Randy Meisner from The Eagles. I'm currently halfway through the History of Eagles doc (highly recommended by the way) on Netflix, lots of concert footage of Randy with a Mapleglo 4001.
So, based on a question in a previous thread - are there any bands and artists whose music you still buy, probably out of loyalty, even though you know it's probably not going to be very good? For me it'll probably be Depeche Mode I'm afraid - their last album to excite me was "Ultra" but I still buy every new one when it comes out just in case and each time I end up disappointed.
Same, I love Depeche Mode and I still buy the albums, even though I haven't really liked one since Playing The Angel. The most recent one (I can't even remembered what it's called) is a stinker. PS - agreed, Ultra is a fantastic album.

Ryan Adams. I adore Ryan Adams. I think he's an absolute genius and one of the greatest songwriter ever. His songs have moved me like no other songwriter, and I have a strong emotional connection to his work. Still, he hasn't made a great album in twelve years, his gigs can be frustratingly hit and miss affairs and I genuinely believe his best work is now behind him. I hope he proves me wrong, but I keep buying his albums, which notwithstanding the occasional gem contained within, are pretty average nowadays.
I'd be interested in when you first heard Radiohead.
I liked them from the start. We used to go and watch them in Oxford when they were still called On A Friday. A friend of mine was friends with Colin Greenwood so there was a slight connection. I remember there was a lot of, perhaps jealousy is the wrong word, but negativity from some of the other bands around when they signed with EMI in 1991. I liked them, but I remember being slightly underwhelmed by Pablo Honey. The Bends was the one that really got me though, and made me think that they were on to something. I loved pretty much everything they've done ever since. I last saw Colin Greenwood in the bar at a Neil Finn gig in Oxford in 1998. He didn't remember me though haha.

I couldn't stand Muse when they first emerged in the late '90s. I had them down as petulant Radiohead wannabes. Now they're one of my favourite bands.
90 minutes? Is that all you get? I love the Stone Roses but that's a bit of a feeble set....
I'd imagine a lot of their audience only really want to hear the first album.

I bought a very good quality trolly from Homebase, approximately £20, to put my Ashdown 4x10 combo on, which weighed more than a collapsed star. I was very impressed with it (the trolly that is, not the combo...)
Mines modded & first rehearsal last night .. very pleased
I'm very much enjoying mine. What have you done to it, beyond the cosmetic stuff?
One of my first ever gigs; 27 years ago this month at Maysfield Leisure Centre, Belfast. Superb in so many ways.
Almost the same for me; 28 years, almost to the day, that I saw them in Stratford upon Avon at the Civic. Very short set as I recall.
It says roundwood in the ad and on the packet.
So it does.... I'd searched for flatwound. Well spotted! *books appointment at Specsavers*

I'm intrigued by these... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000VTBP5O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_3PSszbBYRC4SH I suspect for £12 a set they're not up to much, but has anyone any experience of them? I'm dipping my toe in the flatwound world and as a 'suck it and see' excercise on my cheapo Jazz Bass copy I wonder if they're worth a punt?

Definitely get a nice Western Shirt ☺

Anyone going to see Hadrien Feraud tonight?
BrunoBass replied to MoJoKe's topic in General Discussion
I had planned to, being just down the road from me, but getting back late from work scuppered that one. I'm not familiar with the bassist in question. Hope you had a good night. -
FiddleBop at 6.30.
Ah I'd gone by then. You must've ended up headlining then, the original headliner pulled out. Hope it went well ☺
We did a freebie yesterday for Party in the Park at Adderbury in the acoustic tent. I was tuning my double bass when the sound guy came over and said 'I just want to hear how it sounds before I mix it'. Well that's a first for me, so a big shout for soundman Andy. PS, the mix was excellent.
Which band mate? I popped down in the afternoon before my evening gig in Deddington 🙂

Please tell me why I should avoid getting a Rickenbacker!
BrunoBass replied to Al Krow's topic in Bass Guitars
I was interested to see how the prices for new 4003 basses from UK retailers compare to prices from US dealers (minus shipping and import taxes). I looked at the websites of Sweetwater and Sam Ash (US equivalents of say GuitarGuitar or PMT) and both were POA. I have no intention of buying from a US dealer, I'm just intrigued to know what price difference, if any, there is. Anyone know? -
We did an early gig tonight, 7-8pm at a private function, a summer party for a local business. The room was like an oven, and there was a barbecue and bar outside. No prizes for guessing where nearly everybody was for the duration of our set... Everyone came in for the first song (70-80 people?) but soon we were playing to six people, two of whom were toddlers. Oh well, it was a good payer, and I was home by 9 for a Chinese and a few cold ones.

Sounds like a great way to spend a beautiful summers afternoon.

Looks great. The pink one (Rickenbacker subsequently published a photo of it on their Facebook page) looks incredible, I think. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1422272431189737&substory_index=0&id=235019996581659

A friend of mine bought one in 1995, as we were putting a band together and he fancied having a go. He gave it up, but as far as I know he still has the bass somewhere. It was red with a while scratchplate. For a beginner bass it was ok, as I recall, but today's equivalents from the likes of J&D and Harley Benton are far superior.

My Stingray is two years old and the build quality is 99% perfect. The only tiny niggle I had is that the metal control plate had a very small area of it's edge that was rough and poorly finished. Quickly remedied with a metal nail file though.

I don't really get why people wouldn't buy a Rick because the CEO of RIC is apparently a first class knob; I think Gordon Ramsay is an idiot but I still eat in his restaurant. My issue with Rickenbacker is the price. I love them by the way: I love the looks, I love the sound, I like the chunky neck, I just don't think they're worth £2k+ I've never owned a 4001 / 4003 but I borrowed a 4003S for a while, and I also used to own a 360 back in my guitar days. Both were pretty shoddy in terms of their fit and finish; creaky plastic, gaping joints, bulging foam from under the pickups, inconsistency in resistance of the pots (some would spin freely, some were stiff), impossible to keep in tune. Sure, they're amazing instruments, but the build quality of my Stingray is way superior, and it cost half of what a 4003 would. If 4003s where priced somewhere around the thousand pound mark I would get one, without a doubt. From my experience they are a £1000 instrument, based on the build quality I've encountered. Mind you, an ex girlfriends father had a Ferrari 360 and that was a heap of junk. -
A candy apple red Patrick Eggle New York bass which I won in a Melody Maker competition in 1995. I sold it in 2000 when I needed the money. It was tbe best bass I'd ever played and I bitterly regret selling it now. I'd love to find another one.

Right, I finally got round to setting up El Cheapo tonight, and whilst I was at it I loosened off the E and pushed the ball end away from the bridge to release any twist that might have occurred. The ball end righted itself immediately and upon tuning back to pitch the weird oscillating sound was gone. Thanks for the advice. The nut incidentally is one of the things that impresses me the most about this budget bass. The material is undoubtably low quality but the cut (both height and width) and the angle is spot on. I still can't believe how good this bass is for £109...
