I think the Blueburst looks very nice indeed. It seems to be a classy combination of striking finish, classic P bass, and age. It seems to give the bass an early 60s Burns look in my opinion I also think the changes, although perhaps not desirable on the collector market, might well indicate that it's a good instrument. It plainly hasnt been sat under the bed because it's too heavy/ a bit of a dog/ doesnt cut it in a band. Good instruments get used, and it may be that only for a bass with good playability, would previous owners have gone to the effort and expense of adding these cosmetic changes, in my opinion. I also have a 76 P. It's been stripped, had a tortie replacement, rewired, had the hell knocked out of it at some time and probably replacement knobs. It is set up beautifully, as only a professional would have done, and there is strong evidence that it came out of London having done the rounds on the session/theatre circuit . However, it's the most easy playing , well balanced, sweetest classic P Ive played. It's the one I always go back to, even though I have tried many different and more expensive basses. My message is to go and try these instruments, you'd be surprised how good they can be. Just my take on things

I bought some PJ gear from Tim recently. He allowed me plenty of time to try it out, and they were straightforward, completely hassle-free transactions in both cases. Tim is a gent and an absolute pleasure to deal with.

Seb sold me his Rick 3001. Buying a bass at distance isnt easy, for the buyer or seller, but despite my OCD approach to authenticity and fine detail, Seb patiently gave me straight answers to every detail I asked for. And lo when it arrived the bass was absolutely as good as he said. He literally went another 20 miles for me, travelling to another town to pick up a box to ensure it was safely packed. A real nice guy, and a credit to the basschat community.
Hi there - the finish is of course original, but I'm not certain about the azure/midnight nomenclature. Probably why I called it Blue What I can say about the perceived radiance (presuming you mean colour vibrancy) is my choice of lighting for the shots has a direct bearing on the photographic outcome. The difference, for example, in the first shot with the model and the individual close-ups illustrates this quite dramatically. Again, if I was to shoot this low-key it could appear almost black, hi-key and a much lighter, paler blue would result - but the intent is to show the beauty and finish as best I can. I hope that helps!
Thats great , thanks, and possibly the most technically competent answer I've ever had on the subject of colour. Beautiful indeed ! -

Nice bass ! I have a Q on the colour. Azureglo or midnight blue ? The colour seems intensely radiant for azure, as the azure Ricks Ive seen personally have been much duller....yet I dont think midnight blue was out that year?. Im confused, but this is normal for me. Any experts on Rick colours out there please ? PS Presume the colour is original ? -
Surprised no one has gone for this one yet, nice looking and a really solid bass, what kind of ballpark offers are you looking for Colin?
Me too.....OK ..... it's time to grasp the nettle by the horns....... Big price drop to £525 This is for a USA G&L that's light, more versatile than an SR or a P bass, has massive tone, and apart from a couple of knocks and the smallest ding, is pretty much pristine. Oh, and you get the original case and paperwork as well If it doesnt go at this price, Im keeping it !
