Aw, soz. I hope I didn't come across as being overly patronising. I'll never understand how folk get on doing everything through a pocket sized screen.
Not at all! I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction 😊 I access Basschat from my phone or iPad 99% of the time.

For sale is my Ashdown 4x10 combo. It's a fine amplifier but it's not really right for the band I'm in at the moment, so I'm moving it on. It's in immaculate condition, with no significant marks or dings that I can see. It sits on a wheeled dolly for ease of movement so I'll chuck that in too. Offers invited. It's too heavy to post so I'd prefer collection but I could possibly deliver within a reasonable distance for fuel money, or could arrange to meet. I'm based in Banbury, Oxfordshire. I'll add some photos later, thanks for looking.
Hiram's band name is just above your post. It is hypertext linked.
Thanks, I can't see that on the mobile version

We played a private party on Saturday night, just a 45 minute set in a small hotel bar / function area, weirdly half underground as the building is built on a hill. Very hot and sweaty, about a hundred people squashed in with a small dancefloor in front of us. Great fun, everyone dancing, from toddlers to grandparents.
Very kind of you to say so sir.
What's the name of your band? We've had Timmy Stardust play in town recently, and Hunky Davie are playing locally soon.

As someone who plays at acoustic nights and open mics with my "original" songs on a regular basis I can indeed say that house cajon players, bass players etc are incredibly off-putting when they're trying to accompany you on a song they've never heard before.

I sing backing vocals in my band, the lead guitarist and I share duties so that I do the BVs when he's got a more complicated part to play and vice versa. It's no problem for me to sing when playing root notes, it becomes more difficult as the basslines get more melodic.

We played at the Punch Bowl in Warwick last night, having been asked back after our first gig there in the summer. My first gig with my recently acquired Ashdown MAG300 4x10 combo. I spent the whole night trying to get myself heard through the mix, partly down to overall volume and partly down to my amp just underperforming, disappointingly. I was quite happy with my performance but as a band we had a few, er, timing issues which are frustrating. On the upside we got rebooked for later in the year, and I met Markstuk of this parish, who made the effort to come out and say hello.
80% off what comprises our set list isn't what I would choose to listen to at home, so consequently I'm not that into a lot of the songs we play. The songs I really enjoy playing though are: Psycho by Muse Out Of the Black by Royal Blood (Both drop D so we run them into each other and they both rock) Otherside by RHCP (Nice groove, little bass solo in the middle and I do backing vocals) Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis (Not particularly challenging to play but it's usually our last song and it never fails to get everyone up dancing).
On the same page for a couple of quid more, I actually like the look of this.
I was very close to buying this instore when I got the dolly. It claims 70kg but it actually felt pretty flimsy when I opened it out. The footplate didn't seem very substantial.

I thought I'd share this with you all. I recently acquired a 4x10 combo that weighs more than a collapsed star and was thinking of ways to easily transfer it to my car. I found this, less than £20 and it fits exactly the footprint of the combo. It's good for 150kg and I'm absolutely made up with it! Despite my initial excitement I'm finding I'm not using my Rockinbetter as much as I'd hoped; it's too heavy and the 34" scale is uncomfortable. Shame, as it sounds amazing. The scale I can probably live with, the weight on my dodgy shoulder for a two hour gig I can't. Maybe a comfort strap is the answer?

Why is the Musicman Stingray SR4 cheaper than others?
BrunoBass replied to DDR's topic in Bass Guitars
They come in a variety of different specs notably with either a 2 or 3 Band EQ (3 or 4 knobs!), and prices will vary depending on which one you choose (the 2 EQ cost more for some reason). They also come with a maple or rosewood neck.
The SR4 that the OP refers to comes in limited colours and rosewood neck only, and only in 2eq spec. The more expensive 2eq model you refer to is the Stingray Classic I think, which is a reissue of the original pre Ernie Ball model from the 70s. There are a couple of 'Ray experts on here that will know more than I do. -
Thanks guys! @paulgibsonbass you dig it? Does, in your opinion, the Poplar body do anything to the sound that is not quite up there with the rest?
I majorly dig it. It's my main gigging bass, fairly light, US build quality and all the 'Ray tone you want. Like you I'm comfortable with a P neck and this is a dream to play. I don't find the 2eq limiting in any way over the 3eq, and I personally don't feel the need to spend another £500 for a mid eq pot. My only niggle is that I'd prefer a maple neck but when you look at what you get for a grand it's impressive. I love mine. -

BrunoBass replied to DDR's topic in Bass Guitars
Seems to be just the fact that the SR4 is made in limited range of colours only, all with rosewood fingerboard only, has a 2 band EQ, and comes in a gig bag instead of a hard case. That's it as far as I can tell.
I think they have a poplar body too. I own one and I'm sure that's what the guy in the shop said. -
There's a lot of love on Basschat for Harley Benton basses, particularly their cheapo PB51, but what of J&D basses? Do they stack up against HB? Has anyone done a direct comparison? http://www.dv247.com/guitars/jandd-yc-pb-4-string-bass-guitar-white--210979 Even the if the hardware is dodgy, £79 for a solid alder body makes this a great project bass.

My first gig as a bass player was Brackley Rugby Club, sometime late '80s I think. I used my Squier Silver Series Precision (so wish I'd kept that...) into a borrowed Carlsboro amp (I think) that sounded terrible. No pedals, just straight in. I don't remember how I tuned, probably to the guitarist, and he probably tuned by ear.

Played through an Ampeg 8x10 last night...
BrunoBass replied to julesb's topic in General Discussion
One of the bands that shares our rehearsal space leaves their Ampeg SVT and 8x10 there. I'd never touch it without asking permission as that'd be very poor form, but by God I'm tempted!
