    You may want to have a look at the Squier Precision Special. Has a jazz pickup in the bridge, and a precision pickup in the usual position. Best of both worlds!! The neck is quiet slim, very similar to a Jazz bass, and the bass is pretty light. Might be out of your price range, if you want an amp as well. If you can stretch your budget, also have a look at the Yamaha RBX range and maybe the BB414 bass.

    I'd step back in time to the mid to late eighties.... £20k in Musical Exchanges. Early seventies Precisions starting at £299, just buy the lot!!!! Nice collection of Jaydees, they had as well.

    Out of the three choices, i'd recommend the Peavey, as it's the only one i've used. And very good it is too!!

    If it's a blues type, say in G. Just do chromatic runs up to C etc. Also play the fifth below the root if you can..... That's about as far as my country and western knowledge goes. Have a listen to some early Johnny Cash on youtube.
