find out the venue capacity, how many are expected and if they're charging on the door/by ticket and go for approx 70% of that. Failing that, at least £100 per band member. Always worked for me.

Another idea!! If you've got an old four string youlike the neck on, get it set up for the bottom four strings of a five string set, ie B E A D. I did it for metal band and it sounded great. You won't have to change pickups or hardware either!!!
