Bought a Phil Jones 4B cab form Ruairidh. I was travelling to Scotland without a bass so it was important his description was accurate. He was completely honest and straightforward and appraised it critically, in fact the cab was better than I had envisaged, almost pristine, . He also gauged and described the tone in detail - i dodnt have chance to try it but when I got home it was exactly as he had said. He also kindly delivered it to the hotel. What a star ! Overall he made the transaction very easy, and was a great guy to deal with.
+1 sits in its own space in a band mix and I think they have quite a unique sound. passive/series is a great fingerstyle funk tone on the L1500. I also love playing mine with a pick,it cuts through a lot more than the L-2000.
Thanks DJ. I had a few emails asking about the neck......its a sort of P bass profile, not narrow and certainly not mega thin. I suspect the mass contriburtes to the solid tone. Presently set to a low action. Smoothly varnished ( no problems of the dirty fingerboards that you get on MM gun oiled necks) and I find it smooth and fast to play. Bank holiday bump and I'm open to offers
I've played this & its nice! could well be worth a punt!
For those who've never tried one of these, I would recommend it. Has the power of a musicman but with a greater variety of tones. The L1500 is not a one pickup G&L L2000 either. It's more aggressive and powerful, and of course you have the space and freedom between the neck and pickup to slap. At lower volumes will remove hardened earwax from the landlord's ears, and at high volume likely to disembowel cats. One of my fave basses. Only selling because I have acquired the special bass of my dreams, an Alembic.

American made G&L L-1500 in tobacco sunburst . Excellent glossy condition, with original case. It's is a USA made bass, not a tribute series Searching the web tells me that this is the G&L equivalent of the sterling. Tone is precise, full and aggressive - an apparently well known charactersitic of the L-1500 . Neck and headstock are unmarked ( as far as I can see). Metal work is as bright as new, The body is glossy and has three dings - Ive photo'd them as best I can - a small one by the pick up, a 3x5mm dink and an elogated indentation near the strap button. The bass has hardly been used by me, or the previous owner, who was a local guy who got it from new. Label on the back gives the original price as £1079. Comes with original G&L case with one one loose button underneath but otherwise in excellent condition Weight : 8.8 lb ( by my bathroom scales) Colour : The sunburst is less garish than in the photos Date : difficult . Its a CLF serial number which seems to be late 90s early 2000s No trades (unless you have some Phil jones gear ) and I will entertain offers on the asking price of £599

Chris introduced me to the delights of Alembic by selling me his. It was a straightforward and easy transaction and a real pleasure. The bass was honestly described and Chris gave me enough time to compare with my current basses and come to a good decision, which I know I wont regret. I would certainly buy or trade again. Chris also kindly shared his knowledge of local luthiers, and taught me much about strings. A mine of useful information and best of all, a great guy to meet.
I was really pleasantly surprised by it as it was one I hadn't originally considered, a very ballsy useable sound, also a really easy player, I'd hold on to it but I've got a new Shuker coming in so need to free up some cash.
I tried this bass last week, and it's an absolute cracker ! Very playable and in superb condition. I can also vouch for Chris as being one of the best to deal with.

Musicman Stingray Fretless 2-eq - £800.
loweringthetone replied to AndyBavington's topic in Basses For Sale
Few fretless electric basses are as flat-out cool or have as much powerful tone as the Music Man StingRay. Introduced in 1976, the StingRay was the first bass guitar to feature active electronics and advancements such as a 6-bolt neck joint, contoured body, superior neck truss-rod system, and rock-solid bridge, all of which keep it on top of the pack. The StingRay is constructed with a select natural hardwood body w/ black scratchplate, unlined Pau-Ferro neck, Schaller BM tuners, 2-band active EQ, and a MusicMan humbucking pickup. Collection from London is preferred but am open to meet half way if outside. Message me with any questions.
Welcome to the site ! Serial, age , any mods or refinishing Andy ? Important information for prospective buyers. Thanks Colin -
Rickenbacker 4003 -- In glorious Fireglow
loweringthetone replied to 2x18's topic in Basses For Sale
Best colour for Rics IMO... good luck, I imagine this wont be here for long...
Absolutely +1 . Fireglow, love it, utterly iconic, Rickenbacker produce special colours (said to be 'limited editions') each year and because people and dealers see them as new 'collectibles', they ask silly prices, but they dont play any better. The Fireglow however, goes on and on. This is the classic colour that looks so spectacular on stage. (OK....rant over.....I just hate new collectables.....sorry ......I'll shut up now.....promise) Nice to see it going for a very good price . Grab it while you can ! Bump for a Classic -

G&L L-2000 (USA!) Lined fretless
loweringthetone replied to knuffelbeeuwtje's topic in Basses For Sale
Hi Joachim. A warm welcome to basschat ! There quite a few things we would like to know. 1. Which model is it , an SB-2 ? 2. Could we have some pictures of the front , headstock and metalwork please ? 3. Does it have a case 4) Is it the UK ? 5) How heavy is it - G&Ls can be sometimes a little heavy. Sorry for asking all these questions in one post, but they are the sort of things most people might want to know, and will help sell your bass. Good luck ! -
Another legacy item from my string box. These are as new. I remember mounting them on a P-bass and removing them after about 10 minutes - soft feeling slick strings but sounded too different to my normal elites for my liking. They are the Polyweb type, not the later Nanoweb. Cost me £24.95 at the time. £12.00 posted within the UK.
Shame my set hadn't arrived this morning as I'd have probably had the full set and the singles off you.. need to see how they'd fit the Bolin.
From the other posts, I can see you've had fun finding strings for your Bolin. See how you go with the first set, and the we can discuss the singles if you feel they are the strings for you-hoo. PS Hope you got my mail saying they were being posted today. If not, my apologies.
