Played one for a few weeks. As mentioned before, they're very strange to play/adjust to. Once mastered, they do sound great. If you do get one with the silicone strings, rub talc on the strings and board as it cuts down on the friction between the strings and your fingers.... Unless you like burned finger tips!!!!!

This was featured in Bass Player a couple of years ago. It was built to celebrate Ritter's 10th anniversary, with a customer already lined up for it!!! At the time it was supposed to have cost $100k.....

Always have a good idea of the bass sound you want/use. If you're recording digitally and you want an ampeg sound ask the engineer before hand what plug-ins he has, for example.

Try out the Yamaha BB414. I use one for the more intimate stage size gigs and it's rather spiffing. The P+J pickup arrangement will suit pretty much anything and the neck is really comfortable.
