  1. That silver panelled one is my new R-400. Paid for and now waiting for the FedEx man to show up.
  2. The point is that not a single one of the punters paying to see you play gives a rats about the grill and logo. It's the sound and your groove they care about.
  3. I trust your testing was done with the cabs in different positions? As in A/B as your pic, then A/B with the Ashdown on the bottom?
  4. I told Leszek I wanted either a black or grey panel with white chickenhead knobs, but he said he can't fit chickenheads because there's not enough room. I told him to use his own judgement,so he's sending me a photo for my approval. His customer service is awesome.
  5. I run two One10s with a GK MB800, and almost exclusively play upright bass these days. There is so much bass in these cabs that I usually run the bass knob on the GK around 10 o'clock. If the Two10 has more bass response, well it seems to be a non-issue to me. Thus the One10 is a more versatile cab as it can be used on its own for small (even not so small) gigs. My HandBox R-400 amp is nearly finished, so looking forward to that arriving and pairing with the Barefaced cabs.
  6. Yay! Leszek emailed me to say my R-400 is just about ready to ship, just sorting the cosmetics.
  7. Greenboys have a very sweet midrange, as in sweet sounding. They will put out whatever you put in, a Puma 900 or GK MB800 are perfect amps for those cabs.
  8. What it sounds like to you on stage is largely irrelevant. What it sounds like out in the audience is what counts. A 30ft lead or a wireless is the only test for a cab, so you can hear what the audience is hearing.
  9. I got the full wound set. I'm digging them. My jazz gig with them was great. I just replaced my old Garbos, and these are not quite as loud, but are more gut sounding, and about the same tension as the Garbos.
  10. I don't play in loud bands, and the Lil Bastard was at it's upper limits and well into distortion...
  11. I bought mine from Gollihur's in the US. They were cheaper than a lot of other strings.
  12. I just stuck a set of these on my bass to try out. I actually don't like slapping, but the reviews sounded pretty good. I got the full wound, synthetic set because I tend to destroy guts. I've only had them on three days and they've settled into tune already. Hmmm, that's a good start. I'm impressed... they sound like guts but with better focus and attack. Got a jazz gig on Friday, so the proof will be in the playing. Oh yeah, forgot to say they're soft, easy playing and very even volume and tone across all four strings.
  13. One of the secrets that make Greenboy cabs so good is the crossover. Sure they use the best drivers too, but the crossovers are not proprietary lightweights, they are custom built VERY heavy duty (like 400 watts RMS I believe), and the transition from one driver to another is totally seamless.
  14. Damn you guys for posting pics of your HandBox R-400s. I have got one on order from Lezsek but he's had a hold-up with them..... and I'm suffering! Patience is not my strong point.....
  15. A GK MB500 or MB800 will blow your sox off. My Greenboy Fearful 12/6 on its own with the MB800 was just magic. Huge tight lows, sweet mids and highs and all the grunt you could want. The only reason I sold the 12/6 was it weighed 18kg, not much, but my back is so bad I'm near a cripple, so changed to two 7kg Barefaced.
  16. You're not interested in a teacher? To be honest, that is the most obstructive statement ever. I bought an upright after many years of bass guitar. I taught myself. Due to my pig-headedness, I now have arthritic and deformed knuckles on my left hand. I eventually figured I needed a teacher, but the damage had been done. Don't worry about strings, use the money for lessons.
  17. MarkBass do a tiny 300w head, can't remember the name of it.
  18. Upright bass > GK MB800 (being replaced by HandBox R-400) > 2 x Barefaced Retro One10s.
  19. I currently use a GK MB800 with my One10s. For small gigs I just use one cab. The MB800 puts out 500w into an 8ohm load. My Barefaced handles it with aplomb. Obviously some discretion is advised, ie: keeping the signal clean. Just saying.
  20. The combination of the internal baffle arrangement and the custom built driver makes for incredible bottom end. I run two One10 cabs and I have to roll off the bass on my GK head.
  21. There are two basic requirements for an amp for DB. First is an input impedance of 1 megohm or higher. This is not critical if using a magnetic pickup, but it is for a piezo. Piezos need this resistance to function correctly. An amp with less impedance can be used, but generally will need a buffer preamp to present the piezo with the correct load. Amps such as GK, AI, Phil Jones all have a 1meg or higher impedance. This is moot if you use a magnetic pickup. Secondly, most DB players (not all) are preferring smaller speakers these days, with 12" being the largest.
  22. Just pulled the trigger on a R-400!
  23. Yay! I have contact with Leszek. It seems that maybe there is a problem with the email page of their website, and thanks to Wateroftyne's suggestion to email him direct, we're in business. July is holiday time in Poland, so production will resume in August.
  24. Hi Wateroftyne. Thanks for that, I've mailed him directly this time, rather than from the contacts page on the website. Here's hoping.
  25. Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm struggling to understand why a new product is not available. When I try to order one from the website, as soon as I add to cart it comes up with a box saying not available. Maybe they're not in full production yet?
