist put it together on Wix; it’s not bad but it does the job. I think it was designed more to be viewed on devices, rather than on a desktop. To be honest the vast majority of our enquiries and interaction come via our Facebook page.
  18. Old thread resurrection: I’m seeing Tokai Hard Punchers coming up on eBay, new for less than £300. I assume these are inferior to the highly rated ‘80s versions? Does anyone know anything about the newer models?
  19. Our drummer wouldn’t know dynamics if it came up and kicked him in the Bollingers. See also groove, swing, feel, etc...
  20. Wow. If anyone in my band treated me as ‘the help’ they’d be on Join My Band looking for a new ‘helper’...
  21. Podcasts often talk to guests by Skype so it’s easy to get anybody on to talk; maybe some of the ‘name’ members amongst us would be willing to be interviewed?
