2. Nice diverse lineup, looks like a great festival. What's the name of your band Blue?
3.
Got the books down off the shelf for you. I thought I had three different ones but it turns out that two are the same except that one has a play along CD for the bass duets if you aren't up to playing both parts simultaneously as I've seen on YT clips. If you want the one without the CD I'd be happy to send it to you. PM me to sort out the postage expenses if you want it. J. S. 4.
I liked Thundercat. Didn't see Goldfrapp. Will wait for the full episode. What I think is missing from Later... is rock. There used to be way more good rock bands on there when i was young. And I think in general on TV.
Couldn't agree more. Rock is massive in both the mainstream and the undercurrent yet Later... continually chooses to ignore it. I think Metallica were on once, but where are the others? Where are the new rock bands like Bring Me The Horizon? Maybe they've been on and I've missed them. Anyway, this weeks show: Goldfrapp - did not a lot for me. Thundercat - I want to like it what with him being a high profile bassist but again it just does nothing for me. Kasabian - can't stand them despite my band mates continually trying to shoehorn their dirges into our set. I lost interest after that. Yawn.
5. In my opinion, the greatest pop song ever written. Solid gold pop perfection, I reckon. http://youtu.be/xFrGuyw1V8s
6.
+1 for In My Life.
+1 more for In My Life, and many many more songs by that wonderful band.
7. When someone comes up to you in the street and says 'are you that guy from..?'
8.
99.99% of the audience/other musicians either can't tell a Limelight from a Fender or more usually, don't care...
Totally this. It's only other musicians who notice. I've never understood how the likes of Limelight can legally sell an instrument with another companies logo, but that's another thread.
9.
I've bought a couple of books of tab arrangements of J.S. Bach for bass. If you can't find any yourself message me and I'll get you some more information. It's cracking stuff but you need to be a bit more applied than myself.
Thank you
10. Thanks all, plenty to investigate 🙂
11.
The OP doesn't say if this is covers or originals. I find the choice of songs that can be played well as a 3 piece covers band frustrating.
It's covers. But as a lot of the songs we do are by bands with one guitar player (Muse, Green Day, Biffy Clyro etc, or in the case of Royal Blood, no guitar player haha) it shouldn't be a problem. Songs with additional guitar parts can be adapted, or dropped if necessary.
12.
Yeah it's great. The best bit is that the guitarist understands EQing and space and makes sure not to trample over my space in the audible spectrum. Happy days.
This is key.
13.
Hi Paul, Having heard you guys, I suspect being in a three piece will suit you (and the rest of the band)
I'm looking forward to it Mark, I think having the extra space is going to work well.
14. Our rhythm guitarist has just left the band, which leaves a three piece line-up of drums, guitar / vocal, bass / bv's. We're probably going to continue as a trio rather than replace him; I'm sad he's leaving but on the other hand I'm relishing suddenly having all that space to play in, and the changes I'm going to have to make (bigger sound, more bv's) and the rethink of our set his departure will necessitate. Has anyone had to make similar changes when a guitarist has left a band, or already plays with a stripped down, one-guitarist band?
15. If you've put together a physical EP, then there is a case for selling it. For just one song though, it makes sense to offer a free download or stream.
16. Talk Talk have indeed done some amazing work, Spirit of Eden and The Colour of Spring are both perennial favourites of mine. (I sold a TR-808 to Mark Hollis back in the eighties by the way).
17.
Phew! When I saw this topic, I thought he'd died.
😂
18. Guided By Voices have albums full of songs with cool titles, too many to list here!
19. I sometimes hear bass players making reference to Bach's compositions as being the birthplace of the bassline, and the influence that his work has on modern bass playing. Despite having an encyclopaedic knowledge of rock music I know relatively little about classical music, other than knowing what I like and little else (Satie, Holst, Faure, Greig, Saint-Saens). I'm always looking to broaden my musical horizons so can anybody point me in the direction of some of Johann Sebastian's best bass-y tunes?
20. Having seen him last night it seems it's a combination of severe carpal tunnel syndrome and a nerve problem, in both wrists and hands. His left hand is more effected, but his right hand is permanently very warm to touch. He's going to get a second opinion to see if it can be treated, if not cured.
21. Manic Street Preachers (whom I not knocking because I'm a big fan) have just released a remastered edition of an album that was only released in 2007. I mean, come on... https://www.manicstreetpreachers.com/cat-news/send-away-tigers-10-year-collectors-edition/
22. Our lead guitarist has been suffering pain in both hands and wrists for a few months. During our gig last weekend I could see he was suffering and after the gig I asked him if he was ok. He confessed that he'd been really struggling for a while, and that for our last few gigs he'd been in agony and had decided to see a doctor. Anyway, the doctor has advised him to stop playing immediately or risk permanent damage, it's that serious. Obviously this news has a big impact on his life firstly, but also for our band. We're all gutted, he's devasted, as any one of us would be if we were told we couldn't play bass anymore. We met up tonight to talk about how we proceed, and we've decided to carry on, with his blessing, either as a three piece, or with a replacement guitarist (if we can find one). What a bloody shame.
23. What's the little amp Joe is using in their studio videos, it looks like a Roland - anyone know?
24.
Roadworn!
The epitome! This is back in Paul's possession now, he's got in on display in his house.
25. A massive influence on me, The Clash, my second favourite band of all time. I still listen to them regularly. Seeing Paul Simenon with that low slung Precision bass stoked my early interest in the instrument. I always thought that their debut album was let down a bit by the production though, despite the energy and the great songs. If only it'd had the same punch and edge that Bill Price and Chris Thomas gave to Never Mind The Bollocks...
