I bought a new EBMM Stingray from PMT in January 2016. I sent the serial number to the Ernie Ball forum to obtain it's 'birthday' and was informed that it was completed and shipped to the UK distributor in April 2010. I guess it's been hanging around a warehouse all that tine. I'll admit I was a bit surprised by the space between the bass being shipped and me buying it as a 'new' instrument, but does it really matter to me? No.

Not great. We played at The Bell in Banbury, to about 8-10 people at best, very quiet. There were several covers bands on in town last night, as well as a '90s one hit wonder so competition was stiff. One of our guitarists had amp problems all night which set the tone for a frustrating evening; little issues here and there, timing problems, people getting lost, all of which are probably imperceptible to our 'audience' but soon mount up and frustrate the hell out of me. I gave my new Genz Benz rig its live debut, but it's hard to judge how it sounded with two Marshall / humbucker equipped guitarists to battle through. Tweaking the eq between every song soon became tiresome. I couldn't wait to get home and if I'm honest I'm getting fed up with the whole bloody thing. Sorry to be negative.

Playing in a rock covers band as I do, I use pedals that will help me approximate the bass tone of the song we're covering. I use a bass overdrive (Ibanez Phat Hed) for a few songs, and a Big Muff (for the two Muse songs we do). I've never felt the need for anything else, but obviously it depends on the genre you're playing. Other than that a very slight amp crunch works for me. For my own stuff, I use no effects at all, just the pure eq'd sound of the bass.

I've only become aware of Vulfpeck in the last few months and have been digesting their back catalogue ever since. Joe Dart is indeed an amazing bass player. I find a lot of 'muso' bands to be pretentious and worthy, but Vulfpeck seem to do everything with a lot of colour and humour, I'm a fan.

[/quote] I suspect there is a certain amount of snobbery involved in this argument (not just on this forum, but generally). Indie / alternative rock / guitar band music (or whatever anybody wants to call it) is looked down on by some people owing to it's format, whereas jazz is probably considered more valid or legitimate by some, owing to it's emphasis on virtuosity.

Not necessarily every gig, but people are often surprised to learn that my wife doesn't go to at least most of them. I don't know why. If she was in a gigging band would I go to every gig she played? Probably not.

Modern rock / indie covers. Free entry. We've played here a couple times before, good venue and a great crowd.

My wife rarely comes to our gigs, mainly because the kind of places we play are not the kind of places she wants to come to. It doesn't bother me at all. As someone said earlier in the thread, having kids limits spousal gig attendance, but she will often come to the festivals we play or some other family friendly event. My five year old son however has been bitten by the bug having seen us play for the first time last summer. The look of joy on his face at experiencing loud, live rock music for the first time will stay with me forever.
