1. Figure It Out by Royal Blood just recently. Builds nicely and not too taxing from a playing point of view so it's a nice way to ease into a set of slightly overdriven finger style 8ths and 16ths...
 2.
Been some threads on these if you do a search. Heavy is an understatement, seem to remember Andy Travis may have had one, you could PM him?
I though there might have been, I searched for 'acrylic' but nothing relevant came up 😊
 3.
And 0% available now to really get the GAS going.
I think the 0% finance only applies if you're 25 or under. If you are 25 or under then I'm extremely envious on both counts... 😊
 4. I recently saw an acrylic bodied bass on eBay which caught my eye, mainly for an upcoming photoshoot we've got planned. It got me wondering how it might sound though... I'm no expert but I'd expect solid acrylic to be dense (and heavy) and I'd imagine it to sound bright. Anyone got experience of such weirdness?
 5. We started off slow (a couple of weeks ago we only had one booking) but recently we've got quite a few more in and now it's looking pretty good. We've secured 'second on the bill' at a popular local festival too which is great news.
 6. My wife sat through the Indy 500 (a three - four race at best) plus a four hour break whilst it rained with me a few years ago, so I think I owe her the occasional Ronan Keating gig.
 7.
I spend time with her parents...
😂
 8.
Further to the young kids old bands discussion, my son (16) has just got back from a weekend of seeing Avenged Sevenfold in London and A Day To Remember in Cardiff and announced the band he really wants to see is Black Sabbath.
My daughter was at the A Day To Remember / New Found Glory show in Cardiff too. Her and her band mates (all late teens / early twenties) all love Bring Me The Horizon, Avenged, etc, but also Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, even Blue Cheer. Like your boy, there're plenty of youngsters that appreciate the music and influence of the old bands 😊
 9.
I know a bass builder who was underwhelmed by the reality of owning a Wal vs the dream.
Same with Rickenbacker for me 😊
 10.
Any lovers of the talented Barry Adamson ? Fantastic twanging on the live ' Play ' album around 1980 Unusally he played an Ovation ( a Mk 1 or 2 maybe.... not a 3 or 4 cos i had one - different shape ) , not a prolific model of bass for players of the fat string Still... might as well give Adamson some air time. Give Me Everything from PLAY. What a riff ...
Is that the same bass that Jah Wobble plays/played?
 11.
two that come to mind instantly, that went into agriculture.. #Terminator X left Public Enemy to go into ostrich farming Big Martin, ex Faith No More guitarist is a pumpkin farmer
Anyone mentioned Bill Berry from R.E.M.? Retired to be a hay farmer.
 12.
He had some brief success post DP with a band called Captain Beyond.
Worth checking out a great track by them called Dancing Madly Backwards. Like a proto Queens of the Stone Age.
 13. Same as you, 100s. Usually Ernie Ball Super Slinky's. Not that I regularly change them though.
 14.
Fergal Sharkey, after leaving the Undertones and a short solo career, didn't leave the music industry, but worked for some Government QUANGO to do with the industry bit never performed again AFAIK
He worked in A&R for one of the majors too.
 15.
Elbow ,asleep in the back ,a very dark album ,especially, powder blue . Which mr Garvey wrote about two drug addicts he observed one day while in the pub ,a tragic love story, a modern day Romeo and Juliet
It's a fantastic album. Scattered Black and Whites is one of the most touching songs I know.
 16. Personally I can't imagine how this utter pile of tripe got made, released and even sold enough to get into the charts http://youtu.be/1LaY1qXt9K4
 17. Where in town was it located? EDIT: Ah ok, I just expanded the image and saw the address 😊
 18.
Every Kasabian album. Seriously, one ok single and they're hailed as "rock gods"??? My @rse!
My band mates love Kasabian and we have several of their songs in our repertoire. I think they're dreadful.
 19.
This is too easy. We all have stuff we don't like. Anything by, etc... More interesting would be crap critically acclaimed albums by artists we do like. I love the Clash but I can't stand Combat Rock. Pretend arty fartyness with Alan Ginsberg, Spliffed up Strummer songs rambling on and that bleeding Should I Stay Or Should I Go fluff.
I love Ryan Adams and listen to him almost everyday, but his Cardinology album is leaden, lumpy, half arsed stoner rock. It's never good when the album of outtakes ('III/IV') is better than the actual album. I still think he's a genius though!
 20.
One of My all time favourites. One I often return to. Try 'slim slow slider' as an introduction. Listen a few times, have a drink, relax. Then try 'beside you' if you aren't hooked after a few listens then I accept it's not for you but at least we tried.
Oh, we've tried, believe me. Being of the opinion that the best albums only truly reveal themselves after repeated listening I have persevered.
 21.
Donald Fagen, The Nightfly. Think I'm the only muso ever who doesn't like this. Those irritating 'clever' songs played so perfectly with no soul/feel. Liked early Steely Dan stuff, but then it all ended up sounding like this.
Agreed, music as a technical exercise.
 22. To qualify my earlier post: I always used to look at those '100 Greatest Albums' lists that the likes of Q used to publish (they may still do for all I know, I avoid Q these days...) and used to pride myself on my familiarity and / or ownership of the majority of the albums in the list. If there were any i didn't know I would buy them and see why they were considered great. I discovered some great albums that I mightn't have heard otherwise (Catch A Fire, Bitches Brew, Marquee Moon) but also some that I found nothing to enjoy about, like Astral Weeks, which I found utterly impenetrable. I never cared for Pet Sounds much either, other than God Only Knows.
 23.
I've just bought 3 rolls of Ilford XP2 black and white film. Going to take my Nikon F4 on my Aberystwyth to Haarlem road trip this week.
I still shoot with film regularly, alongside digital. I develop my own negs too. I love Ilford, HP5 or FP4 for me 😊
